The rating dropped because of ending. I am definitely understand coz for some ppl, ending is very crucial same like the plot itself. its like the pay off of their time. I actually never mind the sad ending as long as its make sense and the realistic one for story. Such as Mouse, 49 days, Hi Bye Mama, and etc.

It means people still have much interest in romance genre.
However, romance stories are still include one of the top list from drama category and most people's favorite genre besides actions, thriller mystery, and slice of life.
Yes the actors should step out from their comfort zone sometimes. But please dont blame See You Again failure to the romance genre as general. Every script has DIFFERENT QUALITY.

About kdramas, because you mentioned it below....Korean dramas are the best example for ideal acting quality packages (acting, appearances, gestures, performances, expressions, and VOICE) coz all korean actors and actresses always use their own voice in on-set recording.
Korean only use dubbing to add deeper effects for other elements (nature sounds, high heels sounds, object sounds, etc) coz they are more focusing in recording the actors dialogues. They also use dubbing for certain conditions like there is some noises that cant be tolerated in the location. But overall korean dramas always use the actors own voices in the set. Korean also have dialects but its not as complicated like China had. Thats why its easier for korean and other countries (Japan, Western, etc) to use their own voice for shows. Coz mandarin needs the right tones to make it understable. Plus you need standard national mandarin without accent. Its very perfect and clean.
At least, some chinese dramas already used the actors actresses own voices + on-set recording like Joy of Life, The Longest Day in Chang An, Story of Minglan, Serenade of Peaceful & Joy, The Rise of Phoenixes, and more. Plus, there is many contemporary/modern chinese dramas who already used actors actresses own voices.
