i really, really don't like talking about celebs' personal lives, but it's hard to avoid reading what was reported when they're in my face and naturally some form of opinions will always take shape because of these articles. revisiting his past official statements, first when he was going all out in courting her, he said they share many similarities. then when he was divorcing her, he said their personalities don't match lmao. in the same statement, he mentioned how he was in pain and how he wanted them to stop blaming each other. he was playing the victim in an official statement where everyone reads it - trying to elicit sympathy - all the while she stayed quiet and just let him divorce her without attacking him in return AT ALL. also, all of his dramas post-divorce sucked

man i love this drama. this was a pleasant watch and the workplace bullying feels so real. i'm reminded of my own traumatic workplace experiences. i wish i were as strong as ruo xin is, she's so amazing T-T she brought me to tears. qin lan is a great choice for this role, she's so poised all the time and her voice is so soothing, so professional. she always looks so put-together. i love her T^T
dylan looks fresh-faced in here. i prefer seeing him as a normal guy on screen. all his other roles in fantasy and historical dramas had him in too much make-up and intense eyeshadows. i know it's necessary. compared to those roles, he didn't have much room in this drama to flaunt his acting skills. this is still a great watch. the story is well-written.

it depends on the character of the emperor or the empress. powerful eunuchs have overridden some of history's meekest and weakest emperors. these eunuchs placed puppet emperors on the throne, so naturally these puppet emperors feared the very eunuchs who let them park their cushy asses on the dragon seat. these eunuchs wielded tremendous political powers in court and in the palace. this drama is fiction, so like most fiction, a certain amount of exaggeration is expected. however, there is a historical basis for this semi-depiction of xiao duo through many dynasties. all of these eunuchs usually met their downfall when a stronger, new emperor came into reign. you can read about wei zhong xian, zhao gao, zhang rang, where the emperor even called him "father".

The chemistry between him and the female lead was too flat for me. And there were too many unlikable characters, like the maidservant and the emperor. I tried, but couldn't go on. I'm now watching the Rational Life.

yeah.. i just can't feel any sizzles between him and yukee. and sadly i've only watched one other drama of his, which is meteor garden lmao so i can't say anything about his chemistry with his other female co-stars. i was only watching this because iqiyi was broadcasting it and i happened to see the banner.

there was that part when yin lou was dropping sedatives into the emperor's wine to avoid sleeping with him, but tong yun's behaviour alerted the emperor's red flags and gave yin lou away. i just don't understand why even have such a character at all.

i was incensed when she spent all of yin lou's money from her coffers on their return to the palace. she constantly dispensed "advice" that it's better to be the emperor's favourite than to be with an eunuch until she experienced herself first hand how psychotic the emperor is. she eats yin lou's food, she goes to "help" yin lou to extract info from cao to find out about duo's pills but she came back with totally wrong info. i get it's supposed to be "comedic" but it had the opposite effect on me. the character itself is unbearable enough, but her actress somehow manages to make it worse.
