On My Love Mix-Up! Dec 26, 2021
I watched this one and Utsukushii Kare at the same time. And both of them immediately jumped to my most favourites.

These two dramas are really exemplary. This is why I'll recommend both of them to everyone.

This drama is enjoyable, entertaining, romantic, well written, developed and played. What else to ask for? Will be rewatching it one of these days....
On My Beautiful Man Dec 26, 2021
What an excellent drama! By the end of episode 1 , when the credits started under 'follow', I was a complete fan.
This drama shows to all of the others, how a m/m romance of this format should be. It's really the WHOLE PACKAGE. The story, the development, the acting, the music, the modernity, and last but not least the Romance...
One thing I absolutely want to mention is that this is a very light hearted drama and I didn't get this feeling from the description. And frankly, I do not know who wrote this description, but I don't think the person differentiates between love and lust.
This is simply a youth drama about a high school student who does not speak much, has no friends, and who falls in love for the first time, and the student he falls in love with is the King that rules the class.

Whether you are into japanese dramas or not, whether you have already seen a drama with male leads or this is going to be the first one... I recommend this Romance to everyone.

(For those who loved this, I'll also recommend watching Kieta Hotsukoi. I have a preference for Utsukushii Kare, but I think Kieta Hotsukoi is really enjoyable, too).

A great end of the year surprise. I just bought my subscription. I'll always do it for Xiao Zhan, since he's proved to deserve it by choosing great works and by being the best. And now I am anticipating the pleasure...

Since this drama aired, I rewatch it every December during Holidays. Because I can't think of a better gift for myself.
I think the word Masterpiece has been mentioned so many times on this page. And I never thought I'd use this word to describe a drama, but it undoubtedly IS a Masterpiece.

But to me, Untamed is more than a masterpiece. It's a Wonder. A Wonder so impressive that it seems unreal...

Happy Holidays to everyone that brought this Wonder to life and to all of its Fans.

I have never claimed, at any point in the article, that Wei Ying has KILLED 3000 people. However, he himself asserts…
You start and end your analysis with one simple point. That if a drama mentions that a character killed this many people in a battle, then we should see them all in the scene. Not only this is understanding the text 'literally', but this isn't what cinematography is, even if we were discussing a creative documentary.

What is the scene about? While one director might decide that the scene is about the battle and show 5000 people on the screen killing each other, another director will symbolize a fight with a handful of people, the scene being about the beautiful story between a brother and sister. Without interpreting, and understanding the story, we can't make judgements about scene composition. A movie has a 'lanugage' a 'feel' and these are things, amongst a thousand others, to consider when analyzing even a single given shot.

The problem I have with your article is that an article about cinematography should teach its readers how to approach art with an open mind, whereas you are teaching the opposite, it should teach that the greatest thing about cinema is 'difference', whereas it's teaching that viewers should expect to see 'what they know".

Unfortunately, your article, but your comments show certain misconceptions about chinese cinema. World known professionals that received the most prestigious cinema awards are working in this industry, whereas you write generalizing comments about certain aspects being 'amateurish', simply, because, once again, they do not match your taste, or aren't what 'you know'. Since Joryenai covered some other topics, I will not repeat them. But as an author of an article you have more responsibility than a simple user has, and you shouldn't write about "facts" you cannot prove.

And lastly, something I hesitated to write, but decided to do it in the end, writing phrases such as 'I laughed when I watched' is kind of childish. Since, let's admit, they don't prove a point.

The issue I have with your article is not the fact that you wanted to teach readers 'how to crop' an image, but that you handled the topic in the wrongest possible manner.

Am I the only person here remembering the plot of the Untamed?:)

WWX never killed 3000 people in nighless city.
WWX was RUMORED to have killed 3000 persons. Something he refuted himself in the later episodes. After WWX died, there were LEGENDS about him... and the number 3000 was part of the legend...

Even though I mentioned this, my answer is going to be about something else. That even if WWX was mentioned to really have killed 10000 people, I'd still disagree with the article.

A shot, a scene is more than 'the number of the people". If I were to stand in front of a painting that said a 1000 roses, I'd hardly calculate the number of the roses on it, because, the impact of that painting on me wouldn't be about the number of the roses. The roses in that painting can be in different styles, realism, surrealism, abstract art, cubism. They genre and the style of the 'work' matter when it comes to the expected 'realism' in the work. And the forms and the alignment, whether things are symmetric or not, and 'number' of people, all of this is have to do with aesthetics, but not only. Forms' are 'communication means'. Therefore space utilization cannot be taught in a simple manner. Technique is there to express what the director wants to express. If we don't speak 'meaning', and desired impact, we can't speak 'technique'.
Untamed cinematography and aesthetics have been praised and recognized. And we can't expect untamed to look like an american blockbuster. To think that the director made mistakes, is having missed the important, having missed that cinema is 'art', having missed the Artistry of the scenes.
The same way the author explained that the article isn't antagonism against the Untamed, this isn't 'antagonism' against the author. But I had to say this. That my lessons of cinematography, I'll take them from the Director of the Untamed.
Apologies if I don't answer any comments afterwards. I do not find time for MDL these days...

