Why was the main lead given screen time as if he's the second lead.....and the second lead given screen time as if he's the main lead?? I would have loved to see more relationship growth between the leads because honestly, they were very adorable.
Both the couples are poles apart. Licheng and Teng have become one of my favorite couple. They showcased every facet of what is considered as a "healthy" relationship. They were considerate, warm, honest, straightforward and most of all were highly aware of what accounts as abuse, emotional or otherwise. Whereas Xing Si and Yong Jie are everything that is wrong with BL stories. I thought I was transported to 2014-15 when such toxic plots were easily acceptable by the public. This couple made me drop my rating for this show. The interesting part was that the incest angle was the least of my concern. Yong Jie was beyond problematic. Boy needed serious therapy for the kind of behavior he practiced. And honestly so did Xing Si for not recognizing the problem and being "okay" with their relationship. For BL fans, watch this show ONLY and ONLY for Licheng and TENG, and skip the rest.....not worth it. I rate this show 8 only because of them.
This was soooo unexpected!! I wasn't prepared...at all. It reminded of my experience with My Engineer. Both these shows were not that hyped and were seemingly blah in terms of their early impression on the audiences....but somehow managed to surprise me. I do not want a season 2 because thats when things go downhill. The fact that it was only 6 episodes helped in presenting a focused story. Also....the acting was way better than many other BL shows. Not bad at all. I'm glad I watched this.
Alright....this was great!! I'm honestly enjoying the variety of BL movies/dramas coming from Japan and South Korea these days. There is so much more quality to them, whether on the lines of story, acting or direction. Its safe to assume that we are past the stage when trope based cliches were the only kind of BL content available (hopefully). Now that the genre is becoming more and more popular, makers around the world are becoming bolder in experimenting with the stories and presenting their unique take. This was one clever and funny interpretation of the BL world. I know its based on a manga, but the fact that the makers saw the feasibility for a drama adaptation speaks a lot about how far we have come as audiences. All fans of this genre should definitely watch this.
I recently re-watched this show and I remembered why I absolutely loved it. If we keep the AI device angle aside, this love story is one of the most well paced, believable, natural and heart warming one evarrrr. The logical side of me was definitely able to find sooooo many loopholes and practical problems with the way they dealt with the AI technology, voice recordings, usage of memories and neuroscience. However, this show has to be my exception. I was able to forgive the writers for this mess because they did a spectacular job with character development, story progression and layering of narratives. At the end of the day the story isn't about the new age science & technology but about about moving ahead in life after traumas or setback and finding love for yourself. It is about second chances, closure, loss, life, healing and wanting warmth for yourself in this cold lonely world. I swear I could have easily seen 10 more episodes of Ha Woon and Seo Woo just living in that peaceful house, getting married and having kids....even though I don't enjoy when shows are unnecessarily long. This show was finished off in a rush because of the ratings which was just sad. This couple is one of the most underrated couples in the kdrama world......the relationship was so mature, zero toxicity, so sweet and simply beautiful . Kudos to the casting people because I feel Jung Hae in and Chae Soo Bin did a great job. Sigh....I want more of them!
As much as I found the second couple closer to reality, believable and basically more human......the lead pair was astonishingly unrealistic. I guess that's the whole point of movies and dramas providing escapism to the masses. It was not at all a bad show....it had very good actors....the chemistry was great......and the production value was satisfactory. But honestly, 28 episodes for a show that has no plot whatsoever is tad bit too much. I think this show will be remembered for the great chemistry between the leads and an impactful romance of the second leads. All an all decent 8 from me. Now I gotta watch something from OCN to balance this overload of sugary stuff....lol.
P.S: Petition for a season 2 on Zhong Zen....boy was madly adorable.
I dont agree. This series is good but it is not a seismic change. Also, it has a lot of plot holes and issues.…
Ya sorry.....He's coming to me did not click with me for some reason. I did appreciate a different plot but somehow I did not like it. I do acknowledge the importance of lovesick in terms of how it is one of the earliest bl shows.....but maybe because I did not see bl shows since that era.....or thai bls were not my earlier bls......its not one of my fav. Just an opinion.

Out of the three you mentioned I only agree about Gameboys.....and yes I agree there were some inconsistencies with regard to writing. But I guess I'm forgiving of those aspects cos I've seen much worse, and this one is at least trying to do something different. But ya I hear you.

Let me put this into perspective.....BL is not a mainstream genre. There I said it. Its becoming popular....investors have started backing ambitious projects but it will be years before it can compare to the so called mainstream drama/movie world. The yardstick with which we judge BL genres is not the same as we judge thai lakorns, kdramas or c-dramas. Within this context I said what I said. Its very easy for anyone to critique this show because ofcourse it wasn't perfect.....it had many flaws. But the positives of this show are not only endearing but are also paving way for a new era in the BL world. Hence, it deserves this recognition. Thats all.
