Im just in love with writing of this show, the kind of detailing writers had given to us is really impressive.
Honestly before this show i wasnt much aware abt world of casino, leave casino i didnt evn knw how to play cards. So at first it was hard for me to get into plot where they had put so many such card game & casino scenes. But slowly slowly i started to get into plot and understood plot. Now im quite fascinated by world of casino.
On surface it looks like normal revenge plot but when u starts watching episodes you will understands this is much more than what it looks on surface. This is journey of ML from an new law abiding attorney who has no or very lil knowledge abt this casino game to the boss of Casino game. The growth of ML from epi 1 to epi 12 is really impressive.
I had watched plenty of kdrama thrillers, and in my fav kdrama thrillers list there are 2 type of dramas 1. Where im mostly impressed by execution of overall show. 2. Where im mostly impressed by writing of the show.
This show comes under 2nd category along with some top rated thrillers like Flower of evil, mouse and some ocn thrillers. Its not like i didnt liked these above mentioned shows execution (acting, ph quality etc). its just writing of these shows impressed me more than execution.

Now im super excited. I had already watched tale of gumiho 1 when it was aired so i was excited to see So yeon in gumho2, but now u had told me that her role is grey which makes me super excited.
This kind of grey characters where they always swings betn positive to negative arena always excites me alot. In s1 also lee rang characters made me more intrigued than lee yeon character.

At a first i think they changed story bcz they hadnt casted any actor for logan lee role and when he entered show , all lead characters were already established plus writers must had taken ratings into consideration, they must have noticed that evilness of JDT & CSJ boosted their ratings alot. bcz of this they must had started to focus more on JDT & CSJ than logan lee & oh yoon hee.
Oh yoon hee & logan lee were casted as initial leads but they started getting less importance than JDT, CSJ & SSR.
Oh yoon hee still got her due as on paper she was still main lead more than JDT but logan lee just become support system of SSR.
Oh yoon hee was still required to move forward storyline as without her plot wouldnt have moved forward so she still got required importance but less than SSR & CSJ

This is similar to indian serials.... In india most of disney-star shows are available 12 hrs before telecast and now they are applying same thing to kdramas also

Yeah iknw that ha seok jin was approached for role of logan lee (the main ML). Later he rejected the role and they dropped character for some time and again introduced after 6-7 epi with park eun seok as logan lee. But initial logan lee was supposed to play ML from very first epi.

Its not like i like makjang genre only but if so yeon or any penthouse lead actress doing maljang show then i doesnt mind seeing that particular show as i like them but show should be as great as penthouse.
Right now im equally excited for so yeon new show nine tailed 2 & lee jiah's first lady (only if she is doing the show)
Hopefully this tym so yeon's role is not negative and she is getting equally powerful role as male leads (in nine tailed 2) afterall she is winner of daesang award

I think from the very first news eugene's character was supposed to play main lead character but later they changed main character to shim suryeon.
I remember initial article were stating "Penthouse' will tackle the story of a woman who is willing to give everything on the line to achieve her dream of being able to move into a high end penthouse in the Gangnam District. Along the way, shockingly, she slowly discovers herself turning into a monster. " So initially penthouse was all about oh yoon hee character

Plus many OCN thrillers and other thrillers with zero romance got 8.7+ ratings
Like guest got 8.7, and other thrillers like mouse, beyond evil, skycastle, penthouse, taxi driver etc got really good ratings (mostly 8.7+)
Evn hospital playlist also doesnt have much romance still got high ratings of 9.0
Then there are some Slice of life shows like navillers, our blues etc all got good ratings
Its just in insider ppl are not really able to understand nuances and detailing of plot.
I think there are slight chances that it will increase its ratings after it going off air.
