Why is the rating so low? This gotta be 8.5 to 8.8 range at least? Easily this year's most logical, well-acted, and most entertaining Chinese romantic comedy so far.
I'm hoping that eventually all of the BTS clips will have English subtitles. I can't tell if Steven and LJ's interactions…
I think they have a pretty strong professional relationship, never seen Liang Jie being this level of precise with her acting. A lot of clips of her and Steven are them really dissecting the script with the director, it's interesting.
What really gets to me is the kissing. I've seen dramas of both Steven and Liang Jie, actually seen Liang Jie kiss Xing Zhaolin over a hundred times already lmao. Saw Steven kissing a lot of his FLs too. But the kisses between Steven and Liang Jie here are just so romantic! I love rewatching the kissing scenes just to envy them lmao. Brilliant acting from both of them during the kisses, it's very relaxed, spontaneous, and full of passion.
It's also insane to me that they did a recent photoshoot with Harper's Bazaar China (it was shot last week, if I remember correctly) and their chemistry nowadays is even stronger than it was in the drama....like how? Considering they finished filming this drama last year, how can they have more chemistry so many months after not working with each other? I love this pairing, hope we can see them work together again in another good story. I do think they bring out the best of each other.
what do you mean by "they had to go that route to appease government censors"??
Chinese censorship no longer allows stories of switching bodies/souls - this came after dramas about modern female protagonists dying and switching their souls with a girl from the past became very popular. Technically, it is more about the concept of them changing "historical events", but in effect this covered the idea of body swap tropes. In short, this drama would be never be cleared for airing if the body swap was a real part of the drama (not a figment of Female Lead's novel).
Rewatching the ending and I realized we are still lucky the love story of the leads happened in real life rather than it being 100% fictional or just a product of a dream sequence. In the ending of other dramas, the FL only met ML in the novel / in her dreams and they're yet to even meet in real life at all. At least here, the main couple actually were a couple in real life and the novel was inspired by their actual love story.
Understanding the censorship right now just made me realize we could've gotten a worse ending and the ending we got was already very lucky.
I think out of all the dramas Liang Jie has released so far these 2 months - her chemistry with ZXC is the best.…
As someone who has seen all her dramas and thought she only has chemistry with Xing Zhaolin (I didn't even like her acting, just so happened a lot of the dramas I watched had her in it), this one changed my mind! I now think Zhang Xincheng is definitely her top CP in terms of chemistry in dramas.
Honestly liked the ending of the main couple (I found it satisfying and realistic, I also think their chemistry peaked at the latter part of the drama) but I feel kind of robbed knowing that some of the side plots we enjoyed probably aren't part of their real world (like Shengsheng being friends with Leyi or the Jiashu-Tonghua backstory probably being fiction). Throughout the drama, I kept wondering why there was so much "breaking the 4th wall moments" in the show, moreso than your regular cdrama (like Shengsheng always quipping why they feel like they're in a Korean drama or all those funny puns about Mama Fans or the random kabedons), so knowing that the real Shengsheng was really writing a story was also like a eureka moment, in a way.
Basically I am really happy our main couple had a happy ending (which they 100% deserve) but I am also sad that a lot of the things we were shown (and truly enjoyed) were most likely not real. Even so, it is not enough to ruin the drama for me because the show had always hinged on the chemistry and build up of the main couple - it suddenly made sense why this show did not really have a second/third side plot or side couple fully brewing, it was really done on purpose to spare us the pain lmao.
Anyway, amazing story, it never dragged and the acting was brilliant! Sets the bar high for Chinese rom-coms this year. The ending is a weird plot twist but does not dampen the quality of the drama because of how strong the story set the foundation for our main couple. Very sweet and happy ending for all of us, also leaves a nice afterthought on how healthy adult relationships should be like despite conflicts and obstacles.
Big praise to both Steven Zhang and Liang Jie as they definitely carried through this show with their amazing acting. Also the production team are amazing for inserting those hilarious sound effects and coming up with such a lovely OST for this drama. I was expecting to hate it at some point because the writer was the one who did Go Ahead, but the ending he gave us was fitting and unlike Go Ahead, this one never dragged for me. Most importantly, a lot of the dialogues in the drama were so memorable! This drama easily ends as an 8.5 out of 10 for me.
I haven't had much luck with modern chinese dramas but this one looks promising. I have high hopes.
A current airing modernC-Drama is getting a lot of raves in China right now, the title is The Day of Becoming You
The acting for that is so much better than this drama, it's just that this is based on a popular novel so there's already a fandom waiting for this and a lot of the main cast are liuliangs (idols with big fandoms)

What kind of romance trope would you describe this drama as: enemies to lovers, slow-burn?
Enemies to friends, then friends to lovers. Not really slow burn as the attraction builds up fast except they're quite dense or prideful to acknowledge it.
neither, they kinda understand each other within first body swap which ep5, both know who they love but no confession…
I do think it is still enemies to lovers as Jiang Yi hates her a lot until the latter part of the body swap. Jiang Yi even said after switching back they should never meet each other again. They also fight a lot even when they switched back. I'd say things get better around ep 6/7 in terms of their relationship, but as friends.
Romance-wise, it's slowly coming up but both of them have different love interests (for now). It's slowly being shown though that they are beginning to get attracted to each other.
Both can be explained.I used to write for an online magazine/column as well and we're mostly on the field. We…
You'd be surprised how the concept of being "busy" is overstated in the entertainment industry - especially with celebs. (example - if they were truly super busy, why and how do you think a lot of them find time to date lmao). Jiang Yi is also pretty established already, and when you are at that level, there's also more power to cancel/postpone/reschedule stuff.
I kinda dabbled in both industries so I don't feel as flustered (I feel I've seen dramas who depicted it as worse). Also in episode 6/7 you see Shengsheng working even at home - like I said, the Jiang Yi article wasn't the only thing she did. They also make articles about 热搜 (don't really know how to explain this in English) of celebrities, and those pop out all the time so they never run out of content to write. It's just that time to time they do write scoops.
Also my previous workplace was super flexible when it came to knocking out of the office as long as you always meet your deliverables and my friends who work similar have the same experience too. Of course it's not 100% realistic (most of the days at the office are boring, and it's not that catty between different teams lmao - it's more passive aggressive than catty) .
In terms of drama realism, I'd nitpick other aspects of the drama than their working schedule. For example - the fact that the Little Galaxy members are single is funny. Or the fact that a group as massive as Little Galaxy allows fans to go up with them on stage. The fact they actually live together 7 years after debuting is super unrealistic too.
Another unrealistic thing for me is the editor in chief and Tong Hua greenlighting all those article proposals which are "legally dangerous" (involving stalking or lying to get the scoop) because I don't know any sane editor approving that in real life even with the potential ad revenue. As a supervisor, it's your job to axe any crazy ideas presented by your staff lmao.
Is it like I married an anti fan kdrama???... I haven't watched this drama but from looking at the description…
Nope, I just finished watchin I Married an Anti-fan and they're nowhere similar except for the job descriptions. For one, Ho-Joon is a solo artist while Jiang Yi is part of a boygroup. Also Geunyoung works for a fashion magazine (and she isn't into idols at all) while Shengsheng is a idol fangirl (she stans the frenemy of the male lead, not the male lead) working as an entertainment reporter.
