Actually fans were weapons in Japan and China. I read a good article about it but not in English. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_fan…
Man idk where you listen but it is the sound of iron against iron when they hit the fan. Idk what kind of listening you have, but it indeed is the same sound when sword hits sword for example, compared to when sword hits anything else πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I went back and saw he has a variety of paper fans, but only 1 not paper fan he uses in all the fighting scenes. We have seen that particular fighting fan as soon as episode 1. The other paper ones are in non fight scenes - he had a completely black one in ep 8 and 10, in the same episode 10 at the end he has a completely red paper one. In ep 13 he uses the same iron fan im talking about to save XFF from shooting SYR at the banquet, also used in the scene against that opera singer in episode 14 for context. When you see that fan folded, it is clear the middle and bottom part aint paper as they completely fill in the frame, whereas the top part is paper as it sits flat when closed. Also to note - no "white paper" bits on that particular fan. Moreover, while it is true they are following the novel, it is also true they changed stuff.

The one that he uses in episode 17 against Chu Lan is tho. It is iron on the middle and lower part, red paper on the top part. You can literally see it reflect light in the whole sequence.

Ok lemme clarify, i thought u were talking about the iron fan xiao heng had in recent episodes, not the paper ones in general. Also, sticks are hard but there are also sticks that are more durable and flexible and i was envisioning them when i made the above analogy compared to close combat and hunting rather than war. You see one side has hard stones while the other has a not so hard stick, but long and durable. On a side note, thanks for the valuable info i appreciate when people give me more food for thought. As for the paper fans in war, i agree they'd serve no purpose, compared to the iron ones that could even have hidden weapons incorporated onto them. Also, i aint a man. Just to clarify πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I was thinking u were talking about the one they showed recently that was an iron one. Also i agree the paper ones are a bit of a drag, but saying that all fans altogether are bad is for me a drag on your side. Its like saying that people using sticks and stones back when weapons and iron was not invented is stupid and serves no purpose in the same analogy.

Not only that, even in Tai Chi they have iron fan techniques along with sword and spear ones. Why would it be weird when historically they were used as a stealth weapons and deadly ones as well.

It is yes. Based on episode 18 trailer, A'Li finds out her father is alive, so episode 19 would be an intense…
That is showcased really well imo. They do not trust each other at 100% even after knowing each other for more than 6 months, which imo is really a cool move in the drama direction.

I am not familiar with the novel, but even with the chinese subs in the trailer, QiongZhi says " θ–›εŽΏδ»€ (XuΔ“ xiΓ n lΓ¬ng - county magistrate Xue)" which cannot be Xue Zhao given he is even younger than XFF.

It will also test their understanding with one another and their trust in each other as well. I am also looking forward to this cuz it will really showcase how much they care about the other person.

In episode 18's trailer, QiongZhi says "Magistrate Xue" which left me with the idea its XFF's father that is alive. Also if my deduction based on the trailer for episode 19 is right, the one being tortured is A'Li's father.

Ep 19 trailer! The most intense scene between our leads are coming, I think!
It is yes. Based on episode 18 trailer, A'Li finds out her father is alive, so episode 19 would be an intense one with her trying to save him and the dynamics between A'Li and Xiao Heng becoming tense compared to how calm they are these past episodes.

I did seem abrupt. I thought, "that's it?" when the uncle came back home.
There is the aftermath probably left that will be concluded in next episode. If you remember xiao heng said that it'd be a shame if the observers came for nothing and they will blame someone, but knowing A'Li I think she calculated everything with xiao heng's involvement. She won't leave em unpunished, just as she dealt with her cousin and sister in the jiang family.
