While rewatching, I had to come here after episode 2 to take back something I said about Kiyoi. In fact, I was so infatuated with Hira's actor that I had missed some things about Kiyoi's. His 'delicate' side is flowing from the screen from moment one. <3 <3 <3
In fact, to me, this isn't fantasizing. Or rather, to explain what I mean, the 'imaginary shooting' was a 'metaphor',…
Hira being different from others. I never said he wasn't. But different does not mean 'not normal'? What is considered normal? Is it what majority does? What others believe it to be? Or what 'I' believe it to be? If by 'not normal', you mean 'not usual', then this is a different way of putting things. Because I don't think that Hira is is like anyone else in his surrounding. But he is more 'normal' to me than his classmates are. When we try to interpret a character, our personalities, knowledge, feelings after all, they all matter. Therefore, sometimes, the way we understand the character, can be fundamentally different. To me, all of the actions you cited, staring, or wanting to be with Kyoi, or following him to watch a dance (this is definitely not stalking:)), and all of the rest... Believe me when I am telling you this, when I watched the drama, if I didn't come on this page, I wouldn't even realize that someone can find this not normal. This is how normal these actions are to me:)
Do you know what I am going to do now? In about 30 minutes, I am going to make myself coffee and rewatch this. And by the way, I didn't want to interfere in the conversation. But I definitely agree about japanese dramas being better, and the source material is a big reason, as you said. And japanese/korean/thai 'bl', even though we classify them under a single term today, they belong to different genres. At least we agree on these things:)

Ended up writing today, after all:)
If I have to explain my feelings about Hira, I will have to start with the word ‘beautiful’. Because in fact the beginning of the drama is very important. We learn that Hira never thinks of anything or anyone as to being beautiful and never says ‘I like you’. And I like how this is written, in a sense that these two are linked and come together. And to me, this can’t be ignored, because at least ‘part of’ how he treats Kiyoi, is linked to him facing this extremely beautiful person. He falls in love with a beautiful person, he thinks he can never touch. While discussing Hira, we need to take Kiyoi into consideration. After all, he liked Hira too. They got close, spent time together. They were two people in love, even if they didn’t realize it was mutual, there was still a bond, something that made things right. This is an important point to me. When discussing something, we all put different definitions under words. And therefore, while you speak of worshipping, idolizing etc.. i won't concentrate on these, even though I wouldn't explain his feelings with these words. But one main thing where we seem to disagree is that you seem to think there is something 'not normal' or 'obsessive' in Hira's feelings towards Kiyoi, while I don't see any actions, I couldn't explain with 'love' with which there's anything wrong.
I will read the novel actually. And after I do, if you are interested, I'll get back to you and let you know what I think of it.
Hm...... I'm afraid these questions have no answers. Do we need to see someone physically going to fetch the watch…
Am I not writing well, or are you keen to misunderstand?:) I'll spell it out. 'IF they'd add the scenes you want them to add, it would become a soap opera'. Reading your comments, you and I seem to watch two completely different dramas. On top all, I think you seem to have a problem with Chinese, Chinese military, this drama and a lot more... Now, as much fun as it could be, a discussion between someone who loves a drama (me:)) and someone who seems to hate (you:)), let's stop it here?
I have some questions about episode 5 - if someone can answer them1. what happened between GYY saying 'let's get…
Hm...... I'm afraid these questions have no answers. Do we need to see someone physically going to fetch the watch from the Staff to understand how it got there? This would become Santa Barbara then. And as much as I'd want it to last 10 years, since I'd get to see XZ every day, I don't think this is how a film works. A good one, that is. This is why, as far as I am concerned, if this type of questions were to be discussed, it would be a discussion about 'another drama' 'another time'...

You seem to be surprised as to how I can't see it as obsession? Exactly my sentiments. I am trying hard to understand as to what may be perceived as obsession in his actions...To me, Hira is simply someone who fell in love head over heels. If there is actually any other way of falling in love:) If I have to get back to the 'gun'. Imagine, wanting someone to disappear from your sight. In cinema this desire you have may be shown by 'the person explosing' in front of you to million pieces. It certainly won't mean that you want the person to die, would it? The 'explosion', does not symbolize what happens to the person, but simply your desire to be left alone. And to me, when interpreting a scene, it is also important not to take it out of the context. The same scene won't have the same meaning in a horror movie, a comedy or a tragedy, or in a different setting, including real life. People's background play a role in their evaluation. But to me, the key to understanding a scene, is to understand it within its own world and context.

A director chooses based on his own vision. Especially, as you can see, viewers interpretations, opinions, feelings about a scene can be opposite. I never thought that Hira is obsessive, neither (answering the below comment at the same time) that there was anything unhealthy or disturbing in any of his actions. On the contrary. Hence, what I said in the beginning.
Yes. I have also mentioned i respect the person opinion and by writing my comment i only wanted to give a different…
I don't think the person deleted it. I haven't seen the original message, but I feel it might have been reported. In any case, you shouldn't feel responsible, if you were only expressing your opinion. Isn't this how a discussion should be?
Gun imagery makes me uncomfortable, also shooting scenes even if in fantasizing? Like, why shooting? why guns?
In fact, to me, this isn't fantasizing. Or rather, to explain what I mean, the 'imaginary shooting' was a 'metaphor', which means that 'his desire to defend' was shown in a 'more powerful manner'.
For those who want to start to watch, I just want to tell them that the 'mood' of this drama is very light-hearted. A family member who was in the room while I was watching this, was surprised, as to why I was laughing so much:) Some of the dialogues are really funny, including between side characters. I actually binge watched yesterday up to the 14th episode, ignoring everything I had to do before New Year:) So find a good moment and join the adventure:)
Rewatching this drama is pure pleasure.
