I actually watched it twice. While I didn't enjoy it the first time around, I'm really glad I gave it a second chance. Xing Zhi/Xing Yun is an ancient god adrift without purpose. Once playful, the disappearance of his companions turned him into a deeply sarcastic nihilist. Shen Li stands in stark contrast. She's intensely serious, having been trained since childhood to protect her people. They perfectly embody the yang and yin dynamic: she's the disciplined, responsible force (yang), while he's the cynical, untethered counterbalance (yin).

I get what the director was going for with the whole secret plot twist thing, but honestly, it was a strategic mistake. They could’ve thrown in a few hints to keep people more hooked. From what I remember, the only time she really drops the act is when she goes off on Lv Su Guan, that disciple of Meng Chu.
