Very enjoyable if you can take it for what it is, an insane and barely believable hardcore action thriller. And yeh, Namkoong Min's performance here further establishes him as one of the very best, if not the best actor, that South Korea has to offer. It's difficult to rewire mannerisms to display the same emotional essence across characters, to become a "different person" across dramas rather than just the same person who happens to be swayed by a differently written role/archetype. While he does not utterly overhaul every pervasive idiosyncrasy, he does a damn good job of trying. Very impressive.
The queen does little for me here, but the plot continues to become more and more engaging. The handling of the plot from episodes 8-10 has really been exemplary and I'm a big fan of watching the competition (the "Taekhyeon"(?)) play out in divergent paths between the princes for the honour of Crown Prince. Their trials and journeys have been carrying the show in this middle phase.
I wonder if the final can find that extra 3.45% to beat World of the Married.
Almost certainly yes. It's tracking that way. Could see ~31%. It will also take the viewership record away from SKY Castle, which is 6.508 million. Expect 7+ for ep. 16.
That poor eunuch is getting teased to the heavens. The drama is starting to come into its own in episode 4 after a janky start. Also the only episode that actually pulls off its cheesy humour so far. Also, Park Ju Hyun was able to express much more of her range and vulnerability in episodes 3-4 than 1-2, and all of that improves her comic timing and affect, no longer merely a caricature. I also like that this drama is moving quickly.
so sorry i only put in 4 types it's hard to find the mbti 🥲
Ni + general high alert neuroticism and suspicion seems to grant much insight to the archetype.
Off the top of my head, the FL from Memorist came across as INTJ, as does the FL from Mother and The World of the Married. Lady Mishil (Queen Seondeok) is one of the best INTJ villains. (INTJ s are rare sure, but INTJ women are super rare.) Of course, there are many male INTJs in dramas... it's a popular archetype to cast into mastermind and villain roles and often in lead positions, as you pretty much said.
It's so sad that this drama has such a low viewership both in Korea and in foreign countries. It hardly makes…
it's not a disastrous rating for the opening weekend but it is concerning that the ep. 2 episode rated substantially lower than ep. 1.
Probably doesn't help that there's a growing monster it's competing against right now (though do they have different airing slots?) in Reborn Rich, and Alchemy of Souls Pt. 2 just started airing.
same thought, they prefer the serious saeguk to the comedic/webtoon, but Mr. Queen is still very successful. I…
Mr. Queen elicited some chuckles though. Not exactly the case so far with TBM for me. I'm still waiting for the next episodes, though.
The direction for comedic timing hasn't always been on point here for my money... and there is a kinda uncanny valley approach to the acting delivery which is halfway house between the source material and err... typical acting. I feel like if the production team and director want to embrace that more hammy and comic attitude and aesthetic then you gotta go more all in, like Alice in Borderland does with its "anime" acting delivery.
I feel like watching the whole thing again right now, from season 1 episode 1.
