I'm starting to get bored after ep. 9-10... don't know.... first 5 episodes were masterpiece, but now I'm stuck...…
I think ep 10 and 11 felt kinda filler fluff (but by this point I was invested) but it gets back on its feet on episode 12 with them switching again.

Is it me or He Luoluo (Lu Xiao) and Dai Luwa (Ke Le) should have been the second couple because the plotline of Qianya and Xu Nian felt more like main couple material

Nonetheless, really good drama - 8.1 is such a low rating for it. I'd put it as an 8.3 - 8.4 at the very least.

The thing which gets me about this drama is just how much free time these people seem to have 😂. Don’t get…
Both can be explained.

I used to write for an online magazine/column as well and we're mostly on the field. We are evaluated not by our presence in the office (we're mainly only there to clock in and clock out) but by the amount of scoops/stories/articles we can put out and the amounts of clicks/advertising revenue/readers those articles get. Seeing Shengsheng's own editor is her bestfriend, and their editor in chief doesn't micromanage either, she can just easily say she's out getting stories (and in that environment, it's kind of already understood).

Another thing easily overlooked is Shengsheng just turned in a Jiang Yi interview to her editor which scores her major brownie points as Jiang Yi is easily one of the hardest celebs to interview - even big publications apparently can't book him. So I assume that plays a huge part as well why they're so lax with her recently.

Meanwhile Jiang Yi is actually busy - he films variety shows, films commercials, does photoshoots, is preparing for an album EVEN WHILE HE SAYS HE IS SICK. This is considered a big deal as we are told in episode 2 that he never gets sick (because he's a healthcare enthusiast) so I can assume they also loosened out his schedule due to his illness - even so, he's still quite busy.

Is it as good as the bra scene in Secret Garden? That’s the body swap trope gold standard IMO. The whole drama…
I think Zhang Xincheng does a better fangirl than Hyun Bin (who was an Oska fangirl in Secret Garden) - I think Zhang Xincheng seems to understand the nuances of fangirls more. Hyun Bin at times also made the body swap seem caricature-ish (especially the munja-wasshong part because FL never did that when she was in her body lmao)

Ironically, the funniest scene in the drama isn't your classic body trope moment but happens when they're already deep into the body swap (when Shengsheng, in Jiang Yi's body, gets so hungry and sees his treasured walnuts thinking they were snacks - the acting in this part is 100% and very memorable). Also I really liked Zhang Xincheng's performance because he shows a very deep understanding of the female lead's character - it's very faithful, not your typical boy acting like a girl for funsies.

I took me four days to reach ep 3 because I was lazy watching. I think episode 4 is when it gets really fun though (because I know many people started loving it on episode 3 because of the bra scene)
On The Day of Becoming You Jun 22, 2021
I had really low expectations because Asian dramas tend to fuck up the body swap trope or the skill level of the actors doing the body swap aren't on par with each other (in the sense that one actor outperforms the other). I also wasn't really looking forward to this because Liang Jie's acting usually irks me for some reason I cannot really put my finger on.

BUT THIS. BUT THIS.

THIS DRAMA IS A MASTERPIECE OMG.

C-Drama romcoms usually TRY to be funny but it somehow falls flat - yet is usually saved by the pretty visuals and catchy OST. But The Day of Becoming You is such a blast. I haven't had this much fun watching a comedy drama since Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and 18 Again. Also I normally feel Liang Jie is best suited with Xing Zhaolin but this drama instantly changed my mind. Her chemistry with Zhang Xincheng is ON FIRE and they're amazing foils to each other in the acting department, like satisfying watching two people with the same wavelength playing ping-pong - they NEVER drop the ball.

But the biggest gem of this show is truly none other than Zhang Xincheng who completely steals this drama. I know people are anticipating his upcoming portrayal as Fei Du the most since Modu is a pretty high profile project but as someone who has since him in three dramas before (Huckleberry Friends, Go Ahead and Skate into Love), I can easily say The Day of Becoming You is his most ICONIC acting performance to date. He has always been a great actor, but here he shows something I think a lot of young Chinese actors (even the good ones) lack - versatility. It's easy to be an intense dramatic actor but comedy is such a tough balancing act without making it look slapstick, but he completely nails it here.

