I was writing a similar comment, when I saw yours. Those people tried to "look pretty" or "beautified themselves" because it was the only way they could hold onto their humanity in an enviournment which treated them worse than animals. The sentiment itself is fine, sometimes you need such small things to remind yourself that there is more to life than the shitfest you are currently going through.

I dont really remember the title (it's been over 20yrs since I read it), a first hand account of a woman in japanese concentration camp. She had this partly-finished bright red lipstick with her when she was arrested and somehow even when all her other stuff was confiscated, she managed to keep it with her. She was like that little bit of red was the only thing kept me alive, during the hellish 4 or so years. No matter how bad things got, even if she had to give up her food to other inmates so they didn't snitch/steal it, and even if she had to "volunteer" to pleasure the officers on duty so they didn't take it away, she was like I did everything I could to keep it with me, because it reminded that they was another life waiting for me. When they were finally rescue, she still had that little red lipstick with her.

The whole book was a fucking nightmare to read, filled with all kinds of abuse and torture and other hell, most of whom were 2nd/3rd hand accounts because the people in question didn't survive, and then this last chapter was like a rainbow after violent storm.

Well, fuck. I can understand the sentiment behind her words but sheesh!

Even if it was a joke/rumour, the fact that it could leak to the media and now 3 different agencies are scrambling to get the facts also proves my words. I dont think he is all that innocent either. The comic he has been drawing since high school is about a mullet wearing superhero and his nerdy sidekick who looks disturbingly similar to CGY. Plus, CGY said to PYY dad/grandpa that "this comic refers to my high school life, and also my heart (while we see the other drawing PYY drew for him placed in his phone case). PYY was also the first to sleep in CGY's bedroom because he didn't wanna deal the voices (he could have slept in another room or gone to his friend's house). Hell, he could have used the door like a normal person as CGY dad said. He didn't specifically HAVE to climb in through the window of a guy he supposedly hates.

Grandfather was kinda like PYY when he was young. He saw the murderer's pot had grown a heart after years of guilty confessions, so he directly confronted the murderer and told him to confess, resulting in "getting killed". The general term for un/related older women (aunty) is A-yi (soz for the pinyin) and Yuemu (岳母) specifically refers to mother-in-law or rather WIFE'S MOTHER in an informal way.
