Tall poppy syndrome. Any dramas with heavy promotions tend to get really bad words of mouth, unless it’s on CCTV, which will shut anyone that badmouth their productions lol. But yes, it was quite shocking to me today to find out why TTEOTM was hated so much lol. If the fandoms or YouTuber’s favourite tv series are not promoted and hence not become a commercial success (not big enough success), and yet TTEOTM, a drama they don’t love as much, got all the promotion! Hate by association? Lol

It’s not about the number, but rather the traditional marketing, western marketing, is too in the face, not trust worthy. Asians believe in words of mouth more, so hiring water army is a more acceptable strategy :/ and this is from me reading on haters’ comment under AvenueX video because someone asked about the juicy drama AvenueX talked about but won’t deliberate further (why I went on her video figure out what drama he was talking about). Also why AvenueX dislike it, too. “YouKu just don’t know which is a good drama to promote, since guardian day!”
