In all the republican era drama's that I have watched, the ML's are always toxic. So idk. I haven't seen all of them but a lot. There was one where the ML wasn't toxic though with Wallace Huo but that one was extremely sad and a bit more realistic.
Just to clarify/make sure I am understanding things correctly...
So the ML was setup/framed by someone (most likely the 2ML) but he was planning on killing her family initially too which is why he took credit for it even though he didn't do it? And now that he's in love with GM he's probably going to try to find a way to "clear" his name to her.
Have you guys seen the recent trailers? What is going on! Nothing is making sense. If he didn't actually kill her family and he was framed then why did he say all those things in episode 1 in the flashback to her? What is going on?

There's a part in the show where the 2nd ML describes how rich the Gu family is and that if "Mr. Gu sneezed the whole city/area would feel it 3 times". So GM's family was very rich and powerful. Mr. Zhou was probably one of his many enemies and I'm assuming ZZ and XHY worked for him. Also, XHY mentioned that Mr. Gu caused his family's ruin as mentioned in the previous comments above. So getting rid of them would allow him to get revenge and rise in power.
So I'm assuming the motive is the following: stealing her family's business, rising to power, and revenge.

I read your comment just now. That could be the case. But I honestly strongly feel like the death of her family was a joint effort. Also, I think ZZ is blaming everything on XHY because he already took credit for the death of the Gu family which lead to his rise in power and now the only way to hurt him is via GM. So making her believe he did everything by himself and covering up is the perfect excuse.
Have you seen GMP before? I feel like this will be similar to the whole LCY, XF and GJP plotline where both of them were guilty of harming her family but GJP made it seem like he was innocent.

GM: "...You said you loved me...I was just a tool to be used to get back at my dad" XHY: "It's your honor to be a tool"
Fast forward to episode 14 ZZ: "...After all..it's hard to find a stepping stone like the Gu family." XHY: "Pay attention to your words and actions." ZZ: "Am I wrong? You dare to say you didn't exterminate the Gu family?""Didn't you get a promotion because of this?" ...fastforward... XHY: He basically says that they are the same "Compared to you I am not the worse"
This leaves me to suspect that XHY and ZZ were tasked to get rid of the Gu family and XHY was willing because of the alleged blood flued between his family and GM's dad. Additionally, even if ZZ is the one that actually did the killing XHY played a part.
What do you guys think? Cause otherwise I have no idea why he would admit to doing a killing he didn't do or say all those things to GM.
Also, I rewatched the recent trailers, the maid that shows up is clearly accusing XHY of killing the Gu family. She said she saw it with her own eyes. But I think I saw a clip somewhere where it looked like ZZ might have killed the maid. Thoughts?
