Subjective matters and I disagree 100% with your comment. There are so many GREAT Chinese dramas 2025. And one of them is Legend of The Female General. It was not boring like you said. This drama is very exciting from beginning until the end. All fighting scenes and war scenes in this drama are very excellent. They are fast, accurate, and deadly.

Another examples of great 2025 Chinese dramas = The Prisoner of Beauty, Fated Hearts, The Glory, Coroner's Diary, etc.

I don't think so. VOA is a slow paced one who had different style of directing and storytelling. Actually, VOA had both fast pace and slow pace depends on the moments/stories they want to tell. For example Tiemo arc feel more slower than Huben arc. And some ppl said Tiemo arc felt so dragging and it was not as exciting as Huben arc (eps 1 -20). Huben arc was more exciting and intense + fast paced.

In the opposites, other historical revenge dramas with romance have faster paced with more mix genres in the storytelling.

Costume/period romance dramas have A LOT OF KISSING SCENES! Have you watched many Chinese dramas? There are so many passionate kissing scenes in Costume dramas. For example The Prisoner of Beauty, Love & Redemption, Story of Kunning Palace, Who Rules The World, Fated Hearts, Kill Me Love Me, The King's Woman, Eternal Love, Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, Moonlit Reunion, Flourished Peony, When Destiny Brings The Demon, Till The End of The Moon, Love of The Divine Tree, Moonlight Mystique, Feud, etc many more. Even Neo Hou's latest xianxia drama Love in The Clouds also had great kissing scenes!

Also, do you know what MOST PEOPLE expect from ROMANCE dramas? Of course physical intimacy and love scenes (including kissing scenes). It's like the peak of how the couple express their love to each other. Stop saying we only need chemistry etc etc. No! Chemistry is important but viewers also yearn for physical gestures and love scenes from ROMANCE dramas. We don't talk about thriller dramas here!

Many Chinese costume dramas have hot and passionate kissing scenes. Go watch The Prisoner of Beauty, Story of Kunning Palace, Moonlit Reunion, Kill Me Love Me, etc. They had many hot and passionate kissing scenes there! Short costume dramas even had wilder kissing scenes.

MOGA is period costume drama and they had 1-2 kissing scenes even though the FL is still below 20 age. So, there is still a chance that this drama (Key of the Phoenix Heart) also has kissing scenes between Neo Hou and Ai Mi. She is 18 years old like Ancy Deng in MOGA.

You wanna talk about my other comment? Fine! I said that I enjoy VOA from beginning until ep 20. After that, the show went downhill with slow and boring scenes + unsatisfying unclear results. THE FACT is that I am NOT the only one who find this show is slow and boring, especially after ep 20. You can keep scrolling up & down. Some OTHER people said the same things like me as well.

You also rated high some of the shows that I mentioned. The other dramas in your list are fantasy dramas. And those fantasy dramas actors actresses are also idol actors who had the same range of acting like many actors actresses in costume dramas that I mentioned before. So? They are not superior from anyone. Even the production quality of your fave dramas are still in the same pool with many dramas that I mentioned. Because they are all high budget dramas.

I suggested you to watch Love Like The Galaxy, Story of Kunning Palace, and Fated Hearts if you haven't watched them yet. I didn't see those three dramas in your watching list. Don't comment or judge anything before you watch them by yourself.

I am sorry but I disagree to the max. Those dramas that GeeGee mentioned are not average. They are GREAT dramas and many people love them. They have exciting plots and storytelling, great cinematography, grand sets locations and costumes, excellent fighting scenes and war scenes, etc. Who said they had poor acting? All of the actors and actresses in those dramas are very good. The massive MDL ratings prove it. Great costume dramas like Love Like The Galaxy, Story of Kunning Palace, The Double, Blossom, The Prisoner of Beauty, Fated Hearts, A Dream Within A Dream, Legend of The Female General, Coroner's Diary, Wonderland of Love, My Journey to You, Legend of Zang Hai, etc always have high rating between 8.5-9.0. High MDL ratings come from many people who enjoy and love those dramas.

I agree (again) with you 100%. Huben arc is more interesting than Tiemo arc. The first half of VOA is really good. They also have balance pacing in this arc, both fast (+ intense) and slow (in some points). But for Tiemo, it keeps slowing down until the end.

"It should be 9.0 at least". Dude, rating system in MDL is all about other people reviews and ratings. So it's not talking about YOU ALONE. And for some ppl who find this drama is too slow will not give rating 9-10 for sure.

If you found earlier eps pacing are already slow, then this drama is not for you. They will keep slowing down especially after ep 20. Tiemo arc (ep 21-28) is a drag to me with unsatisfying results in the end.

For me, the best part of this drama is the first half, which is earlier episodes until middle episodes. This drama style is indeed slow in nature. Just like art movies. But they have some intense moments like fighting scenes and escape plan arc in the first half of this drama. Vendetta of An had similar directing style with The Longest Day in Chang'an. It's not for everyone's cup tea. Slow and intense are their style.

I still want romance because I love romance 🥲 it's too bad that Xu Lu was his biological sister.

Well, this drama is not the only one. Netflix already had many on going Chinese dramas before Vendetta of An. They were also broadcasted at the same time with Chinese original platforms like Youku and Tencent. For example Love in The Clouds, Perfect Match, The Prisoner of Beauty, Legend of The Female General, The Princess Gambit, Kill Me Love Me, Love & Crown, Shine on Me, The First Frost, Our Generation, Love Game of Eastern Fantasy, When Destiny Brings The Demon, etc many more

But LACK of actions made the scenes are slower and boring. They had chit chat with enemy for days before taking actions. Sometimes they were just talking about the past while planning something else.

I think this drama was great in the first half. Everything was so intense. But after they killed Yan Feng San, everything become slow and slower. I watched until ep 22, and there are too many dialogues and boring scenes.
