On High School Return of a Gangster May 30, 2024
Oh, finally it's peaceful here. It seems like the war has stopped. Now I can actually talk about the drama. I really liked the first two episodes. I started watching it for Bong Jaehyun because I liked him in twinkmelon and I didn't have any particular interest in ML guy, but he's a solid actor. Jaehyun's role is also quite mysterious, which I enjoyed. The content was engaging, there wasn't any moment where I felt like I should fast forward. So, this is a solid 8.5 for me right now. I'm quite excited for the upcoming episodes.

Note: I was holding myself back from saying anything about the drama because I thought people might attack me for liking this show. I was worried they might label me as a homophobe or someone who supports a rapist. I've had enough drama in my real life, so I didn't want more drama here, which is why I've been quiet for the last two days. Honestly, from an outsider's perspective, certain genre fans seem quite negative. They aren't interested in the drama, they aren't fans of it, they want to boycott it, but they still harass others by calling them homophobes. This is just a suggestion: please don't do that because people like me try to avoid the comment section, and you create a very negative impression of that particular genre's fans. Again it's just a suggestion, so please don't attack me.

Nothung much just putting a bunch of homophobic bitches in thier place
It's okay, I know not all BL fans are like that person, but from the many comments I read today, many from the same side seemed to be harassing some people by calling them homophobes. Yes, even a few people from the other side also attacked them, which was quite wrong, but as I can see, some BL fangirls started this phenomenon first. Some even exposed them, so I don't know whom to believe, but at least for now, those 4-5 BL fangirls seem more at fault.

Atleast none from other side came to me and said these BL fangirl bitches are harassing us. So i can clearly see who are more at fault.

Sorry to say but as many as comments i had read, BL fangirls seems more at fault. You yourself showed that by calling them bitches, when you could have politely said its just people are upset over removing BL genre etc.

You have read the novel do the 2 MLs stay together? I really cant stand Tongs actor Mek never enjoyed anything…
They didnt live together but ML again forces MC to sleep with him by blackmailing. There is big angst coming up, lpt of things happen like there was one shaman guy who tells ML that MC is alive somewhere then thwy went to find MC's og missing body etc. But in the end they get reunited.

Sorry but i think ur just biased & expecting so much from onscreen characters.i felt evrything for joe & ming…
If you hsve read novel then u will realise, how UP is portraying character is not even 10% of how og ML was. I dont get any gong ML vibes from him. He looks quite weak.

Most of ppl who are liking his acting have been adjusted to thai dramas and their type of acting. Like if you read comments then you will realise, most of them are just fujoshis who ships M|M relationshio. Im not against bl, coz i myself enjoy BLs, but fujoshis are blind, they cant see if acting/plot is good or not, as long as visuals are serving they will hype anything and everything. Thats how thai bls works.

Man you are so right! I dont know how people cannnot see this but joe and ming are seriously miscast. Maybe if…
In novel, joe was very manly and ML was somewhat feminine imean in terms of looks but again he was protagonist of 188 series so he was well built with good physique plus the way i imagined him was totally diff, i guess from thai industry i can see Luke ishikawa in that particular role, coming to Joe, in novel he was very manly and rough, thats why he was body double artist, Joe actor looks somewhat okay in that part but he cant really act or emotes well.

Coming to UP, i have seen him in lovely writer, in that show he was bottom, he looked good (altho acting was questionable), but here he doesnt fit character descriptiom at all, and he doesnt evn give required gong ML vibes.

And coming to the sol and tong actors, they both are horrible nd totally misfit.

Oh wow, I felt Joe's emotions really well. I'm having his feelings since the first ep.
Imo 80% thai actors cant act, most of them only know how to act cringe with shia, shia.

I have watched Thai, Taiwanese, korean & japanese bl. Out of all thai ones are worst. Korean, Japanese, taiwanese actors act 100 times better than them without making you feel cringe.

