I was looking at the cast list and saw that we haven't seen two actors from the support cast, Kim Seo An and Ji Seung Hyun, did they appear somewhere and I missed them? Does anyone have any idea about the roles they will play?
I am particularly interested in knowing what role actor Ji Seung Hyun might play, because he has played pivotal roles in some of his previous dramas, esp those as the antagonist.

I can see some similarities but its not a re-telling by any stretch.Gil Chae, Jang Hyun, Yeon Jun and Eun Ae have…
I just hope they continue to differ, we have so much material already besides the love triangles/quadrilaterals/pentagons for god sake, I don't want them overlook that potential for some angst. I'd rather they focus more on the politics, and how LJH gets involved in all this, his backstory is also very intriguing. All that is so much more interesting than a series of failed weird marriages.

how are we sure the person in the asylum in the 1st episode is a woman/ the FL? i personally was under the impression…
Right? So it might not be in the same year. I'm so scared to even think of the possibilities😭

I do not get the comparison with Gone with the Wind at all. It was not the first story to have a woman having a crush on her best friend's boyfriend? Did I miss something in the trailers/teasers, is GC going to marry other men as the story progresses? I hope not.
I hope they drop the triangle as soon as they can, there is so much more material that they can explore. Triangles are basic af, they are done to death in kdramas and a show of this level with such an intricate plot does not require it. I see why it needed to be there in the very beginning, to show us how GC was striving for that ideal life of a noblewoman. But the war will alter her understanding of the world and her circumstances, consequently she should also begin desire different qualities in her future partner (= Lee Jang Hyun). So it would only make sense for her to get over her old crush. Character development also means that she would acquire a better understanding of herself, before she went for a guy who she thought was the best in the village lol but is he even compatible with the 'real' her?

Besides, how could anyone look at anything else, when Nam Koong min is standing right there looking like a dream? in every damn shot. His charisma in this role is off the charts. I have to praise the director for making such good use of his expressive eyes. I have clearly digressed from my initial argument lol

I have a question...it might sound really dumb, but the scene in Ep 1 with the grey haired person and the scene with LJH on the beach getting surrounded by those men (who looked like they were a part of some kind of army), are those two scenes happening in the same year 1659?
(or whatever the year they showed when the blue cloak young guy went to meet the old man with the secret papers who said LJH's name). You see, I'm REALLY struggling with names and identities and other details

That's why it is so satisfying to watch female characters like Gil Chae, Go Aeshin and Hina Kudo (from Mr. Sunshine) do things that are unconventional or be eccentric (for ancient standards). even tho such behaviour can be seen as a little anachronistic or modern for a historical drama, it is so satisfying to watch, as if women are reclaiming what was lost, or telling a story that could not have been told.

So true. Idk if you've watched Hospital Playlist, but it was like Dr. Chu Minah took over Gil Chae in that childbirth scene (AEJ played the role of an obstetrician). Dr. Chu delivering babies in Joseon 😂

Yes, you're right about the historical aspect, a history student myself here, so I know all about the horrors women faced during wars, the kind of lives they were forced to live and their poor circumstances in those days in general. I was just going off because as a viewer with my modern sensibilities it is INFURIATING to see how their education did not include some lessons that had practical uses like "survival" duh. It is so sad honestly. This drama is depressing on different levels.

yeah this is highly under rated by now .. 8.1 is way too little for this (probably will change later when it ends…
Tbh the mdl rating doesn't bother me but I'm infuriated how the Korean rating is hanging on 5%, that is just criminal...Like I cannot believe, I won't name the dramas because fans will come for my thorat, but I remember clearly watching quite a few dramas that did not match in terms of script, production value, acting, EVERYTHING to the level of My Dearest but got 7% and above ratings.

Ep 5 is so damn crucial regarding ratings, I hope (actually praying) that it will only move upwards from then, honestly it deserves double digits. I mean, we have a Daesang actor as lead who always delivers and is popular, Ahn Eun Jin is a good actress, her previous roles in Hospital Playlist and The Good Bad Mother are also popular, so idk what's stopping the people from tuning in in hoards😭

The fact that even the first line she said after seeing the man on the boat is “we can’t go through water,…
I love how they totally used this episode to show us a new side of Gil Chae's character, few female characters get to show such different layers as this particular character. She is so interesting and entertaining to watch, not a single dull moment. I had to stop myself from crying seeing her perseverance 🤧😭

Also, each time they met throughout the 4 eps, we learned something significant about both the characters - from their silliness to vulnerability and their strength. I love how there are no fillers or meaningless scene scenes in this drama just to throw the two leads together unlike most romance dramas.

