i was incensed when she spent all of yin lou's money from her coffers on their return to the palace. she constantly dispensed "advice" that it's better to be the emperor's favourite than to be with an eunuch until she experienced herself first hand how psychotic the emperor is. she eats yin lou's food, she goes to "help" yin lou to extract info from cao to find out about duo's pills but she came back with totally wrong info. i get it's supposed to be "comedic" but it had the opposite effect on me. the character itself is unbearable enough, but her actress somehow manages to make it worse.

honestly it's also the makeup. her makeup artist applied the ongoing trend where you highlight under your eyes to achieve that enlarged, feminine, doe-like eyes. she's got big eyes already so it's weird ass to give her that look. it's not just her, the main guy was also given an unnatural shade of eyeshadow. i get that it's to make him look like a formidable "villain" in the first few eps, but we have since known he's not a bad guy so the shadow intensity should be toned down slightly. still not as bad as yukee's eyes, though.
I've seen stills of the female lead in other historical dramas. She looked really nice in them, so I don't know why her eyes look so extraordinarily huge in Unchained Love?! Her make-up and the way her hair was set also exaggerated the size of her eyeballs. I don't know, the overall goldfish look is pretty disturbing to me. I keep getting distracted all through up until ep 20+. Still, she delivers her role well. I like her acting. But I can't feel the chemistry between her and Xiao Dou. I'm frustrated because of this. Had to drop this for now because IDK... I feel so unconvinced by their love. I may come back to it after the whole thing has finished airing.