What are the cultivators and immortals, what happened with the main character, why is he hiding his identity,…
Check the definition of a spoiler. What is not a spoiler for you, is a spoiler to someone. So telling the story and about characters, these are already huge spoilers:) ANY information about a plot a user wouldn't want to know before watching is called a Spoiler. What scenes there are or aren't in a drama, this is also a spoiler. I didn't exxagerate. On the contrary...

The articles have many ENORMOUS spoilers so when recommending would be nice to mention so that users do not discover details they should discover while watching. And it has interpretations because not all users would agree with lots of it. So it would be imposing a view on someone before the persone started watching. Please hide it under spoiler.

If you read the Article carefully, you will realize that it doesn't say anything else about the drama except for general phrases, phrases you can read in many reviews.. It is hard to prove some obvious things sometimes, but I'll give it a shot.

I have a feeling that the Authors of this Article did not watch this drama... Saying we like the drama seems more like a strategy to me... You write 40-50 lines about boybands, you can write a few more personal thoughts on this, since you claim you liked it...
One of the main reasons why I have this feeling, is because you can imagine certain things with 'posters' but you can't come to these conclusions if you have watched the drama or followed even a little what others like about it. Everyone speaks of the leads (when it comes to the actors). Of course, I do not mean that the supporting characters are not important in the drama, but it is not the 'importance' that the authors imagine. There are spin-off movies with the supporting cast that didn't come close to the success of this drama. Many fans have not even watched them (check the statistics on MDL).
What I have noticed when it comes to the Untamed, that there are people having a difficult time coping with its success. They would have probably managed to cope better if it wasn't the highest rated drama on many platforms. I have wondered about the reasons. Is it because it is a cdrama, a fantasy? Or, unfortunately, I have to mention the obvious, because the drama has two male leads and, god forbid, there might be romance in it? This would not be the first case when people express opinions even though haven't even watched it. And many of this type of posts, come from people who have recent accounts for some reason. All you have to do is check the profiles yourselves, when you read a post.

I do not know what were the motives of the Authors and it is not important. Everything I now, tells me they haven't watched it (at least not from beginning to the end).
I believe there should be articles on MDL about 'What is prejudice', ''How to understand and accept other people's choices', or simply 'How to write an article or a review'...

I feel like I'd disagree there to extents. Dramas can be well written and well done but not receive as much attention…
If you watch another drama and like it better for example, then of course, you are going to try finding reasons as to why untamed and not another one... because each person believes, you, as me, that his preferred drama is the best.
But the thing is, the reasons you'll think of might not be the ones as to why...

We are speaking of asian drama here. Isnt't this one of the characteristics of the hallyu or the korean wave, that the actors are handsome.... The expression flower boy didn't come from china. So 99.9 percent of korean dramas, for example, have handsome actors in them. But we are taking one fantasy cdrama and trying to explain the success by this phenomenon... This is not logical, if nothing else.
All I am saying, is better to look for the reasons of the success elsewhere and also listen to many viewers may be to understand as to why they think it is better (not agree but at least understand).

The korean scarlet heart has more watchers because it is korean. And the statistics show that there are a lot…
If we are speaking of the whole cast. I do not think of the cast of this drama as of a good looking cast. I just do not see it. As to the leads, I first of all think of them as of good actors. And I forgot to mention. I love lee jun ki (from other dramas) and I like IU, but I di not like scarlet heart.
I understand your point. We just have different opinions as to why this particular drama is so praised...

I have a feeling that when a kdrama becomes famous (historical, romcom or any genre), users do not ask so many questions as to why and how. But, when a cdrama becomes famous, we wonder why...
This is a shame because there are good dramas, as there are bad dramas in both countries.
I have more favourite korean dramas (not the highest rated on mdl) because I am newer to cdrama. But there are good cdramas with lower number of viewers than many average and higher rated kdramas.
As to the untamed, it is on the top of the list for me, because it is better in all different aspects, compared even to my favourites... It is just well written first of all, and well done and that is the secret to its success...
Replying to Cloudini Jul 10, 2020
Oh, hai, you seem familiar :3 I think you've brought up an interesting comparison. Someone can probably write…
The korean scarlet heart has more watchers because it is korean. And the statistics show that there are a lot more people watching kdrama than cdrama. On top of all lee jun ki has many fans. Also older dramas have less number of watchers...
And if I had to draw a comparison between the supporting cast of the untamed with another drama, it would be with a drama like warrior baek dong su or, kingdom of the winds where there are many male characters in the drama but just chosen to fit their roles without regard for their looks. And the dynamics is not the same either with the scarlet heart.
So even if this article could refer to the korean scarlet heart (the only drama I think of), I do not see how it can refer to the untamed. And I think irrespective of the number of princes in the scarlet heart, in my opinion, the rating meaning how well it is appreciated) would still be the same....

Liking or disliking is a separate issue, but your information is not correct. If you checked the information, you will have realizd that it is the opposite. It is the drama's fame and popularity that brought up massive viewers for the donghua or readers for the novel.
The drama aired almost a year ago. So people who watched it then, discussed more than just their love for the drama.
It would be strange may be if noone said anything negative about a good drama, but it is the opposite I'm concerned with, it is when people admire bad dramas...

Love the original and love the Special Edition. I'd recommend watching the Original and then the Special Edition. However, I think a person can very well watch the other way around, if for any reason he/she is hesitating to watch the Original version. Because one way or the either, if you are like the majority, you are going to fall in love with it, and watch both versions anyway:)
