To Changge, making sure people are protected and not sacrificed unreasonably in wars and bringing peace and prosperity to Tang is more important than getting revenge at all cost and dragging people's lives just to satisfy her cravings of killing. She is not a monster. She is revenge hungry fugitive princess who witnesses how people suffers in life all through her journey broken by war and then commits herself to bringing prosperity and peace in the end. Getting revenge by killing a person is never an attribute of strength or courage or intelligence. It takes real strength to set aside your vengeance and work for better things in life. This isn't called stupidity. This is wisdom. Getting revenge won't bring back all the people she lost.

Every great characters has flaws and the growth comes from perfecting those flaws. Top students can also fail sometimes. There's no rule that toppers will be toppers all the time. Ups and downs happen. That is most realistic. They are princesses who are also very young. They are supposed to be immature and then mature through character development. And it's just not about them falling in love. It's about all their journeys and paths mainly.
