I found one of the hug scenes amusing . I swear GF left a 2 mm gap between his palm and DN's back. It felt a bit like an airhug lol. I bet he kept thinking when he debuted she wasn't even born yet.
Yeah Vicky's Acting is formidable and to think she is still in adolescence...I wonder what I was doing in my adolescent…
I had the exact same thought. I think in my adolescence I was........ watching too many dramas too. I guess some people need to sacrifice overachieving so they can fangirl instead lol.
One of the best slice of life dramas in the past year. Love the rhetorical exchanges. Am so in love with Vicky Chen - such an amazing actress can't imagine what else can challenge her when she hit her 20s! Am concurrently watch Eagle and Youngsters and golly she's good even at 14. The romance is pretty light and not disturbing at all. I think probably because Vicky chen is such an old soul and Roy has a subtle boyishness to him. Both their delivery of their roles made me feel like she is 25 and he is 35. The pacing was good and I found each episode riveting too. All hail Vicky Chen!
I'm starting to wonder why zhao lusi took up this drama. Did she want a nice relaxing in-between job? lol . If I were her I'd have died from boredom after having played quite a few female lead roles and the sort that monopolizes the screen.
Having said that I must say her make-up artist is doing a very good job. The makeup colours here makes her look quite different from her other dramas.
Sadly, I still find her acting abilities lacking or this role is not for her or a pitiful combination
I was thinking i'm the only one who has trouble being convinced that Changge is Changge and not Dili if you know what I mean. I do so want to like her acting and her character ( otherwise I have nothing to watch in this drama lol ) I hope she gets a role in the future which allows her more extreme facial expression, something that allows her to go really crazy and rabid. Currently its hard to notice the subtle switches in her expression. Another actress I find facing the same challenge is Gulinezar.
At the opening few scenes, I thought this would be like the Legend of the Demon Cat expanded.... then it reminded me of Doraemon ( bottomless pouch lol) .... then I got reminded of Beauty and the Beast....
For a 30 epi drama it feels like the leads got sweet on each other a bit fast....prefer a more drawn out romance. I'm not mentally prepared to watch them 'date' and be self-sacrificial for the next 20 + epis
completely off topic but which Lorelai are you named after? The mother, the daughter or the grandmother.
lol Emily's daughter, Rory's mom. This makes a great premise for one of those brain exercise questions like - If Lorelai's grandaughter is the mother of Lorelai and also my grandaughter, who am I?
Gosh...I find myself ffwd-ing scenes to just watch Zhou Lusi in this drama...even at the price of missing out on Leo Wu...I hope she gets more airtime !( or I'd be watching only a quarter of this drama at this rate ) lol
Li shimin might not be the bad guy. The original Manhua also hinted about the relationship between him & changge’s…
I wonder if the producers would dare to depart far from history where li shimin is a good guy. I think the only thing they can take liberty with are the characters that never factored in history so this would be quite a romance centric drama.
By right, if it had better writing and screenplay this drama could have been like those dramas you named. But…
I mean the drama as a production could be good. I'd be very impressed if one day a drama can successfully make cheating look like a positive thing and fully embraced by the audience. I guess an analogy of what I meant would be like war movies. I do think there are good war movies ( Schindlers List, Saving Private Ryan etc ) but I ( and almost everyone in the world) will never see war as good. It happens, someone made a movie out of it, and did a good job )
Cheating is bad, there can be no justification for it. But when it comes to drama like Hiraguo or love affairs…
By right, if it had better writing and screenplay this drama could have been like those dramas you named. But because this has only 16 episodes for the 1st season, it was impossible to develop affinity to the 3 couples + 3rd party ( i.e 9 pax lol ) alongside their kids, and their inlaws. Valid love for example focussed on 3 pax with a few side characters. Here, even the inlaws' extramarital threats were given airtime!
Forced myself through these recent 'bonding-with-future-mistress' episodes......the conversational content and what they do with each other is so incredibly dry I don't see how it could have led to anything. The actors/actresses too must have fallen asleep several times going through their script. Surely no matter how boring and lonely their characters were they could not have been such easy targets both ways? ( eg. Sa Hun had a lot more passion for Hye Ryung when they first dated compared with this current divorcee mistress . He's gonna wither away from boredom if he lives with her, he just doesn't realise it yet )
Writer Im Sung Han is known for putting things on a slow burn. And that’s frustrating. I find the calm pace…
I didn't see it beyond face value. But now that you mentioned it, it reminds me of the law of averages. Like how things average out - which then should have had a couple deal with shit for a very long time and then things making a turn for the best in the latter half.
I'm now curious what her themes are surrounding Apgujeong midnight sun and New Tales of Gisaeng
I have really switched up my thinking this week given how the last few episodes have played out, a announced second…
I get what you mean that they could have mashed it up a little to cover more grounds if its about the demise of a marriage. The current approach here is more like a case study on affair-led divorces. Maybe season 2 will serve as a guidebook on the best next steps if this happened to you when you are is your 30s/40s/50s!
Looking at the track record of the writer, her dramas are between 80 to 200 episodes long lol...so even 2 seasons would be way below her minimum. Had they not broken this up into seasons, the pacing of the drama would be just about right for her usual style. It sets the wrong expectations for the usual 16 episode dramas. With that i'm starting to doubt whether there's enough episodes even in season 2 to cover the divorce and new life as some of the characters esp the 40s and 50s women have held their marriage as centrifugal in their lives. I'd probably find it hard as a writer to create a story for the wife in her 50s where the viewers get to feel that 'justice has been served' . She's not been portrayed as having a secret dream stashed away that she can revisit, nor does she look like she likes men much.
If you recall the first episode during the talkshow there was a diatribe between a wife and a 3rd party who very earnestly delivered the other side of the story. It now looks like an attempt to set the theme of the drama which is why they dedicate airtime to make the mistresses look like ordinary girls that people can relate to, and the existing issues in the marriage prior to the 'cheating'. It doesn't look like a pre-produced drama so I'm surprised that with the comments from viewers the drama hasnt taken a different turn since everyone seems to dislike watching the romancing of the mistresses episodes. Perhaps the korean audience actually likes the direction the drama is taking.
