Oh come on. Not every person who says they think it's overrated or that they don't like it is an anti with an agenda. I actually liked and enjoyed this drama quite a bit, But I also think it's overrated at the same time (not mutually exclusive,.) Does that make my opinion not credible too? My account is only a couple of months old. Newer than OP whose account is a year old.

The whole point was Tantai Jin was not inherently bad, it was something that was inflicted upon him against his will. He didn't have a say in how he was born, and what he was born *for*. He was tortured and abused his entire life. He suffered intense mental traumas. In fact his entire life was trauma. He's probably one of the most tragic characters I've ever seen. I would agree that he was crazier than XieWei at times, and definitely a dark morally grey character, but this was a direct result of the evil bone, his suffering and the fact he had never experienced emotions like a normal person. So when he finally did... well, he wasn't always very good at handling them that's for sure.

I mean, this comment is not really that negative. It's not like they excessively hated on it or gave it a horrendously low score or anything. They just expressed their opinion. Which is totally fine. A discussion board isn't just for people to praise a drama. People have just as much right to say they don't like it, or that they think it's a bit overrated as we do to express our enjoyment.

I was actually surprised to hear some people thought it was a full SE. When I watched TTEOTM I automatically saw it as a bittersweet OE/implied future HE. And then I read the novel.(as well as the original script ending) and it just validated that even more for me as it sets up the novel's epilogue. it's always interesting how people perceive things so differently.

I didn't assume you were making a comment about her specifically. I was simply saying, I went into this drama knowing we were going to get good kiss scenes, because Bai Lu almost always delivers on that.

8.7 is still a good rating. Like, that's above average.

air kisses are kisses where you don't actually touch lips at all. They definitely didn't have any of those in love is sweet. They had some cute pecks because it's natural for a couple to kiss like that in their day to day lives. But yes, she had quite a number of passionate ones with Luo Yunxi in both Love is Sweet and some pretty good ones with him in TTEOTM. The behind the scenes footage of filming those kisses is where it's really at though. (They edited them down for the actual dramas, as they do sometimes *sigh*).

Some of her kisses with Dylan Wang and Xu Kai, for example, are also very very passionate.

My point is, these kinds of kisses are not new for Bai Lu. She is very comfortable doing kiss scenes. I appreciate it. She makes it believable.

I don't think Bai Lu has ever really done fish kisses in any of her dramas.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but on the Youku International app, the subtitles (at least the English ones) are out of sync in some episodes. Sometimes delayed by quite a lot. it wasn't like that the first time I watched it. But doing a rewatch I have noticed it a few times Like the subtitles will be playing completely fine during half the episode only to suddenly go out of sync. It's annoying.

definitely. and I don't have a problem with problematic dynamics or relationships in my fiction. I've even found some scenes very sexy DESPITE the problematic nature of the characters and their relationship in past dramas.

But this particular scene didn't hit me like that at all. It was just uncomfortable to watch (again, I'm aware this was the intention) It didn't help that there really didn't seem to be a moment where she was really into that kiss. So for me, I never got that moment where I felt, Oh this is wrong, but sexy. lol

I'm sure they did. I kind of figured it was supposed to feel really off as I was watching it. But it was being hyped up and i've been seeing a number of people say that it was really hot. and I'm like... was it? Because I didn't think so.... the whole thing felt icky. 😅

Am I the only one who didn't find that cave scene sexy? I was just uncomfortable the whole time. (I suspect that was the intention too) It wasn't sensual, it was unnerving.

Oh yeah, there was hate between them, but I think there was love there too. (mutually conflicting emotions kind of deal) TTJ's love isn't really an illusion. She feels this sense of love from him, but because she doesn't realise he knows it's her, she can't understand where it's coming from. She's supposed to be a stranger to him. As a result she see's it as an illusion when it actually isn't. He can't control his expression so he blindfolds her to keep her from seeing it. I think if she saw his expression she would know that his love was real and that he knew it was her etc. I think the beautiful post coital description with them lying in each others arms, her hand over his heart (his weakness) and him kissing her through the veil shows that there was a closeness there, it was just riddled with deception at the same time. He wanted that night with her. He specifically chose her out of all the other dancing girls/concubines. And there was a part of her that questioned herself about whether she secretly wanted to stay and "have an affair" with him too. Because it's a fade to black, we'll never know what actually went on between them. Maybe it was soft in parts and rough in others - but maybe that's how they like it. 🤣 .Unlike the drama which was, for obviously reasons, softer and overtly romantic.

The version I read was in Chinese. It’s not so far off, but that wording in some of those other MTL versions is so awkward that it gets confusing as to what it means. (the one on MTL.com is pretty bad.)

