I genuinely can't wrap my head around the low ratings this drama has been nothing short of phenomenal. The male…
Well check the rating stats breakdown. The current shown rating doesn't seem to be correctly calculated and that happens a lot in the early rating phases of dramas on MDL.
A lot of production errors in the last few episodes of this. Seems to be a habit for Cdramas to be plagued with blatant production issues when it comes to sound engineering - even in their best efforts.
I'd go as far as to say it's amusing how much better the acting performances are in this than even your decent idol dramas. Completely different levels of talent on display watching this compared to watching even the likes of Northward, never mind stuff like general cookie-cutter xianxia or wuxia like The Longest Promise or The Double. Absolutely different league.
A really good drama. Well acted and very thought provoking. I really liked Tu Song Yan as Li Hai Chao - he stole…
Not finished this yet but the chemistry between Jianjian and Ling Xiao is virtually non-existent and the pairing doesn't even make sense to me. Aside from the chemistry between them, Ling Xiao just inherently bothers me... a lot. It's weird because he's basically a good guy, so it's just one of those things.
You say you wanted more eps when they were at school, but I wanted more childhood episodes as well - there's only 2. I'm used to a few more in Korean sageuks (long form).
(BTW I watched Northward and The Tale of Rose recently which also go through the years and tell expansive stories much like Go Ahead. Liu Yifei has a habit of kicking ass with her choices of role - as much as I liked Meet Yourself i'd say The Tale of Rose is even better.)
The plot and the ML(Ling Xiao) are dragging this down hard for me even though it's a very good and well-paced drama.
*** edit:
A few episodes later and I now have to watch this drama in spite of the awkwardly growing main relationship. It's a blight on the show for me and now I'm in it for any other plot threads.
I was hoping the first arc would last much longer than that but teenage Jian Jian is just as entertaining despite actually being 29yo. Comes off better than in Northward anyway.

An extraordinary amount of crap goes down in eps 8-9 what on earth.
The final trial needed a more extreme 1-to-1 payback. We deserved to see it. Every detail. Every gruesome act. Every ounce of pain and anything that could possibly simulate the decades of pain of the affected families.
I'm on ep 14 and wow, Kenny Lin's character is creepy af
From the VERY beginning I said no no no no to this guy as Rose's potential partner and he became as devastatingly insufferable as expected. Awful character, neurotic and delusional.
Incredible how unlikeable, even detestable, many of the characters are from this. Good drama, but maddening and often frankly crude and caricaturally handled character flaws. It doesn't have that subtle nuance of, say, a Meet Yourself. It reminds me a bit of watching World of the Married, in which I enjoyed the drama a lot despite barely liking anyone.
If you guys had to guess, when would you say Zhao Lusi will make her acting return? It seems her recent life trials are not at all trivial. Could we be looking at 2+ years from now?
Very interesting drama - many non mains and their stories really hold the attention. This drama is not dependent on dominant mains to drive its stories and lessons (and that's a fortunate thing for what I already mentioned in a comment a few posts before.)
In short, this does have good depth and layers. Can recommend.
(Or more accurately, judgment is still a form of opinion. We're all always making judgments, deciding if something is good or bad for our tastes.)
