Thank you to all the viewers for making this thread so lively recently, both good and negative reviews. All of us are going to have different expectations.

TPOB is the TOP 3 dramas that made a lot of money and splash for Tencent in 2025, so congrattsss! This drama, despite minor hiccups, remains well loved and popular.

A lot of the negative reviews come from people's expectations. Each to their own. The majority still find this drama soooo good thus is the TOP 3 money making dramas of 2025 for Tencent.

I agree. This was supposed to be a FL centric drama but they rewrote it to balance out both leads to be equal.

This drama got my heart from the get go, the first scene, how they introduced the leads, the tone, and plot was epic already.

I agree. ZYR kills it in here like never before, too bad, BSE acts the same as she has in all previous dramas, actually, worse, like you said. She has one face in here: that big eyed look for every scene.

It's a very well written drama.

Whoa. First of all, it's in your own opinion that all warlords are horrific people who kill, kill, kill, with no brains or compassion for people. Secondly, Wei Shao is a ruler, who won back his city, Xindu. Those are his people, not enemies or opponents. He enters Panyi as their new ruler also, so they're his citizens too. Why would he plunge and loot Panyi when he's way smarter than that and dispersed their resources, peacefully, to the starving Xindu citizens? A lot of wise warlords, if they could, would rather seize a city with no casualties and fighting, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Every drama tells a different story. Wei Shao is a ruler who loves the people and the only reason why he has been at war is to take back the cities that were stolen from them because his people are under tyrant regimes. His other mission is to expand the construction of canals to all the land, breaking borders, so that people wouldn't starve no matter which state they reside in. Even if he hadn't married Manman and proceeded with his plans of conquering Kangjun by force, he'd kill the Qiaos for revenge, but wouldn't massacre the entire city like Li Su. The writers make it clear that Wei Shao is not a heartless ruler. I don't see anything ridiculous or inaccurate about that. Not every ruler or warlord killed and burnt entire cities. There were some that assimilated by choice in history. Wei Shao had reasons why he did that to Manman. It's not that complex to understand but if it really bothers you all that much, then this drama may not be your cup of tea. It'll make you happier if you skip it.

Peace is part of it but not all. You may have missed it and didn't understand the other real reason the grandfather proposed marriage between the states. When Manman had Ah Fan elope with Bizhi, Manman told Ah Fan that she'll marry Wei Shao instead and that she doesn't need her husband's sweet love, but she needs his status and power.

The grandfather knew it was only a matter of time before Wei Shao, who had already taken back Xindu, reach Kangjun and once he does, he'll take revenge and kill the entire Qiao clan SO he proposed a marriage alliance not just to make peace, alone, but to save their lives. Once the Qiaos are related to the Weis as one family, the Weis can't kill them. It was a multilayered plan. To make peace, prevent Wei Shao from taking revenge on their family, and mind as well make up for what the grandfather caused the Weis. That's why when Manman was in the wedding sedan chair, her grandfather reminded her that as long as she could get Wei Shao to fall for her, don't forget to do what she could for the Qiaos when of course, he told her to treat them well, too.

The Qiaos wouldn't have cared to make peace if they had a stronger and smarter leader leading their state and army. They're only "making peace" to save themselves. If they truly wanted to make peace, they would've done so earlier, not 14 years later right when Wei Shao is at their doorstep ready to kill them.

Um, let's not view this drama based on our 2026 perspective where women have more rights now than men. Being a women then, in that era, WAS very very difficult.

Yes, they have to. It was a very difficult warring time back then, if you're not cunning enough, kiss your entire family, bloodline, and state goodbye. FL married ML not for love, it was for power and to prevent the Qiaos from getting killed, so of course, she has to be cunning. THAT's the whole point of the marriage.
