I think this was supposed to be action comedy. You finding it unnecessary is just your opinion as you can see in the previous comments many people loved the 2nd ep because it was very hilarious. If you don't like comedy in this type of stuff, then I suggest you should drop it because I think the comedic acts will stay.
I think this is first time for me where people are shipping ML with all the other leads i.e SFL, SML, FL(all of them in decreasing order of amount of shippers).