It translates to something to this:
“The cold hands fell on her eyes and long eyelashes. There was darkness in front of her, so that at that moment, she had the illusion that the person in her body loved her deeply. (or "person above her" unsure about this one)
She felt a little confused and could hardly help opening her eyes to look at Tantai Jin's expression”.

I took this to mean, is that they were either, in the midst of it, and he was literally inside her or, they were about to be.

Because she was pretending to be someone else, in her mind this feeling of love HAD to be illusion/her imagination. This is where her confusion lies. But he DID know it was her, and he was in love with her, so it actually wasn’t an illusion at all. His expression gives him away. Which is important because just a few paragraphs earlier, she reminisces about their sexual encounters when they were mortal saying that he couldn’t always hide his feelings during them. “Only when he couldn't help himself, she would see the pity and joy that could not be concealed in the eyes of that loveless mortal boy”

In this case he doesn’t want her to know his feelings, he doesn’t want to give up the act – so he blindfolds her so she cannot see his face during it, and turns up the snarky insults.

She does ask if it’s an illusion, but I still think she was referencing this feeling of love that she couldn’t reconcile. Before she just assumed it was an illusion and now she's asking the question - wait, IS it an illusion? Though I guess there was also a second meaning, Like, saying "Su Su seemed to hear him chuckle. (was the laughter an illusion/did she just imagine it?) because when she listened again, there was no sound. Meaning, his laughter was her imagination - not that the sex itself was necessarily an illusion.

Then there is the novel equivalent to a “fade to black” (happens often for them)
Which is where the sex happened/continued to happen. I don’t personally feel this part was an illusion, I feel it was implied at the very least. Especially given they were naked before and after the fact.

This, again could be a mistranslation, but it’s something along the lines of
After the "night" in the Demon Realm passed, Su Su did not dare to reveal her cultivation as a goddess, so she had to suppress her cultivation and fall into a deep sleep…." ( the morning after so to speak) "Her veil was still on, and her white hands unconsciously rested on Tantai Jin's chest. Under the chest is the beating heart, which is everyone's Achilles' heel. He didn't remove her hand. The devil with dark hair and red lips kissed her on the lips through the veil."

It feels post-coital in general but also because of the fact “night” is in quotation marks. I’m assuming this “night” is also in reference to the sexual act that has just passed.

I feel the implication is further discussed through Si Ying/Yaoying.
She goes to his chambers to talk to him and gets a strong fragrance of divine energy “like an epiphyllum in bloom, with a holiness that expelled evil spirits” It is then replaced with demonic aura. She assumes the smell was just 'in her illusion/her imagination". Once again, a character assuming something is an illusion, when it’s not an illusion at all. (because we know LSS is in his chambers at this point.)

She was about to dismiss it but then she smelled this same fragrance, and “the scent of a woman” on his body and there were several faint cuts across his neck. Which would indicate that something physical was happening between them after the “fade to black”.

She talks about how it is normal for demons to indulge in such lust. That while demon gods are not indifferent to this by nature, they are “dispensable” to it. Meaning, they’re not indifferent to lust, but it’s not a necessity, or something that they always choose to indulge in. (and yet….it seems he may have done, which makes it more poignant) And that though “the devil could indulge in pleasure,” he shouldn’t be allowing a woman to physically hurt his body. That it’s putting his life in the hands of another. (honestly, Si Ying just sounds jealous af )

She then peaks in to his chambers and sees a woman on the bed, under his cloak. Her naked calves peeking out, “dotted with red plum blossoms” (not sure what this is insinuating….blood? Contact dermatitis, heat rash? I dunno. Maybe they were rough haha. I'm sure there is a symbolic meaning there too)

Again, in the following chapter Si Ying claims she’s not jealous – but that she doesn’t understand what these concubines “have to give him” Another character basically poo poo’s the idea and says The Devil God is not interested in knowing the ancient gods’ ways of “Dual Cultivation”. (so either nothing is going on or there is only mindless pleasure) Then in her own mind, she talks about how The Ancient Devil God was not a womanizer, only ambitious but that the young demon king is willing to take the path of dual cultivation and harmony”.

So I do think it was heavily implied. But maybe I’m wrong. Regardless, it wasn’t the overt expression of love or romantic "consummation" they had in the drama. That being said, the title for that chapter is "Cherishing"...so maybe it's just more subtle and "veiled".

ahh, yes. the immortal arc. I'm so bitter. I had a feeling there were cuts, but I didn't quite realise how bad it was until I saw discussion online about it.

I'm so greedy, even after 40 episodes I also still want to see more of Li Susu and Tantai Jin as well. Those deleted scenes from the immortal realm arc... Our sweet Susu and Cang Jiu Min. You know those scenes still exist in the vault somewhere. We must find a good hacker.
