can you recommend me your another top chinese dramas of 2021?
Absolutely. I'll give you a few options. LOL. They stuck out to me in different ways. I'm ordering them alphabetically, not by degree of likeness because I enjoyed them all.
- A Girl Like Me (I actually wrote a review about this that you can see on my profile.) Personally, I found the female character well developed and you could see how she evolved as the story progressed. I will say that before I watched this, I was hesitant as I'd heard mixed reviews. I really liked all the bonds between the characters--it wasn't just romance.
- Crush (ML is the SML here.) I found it super cute and it stuck with me.
- Moonlight (Same reason as above.)
- The Imperial Coroner - This one surprised me with just how much I actually liked it, because I had my doubts. The FL is quirky and awkward, but it works for her. I liked her character but I did sometimes find her naivety a bit irritating, but it's how she was written. The story was great, and the characters/actors were too.
- The Long Ballad (One of my top 3 for sure.) Everything about this was just beautiful to me. Characters/Acting. Dialogue. Story progression. I loved it all. Albeit, the way the war scenes switched to sort of graphic-esque was a bit odd. Though considering the budget it would have to take to portray the actual wars, plus they filmed during covid, etc. It make sense. Smart really.
Okay. Those were my top ones that aired in 2021. ^_^ However, I'm relatively new to dramaland in general, so everything on my completed watchlist are things that I watched this year with the exception of a few. And I've made a couple lists about dramas I've liked and dramas I've dropped.
If this continues in the same vein it's had thus far, it might just be one of my top three dramas of 2021. I'm really enjoying it and I find it well-balanced overall. The FL is smart and strong in a subtle way. She's not annoying at all. The ML and SML are both great. Hell, I think everyone's acting is wonderful and the clothes and styles are just beautiful. The only characters that irritate me are the sister of the FL and her mother, but that's the way they were written.
Just finished episode 14. I had started watching while it was airing, but put it on-hold until it finished before picking it back up. I didn't notice this when I was first watching, but it really stood out to me during the last two episodes. The subtitles were really, really, really bad. I watched it on WeTV and I've usually not had a problem before with subtitles there. But this show and Rebirth for you...it's like they're autogenerated or something. The same words in one episode change meaning frequently and then most of what they're saying makes no sense because the translations are inaccurate and the sentence structure are faulty. It was akin to watching it raw. That's how bad it was.
That being said, from what I understood by watching it raw (and I missed out on a lot of context), it was still alright. I like Rosy Zhao's make-up, hair, and costume here whereas it was too much in some of her other dramas.
I might put it on hold again, and hopefully better subtitles come out or another platform picks it up and redoes the translations.
