I know! And I loved absolutely everything up until those episodes where suddenly everything sucked, so that raised my expectations even more. I was so disappointed :(

I think I tried out Go go squid, My Unicorn Girl, and Our Glamorous Time, and I didn't like them. I remember trying out Princess Agents, but I don't remember why I stopped watching. I'll have to check out the others.

yes lol the main character is a woman is a position that women aren't normally in, and even though there's a bit of resistence, for the most part, she's allowed to do things... and then suddenly, after all she did, the emperor was like "no. you're a girl or whatever and you did something wrong or whatever so you can't be with Xiao Song" like what? dude? you're just going to leave us hanging? that's just bad writing honestly. they should have ended up together

IM stands for Individual Medley... for competitive swimming. I think you're thinking of the triathlon. I'm sure it doesn't matter what stroke you do in that, but I bet they do Freestyle, since it's the fastest and most well-known

I actually loved her character, and all the characters, before I dropped it... so I guess she got worse as a character after I stopped watching

I'm really glad you could enjoy that, and I've also heard many good things about ALSB. And I believe you that the pacing was better and the ending was more satisfying... but I tried it out, and I just can't watch it because I'm tired of the main characters' trope "It starts off with high school classmates Chen Xiao Xi and Jiang Chen who are also neighbors. Xiao Xi, a cheerful girl who doesn't study much, is expressive about her admiration towards Jiang Chen, the popular guy known for his looks and high grades." --I've seen that a million times already. I don't mean to diss ALSB, though, and I respect that you like it :)

I agree with everything you're saying, but I don't think Yanyan is a Mary sue type-character... she is similar to the common trope for female leads in chinese dramas, supposedly skilled and smart, but actually stupid and impulsive and audacious... but Yanyan is different. I watched the first 18 episodes, and she showed more depth than those characters in those other Chinese dramas. I haven't watched the end of the drama, but from what I've heard, even though it's a great disappointment, Yanyan doesn't become that mary sue trope.

I had no idea what you could possibly mean by that until I hit episodes 15ish-18... that was when I had an inkling of what was going to happen next, and I looked it up, and now I don't want to continue... It's so sad, because I had such high hopes prior to that... the actors were great, the male lead was nice, the female lead was impulsive but open to learning, the cinematography was beautiful, I loved the costumes...... but just..... it failed me

yeah... Don't get me wrong, it was amazing for the first like maybe 16?17?18? episodes... but without giving out any spoilers, it just kinda goes downhill from there. I didn't watch past episode 18, but I read a review that essentially says what happens, and it's just not worth it
