Her family is apparently filthy rich. She'll be fine. She really messed up herself. If she was so against her…
Calm down. This behavior is actually concerning. I suggest you seek help.

I'm not interested in whatever it is you're trying to do here.

Unfortunately, it looks like that's already the reality of the situation.
Fair enough.

I am also concerned for her well-being, and I truly hope she can take a break and find something fulfilling to do. It does not sit well with me that the public is being so fiercly cruel to her while men grooming children walk the earth free, but I'm not in any position to have any say in any of this. I simply don't want this woman to harm herself for what her ancestors did.

I agree, let's leave it here. I've enjoyed reading your point of view.

I do have to say tho, I think my or your ancestors' wrongdoings don't carry the same impact because we are not famous. Maybe if we were public figures, we'd be prosecuted too. For example, I'm sure anyone with a last name of "Bundy" or "Dahmer" or even the name "Adolf" has had to go through a name change. Any association with evil will make your life more difficult.

I'm not arguing, though. I'm simply explaining to you what Koreans are saying and feeling.

I've only seen her in small supporting roles. She's fine in those. Not horrible, but not a standout either. So, I don't know about her being this once in a generation talent... But to say that her connections did not help her is ridiculous. Look at her filmography. 2019 was her first show - not even a full decade. It takes most people multiple decades. Ra Mi Ran is arguably one of the best Korean actresses ever and she did not get her break through role until 20 years into her career. She is priviledged for multiple reasons, not just because of her family's wealth allowing her to focus on acting and not having to worry about money, but also because she is rich enough to afford the cosmetic surgeries and to make herself look pretty.

Something not everyone has access to. While many aspiring actors and actresses have had to grind for years, accept small parts, waitress and get second and third jobs, live with 5 other people in a basement apartment and scrap by to finally get their names known, she's had the luxury of being from a wealthy family who could financially support her pursuing a risky career. So, no, her money did not make her famous. It just made it much easier for her to get to where she was. There is no guarantee that she would have been in the same place had she been born into a lower class family.

You don't seem to understand what having generational wealth gives you: Safety net and Security. That you are allowed to pursue your dreams, and if you fail, you will be more than fine. A regular person without that kind of wealth would not get the same chance. You can't just pursue your dreams, because how are you going to pay the bills? Being rich means you don't have to worry about those bills. Even if she never made it, she would have been fine. That's what being rich grants you.

You don't even have to compare her situation with just actors/actresses. Anyone from a poorer family trying to succeed has a much harder time than she has had. Imagine the poor kid who studied night and day to get into a good university in Seoul, having to work multiple parttime jobs just to afford their textbooks vs the kid with multiple generations of doctors and generational wealth who simply had tutors show up to her house, and all she had to do was be in the living room. Do you genuienly think these two people had the same circumstances? No. She's priviledged, and that matters, because her priviledge is there at the expense of other people.

This is unfortunately the most likely outcome. She can become anything else, but a public facing celebrity? Yeah, a very slim chance. Celebrities require good reputations.

I never said she should. I said this is how Koreans feel, and what is most likely going to happen. This is the reason, not just because she is related to that man, but because she is on television and she grew up rich. Like it or not, this is the world we live in. People with money get away with many things, but they are also very much scrutinized. You think Elon Musk or Trump can become actors one day? It's bad enough we have to see and hear them on the news and on reality shows they paid for themselves, but most people would immediately change the channel if they see a show with those two as the leads. Even if they were talented actors.

I never assumed your gender, men can be gorgeous, too. That's a weird thing to say. Men get plastic surgery as well, and there is no denying that these Korean celebrities have literally all had a lot of work done. It's not some shameful secret thing. SK is the hub of plastic surgery, of course they all do it, most of the population gets something done as graduation gift.

I have only seen her in a few things where she was a side character, so cannot comment on her acting career, but yes, this is a severe case and it probably is not fair that she is losing her entire career over something her great grandfather did decades ago. However, like I said, we don't get to dictate how Koreans should feel about this. This is a huge deal for them. This is about their country and history. I feel unqualified to judge Koreans' reaction to all of this. Hence, I'm not taking sides. I'm simply saying I understand why the Korean public is angry and I also acknowledge that it sucks to be in her position, and maybe it is even unfair.

Again, I agree, she didn't do any of this and is far removed from that time, however, she is still associated with what was done simply because she is associated with this family. Because she has directly benefited from what her great grandfather has done. You cannot deny that. The very fact that she is an actress means she has had the priviledge to become one. She has had the financial support of her family. The finances that are the direct result of what her ancestors have done. Let me put it bluntly, it was dirty bloody money, and she got to where she is because of that money. The only way to counter argue this is to show proof that she has never in her life received money or help from her parents. Which I doubt is the case.

You are now insulting Koreans, too. This is beyond wrong. You're acting like Palestinians are better people than Koreans. What a dishonorable thing to say. This is a gross generalization about an entire country. "Palestinians won't ever turn against her because they are warm and welcoming people" means you think Koreans are not welcoming and not warm and that somehow their reaction to all of this is wrong. You are doing exactly what you said you are not doing. You're telling Koreans they are wrong by being upset at this.

Again, you're not Korean, so you don't get to decide how Koreans should feel about this. Please respect the people of another country when it comes to their history and their independence.

