That ending was perfect. I couldn't think of any ending better than it. I was completely sympathizing with JBR,…
I think You misunderstood some things in this show.
It was proven later on the drama, maybe he inherited the gene but from the beginning, he had no intention to kill people. He also knew that he was different from ordinary humans so he decided to pretend to be a good boy and copied Yo Han's behavior who was the most beloved child at that time in the school, so he could become a 'normal' person with friends and everything. But O.Z. showed up much more directly than before, and pushed him to be a killer with different techniques because the other test subjects failed to kill people, so the main thesis of the organisation would have turned out to be bs, which means no aid to the psycho-bill. It was the moment when the cult allowed the access to the data of the boxer who killed JBR's family. That was the turning point for him, and because of the inherited predator gene, he became a serial killer, and the government helped him from the shadows to practice his murderous acts. With these decisions they could promote their bill. It was all about media attention and marketing which makes JBR's story even more tragic. So, when you mention that: 'the show try to prove that a serial killer's offspring will most likely become a killer with just SOME push when it isn't hereditary at all.' It is not true at all If you think deeper about the story. The term which you used (SOME) makes me worried. What type of push would be enough?
I also agree with you, to gain sense of guilt doesn't excuse anything what he did. I wanted him to be punished (or killed) for his crimes from ep 2, but I can see the back stuff and it makes his character arc tragic. I pity him because he was abandoned from the beginning of his life (especially his families) and there was nobody who stopped this insanity around him because of some vote to a bill which was wrong all the time. And nobody took him to a psychologist or psychotherapist who should have helped him because of some lunatic fanatics. I didn't mention how he was held by his foster parents. He was just a pitiful lab-mice from the start who was a tool of another psychopath who killed a lot of people by him. But He was a cold-bloodied murderer who got his punishment in the end. I think that was the fitting ending for him.
Its a quite heavy drama where everything is up to you. A psycho-thriller can go to a very gray and dark area with the morality, especially with the main characters. The drama just show what would happen if... But you should answer that question by yourself.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
Thank you! :D ^^ I hope It will be helpful for the future viewers. I did a request on another site and they accepted it, so there is another database where it is finally sci-fi. XD https://snitt.hu/filmek/mauseu
I was hoping they would go for the route of trying to prove the father serial killer (head hunter) wrong by showing…
(Just about the comparison) I don't get why a lot of people compare 'Beyond evil' to 'Mouse'. 'Beyond evil' is more like a crime show with psychological thriller elements and 'Mouse' is a psycho-thriller with regular crime show elements. A regular crime drama focuses on the war of the good and evil where one of the side will win. But a psycho-thriller can go to a very gray and dark area with the morality too ,especially with the main characters. And, to understand the morality of the show, you need to adapt the mindset and logic of the world of the drama.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
Very true! Every viewer should experience it by themselves. Yes, especially social media marketing.
Thank you very much! I've read yours too and I liked it, especially the analysis section! Make connection between our dark hero and that ancient universal law (Hubris-Atis-Nemesis-Tisis) was a very good and interesting choice. I've never seen his journey like that before you mentioned in your review.
About OZ: It was not just an organization, but a cult led by a very dangerous psychopath who led a grieving brother by the noise who's idea was the beginning of a very dark dystopia. Maybe she met with her fate but there was an even more dangerous psycho. It's a a wicked circle.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
I see! I'm glad to find this drama in late may even I know who is whom from ep. 2 (a very telling little moment). I think that would've been awful if I find out that way.
Probably! Wrong marketing decisions also can harm the experience not just the errors of the dramas.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
Maybe They worried too much about the ratings because of the genre. As you said It is not for everybody even if the production has an interesting story, complex characters and wonderful cast. Everything led to this miscommunication about the sci-fi elements. The marketing strategy was a complete mess. Soompi also spoiled the first six episodes' twist before the first episode, and they didn't do anything. (https://www.soompi.com/article/1456753wpp/mouse-unveils-unsettling-sneak-peek-of-kim-kang-hoon-as-younger-lee-seung-gi) What about the marketing of the plot twist and the 5 special episodes (except The last and The predator)... I don't get this! I try to understand and barely can but... And the Baeksang... Uhhhh I have a headache. lol It was painful! Even if I start the show after the last episode came out.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
Yes. The sci-fi elements can be confusing and unbelievable for viewers who start it as just a "regular" psycho-thriller. It is huge negative point to the marketing strategy but not the only.
I think One of the most problematic part of the drama is to not been marked it as a Sci-Fi.
On Viki (which is the main foreign broadcaster of the drama) and another streaming platforms (for example: iQiyi, VIU and tving) its genres are just Thriller, Suspense and Drama and nowhere tagged as sci-fi. I think it was later added to the genres on Wiki and here to the tags not from the beginning. Yes, it should have been in the first page.
The serial killer is the son. Which episode did you drop the show?
As I said, the main point was not who the killer because it was in the second episode. Also the writer told the series isn't about who the serial killer.
The serial killer is the son. Which episode did you drop the show?
Not the same, because there were details which tell you who is the killer. I mention something in my review about a checkpoint. If you want to know who is the sk, check out that. There is something little but very telling what can do or not do a psycho for real.
I noticed the details when I watched the series (different body-shape, different gate, not matching DNA etc.). I just mentioned what I read in the fb group as plot errors. Not my problems.
The serial killer is the son. Which episode did you drop the show?
You shouldn't have watch the movie first, because it is just a chronological order of the main events of the series first 14 episodes. Just try! It's worth it!
The serial killer is the son. Which episode did you drop the show?
You should check out the whole series. In the first six episodes, if you pay attention to the dialogues, gestures, facial expressions, you can find out so much things. The series main question, for real, is not who is the serial killer.
Exactly! If You pay enough attention, you can find out, in the first 6 episodes, there is third-party involvement all the time and the serial killer doesn't know about it. Evidences and important documents have gone here and there, interesting news releases, the whole broadcast situation and so on. XY is Daniel Lee. Yes, You can't just watch a psycho-thriller. You have to use your brain through the whole story. If you don't have to, it also means something. Maybe, in some case which I saw, the problem was LSG and the lower expectation of the story because of his regular character-type choices. You know: a darker version of "good and friendly, familiar guy want to catch the bad guy and that's it". But it turns out it's not the case and that made so much confusion. Perhaps the synopsis or the trailer were too average which leads to the inattention. Who knows!