Honestly he deserves an acting award for the walnut scene alone (the opera song blaring as the background music really complemented his top-notch acting in that scene as well). And when people say Zhang Xincheng plays Shengsheng better than Liang Jie herself - they aren't lying. As a matter of fact, I think Liang Jie plays Jiang Yi better than Shengsheng (Liang Jie's cool smirks and pissed off facial expressions were so ON POINT - she really feels like Jiang Yi) but Zhang Xincheng plays both Jiang Yi and Shengsheng amazingly. Somehow I get kinda annoyed when Liang Jie plays Shengsheng (as in, I find her character kind of annoying) but Zhang Xincheng does an amazing job in making Shengsheng this lovable perky girl despite her spoiled brat tendencies.

Anyway, this drama is definitely a must-watch. You're missing a lot if you don't start it now. I just hope they can sustain this momentum till the end.

"What if a villain falls in love with the female lead and she loves him back"

Fret not because this trope is brought to life by this drama.

I loved the novel and I feel the lead actors are kind of miscast. I feel better casting for the leads would have made this show a massive hit.

Sheldon is constantly called out for his tendency to be insensitive and selfish by the other characters, which isn't the case with Lu Jing - in fact here's it's quite the opposite, and he's presented as "cute" for being like that.

I don't mind flawed characters but present them as flawed and develop them, don't make it a glorified personality trait.

It always annoys me whenever the drama sugarcoats him being such a terrible friend because ~he does it for the female lead~

Like I rarely see him hang out with his friends because he genuinely wants to spend time with them out of value for their relationship? It is always because of some selfish reason he has (he wants to eat and needs someone to accompany him - the durian eating challenge or the crawfish scene, he needs a teammate for the competition, using his friends to run petty errands for him).

It's funny once or twice but when it happens throughout the drama, it means that is actually his personality trait. I think writer is trying to write him off as this "savage to friends" sort of character but even savage types need to have a selfless/warm side to balance it out. ML is just plain selfish (like that time he manipulated his friend into not buying the orange scarf his friend wanted to gift his mom just so he can give it to FL).

The ML character himself has an obsessive stalker vibe but he gets a pass because he is handsome and smart.

I don't know why people keep saying the lead girl is cringe...isn't that the point of her character in the story? It seems to fly over a lot of people's heads that this drama is making fun of the whole unhealthy obsession a lot of fangirls have - they're not glorifying it, this is satire. If her character annoys you then the drama achieved its goal - you are NOT supposed to find Ke Le adorable, you're supposed to find her disturbed. If the whole idea of Y4 or Love Boys appeals to you (hello Youtube comment section of this drama) then you are the exact demographic this drama is making fun of.

Real Lu Xiao is the dose of cold water always there to remind Ke Le that virtual Lu Xiao is FAKE AND DOES NOT EXIST. Real Lu Xiao is a different person. This is also the reason why we have the second couple (who are a foil to the main couple) where everything happens virtually but is REAL because the only thing virtual about their situation is the setting - the one Qian Ya meets in Love Boys is the REAL Xu Nian so their situation is the exact opposite of Ke Le and Lu Xiao's.

This drama is so underrated considering how brilliant the story and social commentary is under the guise of an idol drama, plus all the cast ensemble are great actors. Must-watch.

I think the rating is too high for the story.

ML is too bratty (he always takes advantage of his friends and the people around him, it's not cute, but he gets a pass just because he's a "handsome genius gamer extraordinaire"?) and FL seems like a superficial girl. The relationship that they ease into is also very shallow. The stakes were just too low for both of them. It's basically just pretty female celeb and handsome campus genius fall in love. The only interesting part for me was when they didn't know each other's identities yet but it goes downhill from the part he figures out it's his celeb crush he's playing with in the game.

Just a shallow drama if you want a story with no stakes and you wanna kill time in fluffyland, but your time is better wasted on a fluff romance that actually has likable leads.