This is what having an ACTUAL plot means!!! Yes I'm talking to all the creators who are still stuck in the world of university campus, schools, pretty boys, top-bottom, I'm not gay but I like you etc narrative. This show is like a BL palette cleanser for the whole community. Because this show comes from the biggest BL producing country....the change becomes even more meaningful. Let's be honest, Thai BL shows dominate the BL industry......of course Taiwan has its heavy influence and Korea/Japan have become more active. But Thai shows are well funded with the actors gaining massive mainstream following, unlike in any other country. So for them to be stuck in the old patterns and clichés was honestly sad to watch. This show proves that this industry is ready to take on more ambitious scripts and evolve into something bigger, better and more significant. The change according to me started with I Told Sunset About you (could not watch anything after this for months)......which according to me is a cultural reset in the BL genre. But this show has further pushed the envelope. Honestly, what a great time for BL lovers. Special shout out to Earth and Mix. The boys deserve every bit of attention they are receiving......so much potential.
Imagine there's a dish you had sometime back.....you looooved it. For some months you've not eaten it but the memory of enjoying it remains intact in your brain. Finally the day arrives when you get to enjoy this dish again. The dish is presented in front of you.....you are super excited to FINALLY eat this.....but the moment you start eating you realize its not what you had in mind. The taste is different....probably the chef changed the recipe....of course he did not completely change it because the core ingredients remain the same..... but something is off. This is EXACTLY how I felt after watching season 2 of We Best Love. I can get very technical and find umpteen number of flaws in this season....but the bottom line is that they needed more episodes, smoother transitions and satisfying story progression. Also.....it would have been so so so so much better had they completely focused on the leads. The side characters or second couple hardly provoked any interest because they were given menial attention. Their story line was complex and hence, they deserved more screen time. But the audiences are watching this show for the main couple...so the makers had to take serious decisions.....which honestly was underwhelming. They presented a half baked story for the second couple whereas the story for the main couple was not only rushed but choppy to say the least. At the end neither of the story was satisfying.
What I liked? Probably the chemistry and the acting of the main leads. They have done a good job. I took notice of Yu in the first season but Sam upped his game in this season (special mention for ep 2). Its a good show only because we knew the leads due to season 1...which according to me is one of the best bl shows not only from Taiwan but also in general. This couple will always be one of my favorite. Now gotta binge season 1 !
What an intelligent little piece of gem!! This is probably one of the most technically solid show to come from Korea in recent times. The writing was profound, the direction was detailed and story narration was fluid. On the face value.....romantic shows can come come across frivolous that do not require great logic or thought process unlike thriller/horror/police/medical dramas (ofcourse I do not agree with this but just stating an ignorant mainstream assumption). But this show is so layered, well researched and insightful about human relations that I was in awe of the research team. This was straight up fine craftsmanship from the entertainment industry...no doubt about that. What I also know is that not many will like it.....not surprised though. This show will age like fine wine and will be able to resonate with generations because it successfully dealt with the idea of relationships. Also.....being a Ji Chang Wook fan since 2014......I like many of his fans was upset to see that all his post military enlistment shows were not doing well. This man shines in action dramas..... he got his fame by doing shows of this genre so it is very natural for many (including me) to wish he returns to such shows. But after watching Lovestruck in the City....I can gladly say he proved me wrong. The man clearly has thirst for acting as a profession. He was absolutely brilliant in this show. I was in awe of how nuanced he is as an actor. A very profound show......7.9 speaks more about the viewers who rated it rather than about the show.
This drama was superb. There are so many things to love abt it: awesome script, meaningful direction, stellar cast but most importantly.....great world making skills...probably because the original source material comes from the webtoon it's adapted from. The live action adaptation worked so well because the casting was bang on and the story narration was very focused. I agree that in the last three episodes it got a little draggy....but I think that its a general kdrama problem now. Because this show was so so good and memorable....I can't hold this against them. What blew my mind even more was how meaningful every secondary character was.....this might be one of those rare shows that does a stellar job in showcasing the beauty of every character in full glory. My first impression of Kim Hye Yoon was blah.....but by the third episode I realized that she is a very technical actor. She definitely has a bright future. Ro woon as Ha Ru was dreamlike....his character development was solid.....and needless to say his persona screams that he's a protagonist (I saw him first in About Time...he definitely left an impression). Finally, I saw why Lee Jae Wook was the breakout actor of this show. That man is born to act. Acting looks so effortless when he is emoting his character.....he is a director's dream actor and a writer's muse. He might not be considered "dreamy" or "stunning" like many other Korean actors but the man has an unbelievable screen presence that cannot be replicated. Either you have it or you don't. He is the next big thing. Great show....great cast.....this show will be revisited by many for years to come.
