What a delightful drama! As a single piece with Flourished Peony, this is definitely one of my top three! And I am so glad I discovered it recently and didn't have to go through the wait!

The princess is actually worse in the novel believe it or not. LCY is actually somewhat better, not as evil. In the end, he divorced the princess and sort of grudgingly realizes that constantly trying to one-up JCY and Mudan gets him nowhere and he should just go off and live his own life and leave them alone.

Thanks, I understand the JCY killed the Pei guy, but Mr. Xu getting killed by Qian was a total WTF moment and it wasn't clear to me what happened to Qian. I don't have it in me to go rewatch Ep. 19 right now

I only watched once, it was the one that got top scholar, right? I thought he got killed anyway, or did he survive?

The whole thing looked like a dream sequence, not a happy ending.

Episode 19 was sad and tragic, but the acting was phenomenal. My hat is off to everyone, the good guys and the bad guys.

Actually I was wrong on age. Just read a chapter where JCY says he is 20.

The novel is VERY different from the drama. In the book she is married at 14 but Liu Chang doesn't like her and ignores her. Then at about 19 she gets very ill, dies and a modern girl of about the same age somehow wakes up in her time in her body (the novel glosses over as to how or why this happens, it happens in the first chapter). She decides she will not live like this and quickly finds grounds for divorce.

No, at least not so far.

The novel is much more Mudan-centric and JCY does not become an active participant until about 1/3 of the way through.

Honestly, not the best one I've read, a bit draggy - lots of family relationships and drama, but if you don't mind that it's ok. VERY different from the drama, and so far seems like a rare case where the drama is actually an improvement on the source material. But that said it's good enough that I will finish it and I have dropped many, many novels of this kind.

In the beginning of the novel Mudan is 19, JCY is in his mid-20s, I think. I just started reading it.

As someone who lived in a country with very strict censorship laws as a child I kind of get it... sometimes things in historical c-dramas come across as though people in ancient China had no physical side to them at all which is kind of ridiculous. But I actually think that this particular drama does slow burn right and shows relationship development so the whole "no skinship" thing doesn't bother me, there is a lot more to the story here

This was great! I went into this drama with no expectations and enjoyed it immensely. What a great experience!

I just hate when scriptwriters have great source material and for some reason think they can do better. Oh well, at least I got to read a decent novel. I think the ML is a great actor, the FL was decent enough. What an all-around waste of potential!

Yep, I checked it. I actually don't think he woke up, he is still unconscious, this is all happening in his head. The doctor tells FL he may wake up tomorrow, he may never never wake up. Note quite as bad as KMLM, but almost. I am so glad I learn from the Glory and gave up at Ep 20. What a huge disappointment!

The poor guy looked like he was about to combust ;)!

Sadly, the bed scene in the ep 17 preview looks like a dream sequence... Hopefully I am wrong.
