Nah, just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't make this drama "ridiculously overrated". This drama…
I don't think this drama was ever meant to be that serious or politically driven given how clumsy and funny Wei Shao became in the middle parts. They cut out four episodes, so maybe all the villain parts were excluded. I feel as though this drama reflected real life. Not all villains are that smart in reality. They're just ones wiling to do bad and go against the rules for whatever they desire. Although the villains had smaller roles, their stories were well explained. They were ants, unprotected, unloved, used for political power, and in the end, had to do whatever they could to gain power themselves to survive. I don't think they were evil at heart who randomly wanted and obsessed with power. Just too bad, like any villain, they didn't know when to stop or let's say, they couldn't trust anyone in the end. But yes, I do agree that the villains were a bit too easy and of course, too many unnecessary deaths. This is a romance idol drama in the end so the majority of us are here for the leads. We want a light hearted piece to relax and enjoy.

Whoa, perhaps it's in writing, so you may have mistaken the tone of my post. Don't worry, I don't take things personally and I hope you don't either. I didn't intend to offend you. Thanks for joining in on the chit chat, as the discussions have slowed down from over six months ago. I just like to reply to the majority of posts here, good or bad, when I have time. I honestly think all of this is based on preferences. You like historical, political, and not focused on romance dramas. This drama is actually the opposite. There's little politics and heavy on romance, so you may not enjoy it as much as expected. Every political move is to strengthen the leads' love and relationship. A huge chunk in the middle of the drama is meant to build their relationship, the pace becomes very slow and character driven. It's not a historical drama meant to intrigue with mysteries. It's about a couple who go from enemies to lovers, so many of the plots can't stay hidden or else they would seem insincere and can't build trust. The rating here works in reverse, actually. There's so many people rating dramas a low score when the episodes haven't even aired. π It has been over six months since this drama ended. The ratings have balanced out by now, so it's not rigged or overrated. It's truly how people feel. Plus, it's been very successful in other places, not just here.
Quite OK, but ridiculously overrated hereπ± When I see many ppl commenting they've loved it while skipping some…
Nah, just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't make this drama "ridiculously overrated". This drama has done extremely well domestically and internationally while being suppressed during its airing, which means the majority, worldwide, truly enjoyed this drama. Considering that dramaland has entered a winter season where not many people tune into long dramas anymore or a popular celebrity can't guarantee good results, this drama being one of the 3 dramas that hit the heat index this year, says a lot. This drama can't please everyone but there's no need to downplay it.
I think for me, the story, acting, cinematography, and chemistry was soooo good for 34-35 episodes, the ending wasn't bad enough to ruin it for me or bring the score down.
Manman called Wei Shao "Fujun" two more times in the later episodes but he wasn't there. π Once more…
Then during the talk show promo, Song Zu Er also said "Fujun" when referring to Wei Shao if you wanna stretch it. π And Liu Yuning was smiling. π
