Soo Chul spent half the season saying he couldn't tell DD the truth about her mother because it would traumatize her. But he has no problem traumatizing her by ripping her away from her new family? Because he thinks she's too young at 27 to make her own decisions? She's not trying to marry an axe murderer! I think he doesn't want to have to admit that her mother came back for her after a few years (and a car accident) and that he kept her mom out of her life for 22 years out of spite. Whenever I want to get really mad at Anna Kim, I remember that she realized her mistake pretty early and tried to come back. What she did was really wrong and I don't think she should be given a free pass on it. But it should have been addressed two decades ago. This whole toxic situation going on right now is mostly because of Soo Chul.
I haven't read the manga. I just watched the first two episodes and I was a bit WTF? Your review cleared up a lot of my concerns so I think I'll keep watching. Thanks!
There are two positive things to mention about this show. First, the premise is interesting and I wouldn't mind seeing a better done version. Second, the two leads really did more with less. Despite a horrendous script, they managed to create some chemistry. They are both young and good-looking, and with more experience I think they'll have successful careers. Especially Cai Zhong Liang, he suits the tsundere type quite well. I'd watch something else with him in it.
That said, this is a really weird and badly done drama. It's super low budget, but that doesn't bother me too much if the story is good. The script is a train wreck. The dialogue was just bizarre. It even made the grandma seem creepy. No one's motivations were revealed. Tons of loose ends and plot holes. Just skip this.