I love how gil chae shut them up, honestly they are so toxic, if they taught the girls something useful like self-defense…
I cannot wait for Gil Chae to realise her feelings for Jang Hyun, just seeing her waver is so entertaining. Her falling in love with a man completely opposite her ideal type is so hilarious and romantic at the same time.

ummmm not the whole song tho, I don't think a MV for this show with that whole song will make any sense lol
BUT Ahn Eun Jin's version of the title track will do, it is hauntingly beautiful.

I hope no one throws stones at me for my opinion but I like this show better in its serious moments. The silly…
It's okay for you to have that opinion, I think there are many who agree with you. For me I really enjoyed the funny and silly bits, because I knew where we are headed, so I enjoyed watching them being carefree and worry about silly things, which provides the perfect contrast. Like Gil Chae worrying about her expensive shoes, like that even matters, later on for her to take the things from the dead man in the forest to save the baby, honestly, it is very sad and shows you the absurdity of life, when you think that way. Similarly, when they were praying in that temple, Gil Chae had her maid put the cloth for her to sit on, and just overnight they were homeless without shelter or fire to keep them warm in the woods.
And if you think about it, the light hearted bits only lasted two episodes, in a 20 episode drama. I don't think we will get that much comedic relief going forward. Altho I laughed out so loud when gil chae called that intruder an "ugly jerk", I think those moments provide a much needed break or else I might get a headache from the anxiety.

I hope there's no triangle.
honestly, I won't be able to stand it. Like I wouldn't say GC and YJ don't have chemistry, the actors can build it. But it does not match the power GC and LJH bring together, they are so hot together!

when LJH told GC that YJ cannot handle a woman like GC, that was so true because he cannot match her wit and charms. I agree she was acting quite delulu but her cunning and her tricks are not something that can just be laughed off as cute or funny, I always got this vibe from YJ like he found her tricks amusing but nothing more. whereas I think LJH see GC as more than that, like he knew she had the grit to survive, his discernment of her character is so meaningful when you think of how he looks at her as a potential partner despite him denying it, and not just as a very attractive woman.

How is everyone liking the first 4 episodes? Is it an emotional rollercoaster? Is it exciting? Is it better to…
It's an emotional rollercoaster for sure. Like you need some time to catch your breath, so much happened between Ep 3 and Ep 4. So, although waiting in between is a torture, it is absolutely worth it.
I remember trying to watch Mr. Sunshine in one go and getting a headache. All these top-tier historical dramas have so much plot details and things happening, it's better to watch them live and savour it. 'My Dearest" is so good I keep going back to the episodes while waiting lol

Gil Chae for the win! She really took the initiative.
Yes, this! all this time people judging Gil Chae for being cunning and manipulative, at least she got the brains to survive. They only made it till LJH and others met them bc gil chae was helped them. She really showed her true grit. I screamed so loud when Eun Ae left the cave, she put both her and gil chae in danger, and dumb girl had the brave idea to keep shouting gil chae's name, I literally pulled my hair out of frustration.

on a side note, I like jong jong she literally trusts Gil Chae so much, and I love how Gil Chae didn't leave her behind when they were boarding that boat.

Those old ladies were so annoying saying that women should commit suicide if they had been raped / almost raped.…
I love how gil chae shut them up, honestly they are so toxic, if they taught the girls something useful like self-defense instead of trying to fill their heads with gibberish, it would've be much useful. everyone including that pregnant maid looked down on gil chae and her reputation for being too cunning, yet they were alive for so long because of her, or else they would've been dead near that river boat.

this is so off topic, but the whole thing about gil chae and her "scandalous" reputation reminds me of the song 'The Man' by Taylor Swift, where she says "They'd say I played the field before I found someone to commit to/
And that would be okay for me to do" like so true lol
