Well, I’m still in SOKP droughts, ZLH and BL chemistry is a bit hard to break out of lawl! 😅
The main thing I can’t seem to be bother to go through the politics aspect of it, especially with atrocious subtitles 😑😑😑 it would require a lot of rewinding, then it seems to be pointless? Like the talk between the high ranking officials and his nephew? (Which I did try to rewind to know what’s going on, then find out how amazing I am at understood what they are on about with lightning subtitles lol). Blah blah blah, then immediately his nephew die, I’m like uh, ok…
lol, so LSS was like super deadly assassin, then LYN was super good at martial art, too. So I’m like ok… then she got poisoned and immediately get introduced to all purpose poison pill. This makes me laugh…. I just couldn’t take it seriously lol. Even today, we don’t have that 😅 unless this poison later on going to come back n bite her?
And then the pill comes with the handicap, can’t use internal force, I thought internal force is what you use to jump and fly high in wuxia, no? Anyway, the pill said no, next second, she just jumped over a 2m high wall 🙄 maybe I haven’t watched wuxia for a long time, I lost all my foundations lol? Anyway, I’ll wait for a few more weeks then will rewatch from the beginning for a clearer mind lol. Plus it’s heading to Christmas party season, so I’ll be busy :) I’ll lurk around to read the comment section though.

Just to be clear, I’m actually never annoyed at his characters lol, not even his actions. I’m ok with it all :) possibly I know he’s SML, and his character is nice, so I’m not annoyed :)

My point was if JXN did not pull him back (did not say anything), would he still act like that? Or he will be just straight lace? It’s the question idk the answer to. I would hope that he would give the benefit of the doubts but would that be his characters?

Uhm, bitchang first few minutes were no acting? Like I thought she should display some anger or displease, no? But her face shows zero emotion? Not even cold, just like nothing? Am I missing something? So far, I’m not into the politics storyline yet, part of it because of iqiyi stupid subtitles, 1 second appear with 2 lines to read 🤦‍♀️ part of it, why introduce someone’s name like they are important then kill him off within 2mins? lol.
Also can’t the bad guy count? They going in with less than 10ps and they didn’t realise they lose 1? And not once but twice lol 🤦‍♀️

Haven’t watched it myself but here are the summary of the media campaign around the time it was airing:
1 - ML and FL used to be in a super popular series, Love between fairy and devil, last year. Where ZLH was the 2ML that (kinda like ZZ), destined to be with FL (Esther Yu). So this is supposed to be a healing story for them. But like usual, the CP fans of WHD (ML of LBFAD) and YSX (Esther/FL of LBFAD) hates this idea. So both camps fights/smear campaign.
2 - while the drama was praised for lighting, pictures, technical stuffs, the plot was questionable. The articles claim that SML and SFL stole the show, and their acting overshadowed ZLH, so more hates come down on ZLH’s acting ability. Some even said that the GZY characters/plot/growth was severely lacking, so that character got even more hate. Talked to some fans of the show, they said the screen time was justified and make sense per plot line. However, like I said all I’m reading is the 2 leads didn’t have enough screen time and their plot/character arc were severely underdeveloped.
3 - the ending.
I even had a chat over Twitter with someone, who is a bit upset that GZY didn’t have a good outcome despite being a good guy yet XW is a dark/toxic character but get a HE (I don’t agree that he is toxic). This conversation shows that many ppl merge the character with the actor, and anything that went wrong with the series to the actor himself, if he’s the weakest link in their eyes. Rather than seeing ultimately, the fate of the character lays with the director and how he wants to end the story. And how the character develop is with the script writer, the actor can only do so much. All these weaknesses are however being used by antis, and they are always louder than anything else.

It’s an opinion, you can’t stop ppl from voicing their opinions. We are human, we are shallow, believe it or not. If look does not matter, we wouldn’t breed to have taller and more prettier ppl lol. It’s just fact.
And while I understand the frustration of ppl being mean, if they are purely being mean (clear antis), go ahead, nuke them down.
However, there are others who genuinely not like a certain look, because they are not used to it, not their standards, and that’s fine. Show them why this actor or actress is charming and deserve a chance. Be positive about it is better than being negative about it. And after you have show them say clip of LYN on stream being funny and witty, and they still don’t like the actor and won’t give him a chance, you can again nuke them down for all I care 🙂

I’m normally avoiding politics drama because of the reason you said. However, this show has pretty simple politics (only involves 3 parties: Yan, Xue and the emperor). Just rewind to read all the texts and you will not get lost.