Knetizens keep hating on her and maybe want her to be canceled because of her grandfather!!!!!! While kim pedohyun…
These are two very different things, but I am fuming that that pedo is being allowed to roam the earth freely. If he was caught with weed he'd be behind bars by now... but grooming a child and ruining her life to the point that she took her own life is not a crime, apparently, as long as you're a hot oppaur celebrity.

Some people are claiming she was bragging about having pro-Japanese ancestors, but they completely misunderstood…
If she were truly sorry, she would denounce her family, cut off all relations, return everything that her family's money has ever gotten her (including any plastic surgey, degrees, connections, car, house, etc) and start over with a new last name and never speak with her family. That's the only way she can ever continue being on TV in South Kroea.

Sorry, i don't get the controversy here! Why on earth is she apologizing on behalf a dead man, who passed away…
Because her family is rich. If she was so against her family, she wouldn't have used their money and connections to become an actress. She'd have cut off her family and denounced them if she was so "ashamed" of what they did. Since she decided to instead live in luxury and benefit from the money and financial stability her family have, she clearly didn't have an issue with what they did... because that's how they got rich. Also, if I'm not mistaken, she apparently lied and said she did not know anything at first, and then issued an apology admitting she knew. If you are not Korean, you won't understand their anger. It's very rude to tell Koreans how to feel about their country being colonized by another country. That's like telling Palestinians to get over it and stop blaming Israel...

The families of the independence activitsts are some of the poorest in Korea, btw. They often lived in severe poverty while the traitors got rich from everything that went on. That's why this is a sensitive topic for Koreans. She shouldn't have been boasting about her family's wealth (talking about having 5 fridges growing up and the line of doctors).

I genuienly hope she is ok because harassing her is wrong. She didn't do those things, but she shouldn't be a celebrity either. It's not fair and it's shameless. Unless she is willing to denounce her family and cut off all ties, she should respect her country and live a normal life. She should not be getting hate and she should not be getting bullied online or in real life. I hope she gets mental health support and finds another career that fulfills her. She's rich, so she has the means to do all of that, which is why I'm not worried.

I also wish Koreans had the same burning passion of cancelling scum like KSH who groom children as much as they have for women who do wrong. Men get away with so much horrific stuff.

you people seriously just defend anything as long as they're "gorgeous"? They're gorgeous because of a shitton of plastic surgey. You can be gorgeous too. You're not Korean. You don't get to have an opinion on this. Neither do I. I'm not hating on her, just pointing out that we as non-Koreans don't get to tell Koreans how to feel about their country's autonomy. Imagine if an actress with 1/8th Israeli blood went on TV in Palestine and said she had a rich family of generations of military doctors, and people dug deeper and found out her family actually worked with Israel to kill Palestinians. Would you be ok with that? Would you go around tell Palestinians to "get over it" because she didn't do it? I highly doubt it.

Sending her hate is absolutely unacceptable and I do hope she gets help and stays safe. She did not do those things, so she is not to blame. However, as long as she associates with this family, she cannot expect to not be associated with their wrong-doings. It is unfortunate, but she is well-off so at the very least, she should be ok. She is set for life. I hope she finds another profession and figures this out. Probably for her sanity and safety, leave Korea, too. It'll be hard to live a normal life there for her.

did you even watch the show fam? it's his personality and he did that due to the environment. fuck you talking…
I'm not siding with the others, like I said, compared to him, I get them more but I hate them just as much because they should have kicked him out of their group years ago. They're a bunch of spineless enabler losers too, keeping him around only to complain about him and be annoyed by him.

But he was 1000% a bully. Talking badly about someone's work and art deliberately loudly so everyone hears is bullying. What, you think that's professional? The man literally pretended to be lame to get sympathy from people. That's called manipulation.

Because she was 18 in real life
yes it is, the age of majority is 20, hence high school seniors being 20. This came out in 2020, it wasn't shot in 2020. She was still 20. Even if you consider the international age thing, that's still 19, which means she was barely an adult (youngest legal age possible).

Please explain further by committed man?🤔 I'm thinking of watching
when did she cheat tho? because someone else kissed her when she was drunk? that's cheating now? when did she mentally cheat on him exactly? when she told her friend that he was overstepping his boundary? lol

just gtfo with this l take, you're just a fan of the ML so you can't see it lol

he is 100% in the wrong. Yes, the relationship was not going to work and she wasn't being honest with him or with herself and it was not cool, but she wasn't actively hurting him. They simply weren't a match and he liked her a lot more than she did, and for someone who never receives that at home, that's a big deal... still, not saying she was right in how she was treating him.

but he was literally playing boyfriend with a child, his employee, someone he has authority over, and lying to her about it. He knew about her friendship.

she was in high school when they first met while he was a grown man and he's over a decade older than her irl…
I'm sure you would because you're clearly messed up. A person's brain doesn't even fully reach maturity due to prefrontal cortex's development only finishing around the mid 20s. That's the part of the brain that is responsible for emotional regulation and social cues and decision making. The problem isn't that some kid fell for an old person... it's that the old person chased after the kid. You're either a child yourself or one of those old men chasing after kids to be trying to normalize this... or you're a sad middle aged woman who was forced to marry a much older man and is bitter about it
