He saw XY as something similar to a friend, so helping him, FY and Gu Jin's mom bring back Gu Jin was something i expected to a certain degree from him. Also, its a happy ending for him as well as XY said fate can be changed and that was the push he needed to help them; he thought the Ancestral God did not love the devils as he loved the immortals, demons and the nether world beings and that devils were created ultimately evil. I pretty much agree with you. The way HBY called Qi Lian a "virus" gave me a similar vibe to the one you have stated. Tho i think Qi Lian may as well be a real 2025 comatose patient (probably the first one along with his friend) that forgot his real life and lives in the AR, hence why i think he was called a virus.