Plus i know how these actors get casted based on their social media popularity, not on talent. Like gmmtv ceo himself said how no. Of views nd social media following matters to them most compared to anything, which itself tells alot about their industry.

i think that you are biased because you are very invested since the novels mean a lot to you, because up and poom…
You guys are also biased toward thai actors bcz u love watching their BLs, thats why u guys cant see how poor acting is, but again i cant complain coz u guys are used to this kind of acting nd most of thai actors cant act nd thats fact. They only get casted based on popularity, not on talent. Like their CEO's has themselves said for them views on social media nd social media following matters the most.

Its my opinion, just bcz its diff you will tell me im biased?? Like how did u know its biased or not?? And on what basis?? You can defend ur favs based on ur opinion but no need to tell me if im biased or not. No need to go personal, just talk abt drama only.

Maybe you have only watched dramas with this kind of poor acting, so i can understand. Most of thai actors really dont know how to act, so thats understandable.

Title My Stand-In
This is such a poor adaptation of one of my favorite BL novel. The 188 novel series is one of my favorites and out of all 188 novels, this one, Beloved Enemy and Years of Intoxication are my top three. But after seeing the poor drama adaptation of one of my favorite novels, im at a loss for words.

First of all, both main leads are miscast. The actor playing Joe is somewhat fitting for the role but Ming is entirely miscast. The gong MLs in the 188 novel series are very different from what they are showing here. He doesnt fit the character description at all. Secondly, the acting is weak. Unfortunately neither of the actors can express emotions well, especially the actor playing Joe. In today's episode 4, which was based on one of my favorite arcs from the novel, i felt a flood of emotions while reading those chapters. But while watching the episode i was yawning. It was just plain, with no emotion, no angst, no anger, nothing. The necessary tension was missing.

Additionally, other major supporting characters are also miscast, like Tong and Sol. If you read the novel, you would have a vivid picture of every character but watching those characters on screen in the drama feels childish.

Thai producers should stop adapting works from other countries (novels/manhwa/manhua). Last time, i watched My Dear Gangster Oppa which was based on the well written manhwa Ideal Relationship and it was terrible. Everything in that drama was the worst.

Now Thai BL producers are making a remake of Addicted and i bet that one is also going to be really bad.

Honestly, i really wanted to watch and enjoy the series as it was based on one of my favorite novels but it is just bad, really bad.

Everyone in this show is morally ambiguous. Even if the marriage is consensual, Do Han is lying to AJ's parents,…
If he is lying to Ahjung's family, then what is Ahjung doing to her own family? Isnt she also doing the same? This is how contract marriage works. She and he both are full grown adults who made a contract marriage deal with their full consent. Obviously, they cant tell their family. As much as Dohan is lying to Ahjung's family, Ahjung is also doing the same with her own and also to Dohan's family. In a contract marriage, this is how things work. Plus, both are getting something out of it. Dohan is able to protect his sexuality while Ahjung is getting a large sum of money. She is not doing anything for charity.
If Dohan had lied to Ahjung, then you could have said he did a bad thing or he was selfish/trash.
Moreover, your entire analogy of 'Dohan not telling the marriage contract secret to Ahjung's family = abused/orphan doesnt give the right to control someone's life or lie to the family' doesnt make sense at all. Firstly, he is not controlling anyone's life. Ahjung herself agreed to the contract marriage and signed papers, so obviously he will ask her to follow all conditions for which she is also receiving money. That doesnt mean he is controlling her life.

And honestly speaking there is nothing wrong if they lie to their family or keep their marriage contract in sevret for their own sake, atleast they arent harming anyone. They are doing what they can do for their own selves. Ahjung is struggling actress and Dohan doesnt want to comeout of closet so both are doing everything for their own sake. Havent you seen family's lying to each other, not everyone in family have their own secrets & they dont reveal it for their own sake, as long as they arent harming anyone whats wrong in keeping it as secret only.
