I just watched episode 5 and yoh the show picked up so hard right from the market scene 🔥

They should have started from the 5th episode as the first to capture audience immediately 😆

Yep indeed, you should watch wonderland of love. Most amazing story, I tried it for Xu kai, and stayed for both leads. Since then, I also try to watch Jing Tian's dramas

When I first watched EP 1, I was like duh I have seen all this in the trailer released already, I wasn't that convinced. Then I watched EP 2, 3 and 4 and --> I LIKE IT, I WANT MORE! 🤩
Love the laid back vibe and the leads are natural actors.

For those who just found this show, don't judge by ep 1 yet, keep watching cause it keeps getting better

The promotions and treatment for this drama has been poor since it finished filming, it's the lowest on their prio.

But we the watchers will make it great and make it soar. Let's get ready for Jing Tian, Zhang Linghe and Darren Chen 🥳

The way I'm so excited about this show, it's been so long I have been waiting for something very similar to The Blood of Youth and now we get a prequel with a good cast.

For those who didn't watch TBOY, the cheat script for it is- you will hear a lot of intros and names of martial artistes, some may reappear, others show their amazing skill once and never show up again. Don't worry about cramming their names or getting confused, the whole story will keep flowing smoothly

Let's review and score elements of this drama

• Romance between ML and FL (1.5/10) : One-sided dynamics and a bit frustrating. FL was clearly not that into ML and we had no idea or back story on how ML fell for her and became so lovesick. Most of us enjoy dramas with crazy in love partners but not when it's one-sided, without much reason nor when the object of love almost makes it an assistant love dynamics. FL was still open to trying with the SML even though he ki*led her but scared to be with or admit love for ML due to a misunderstanding in the past. One would think LR caught PWX in bed with QZZ, with the way she held on to the past with PWX even after the misunderstanding was cleared.
PS - We have many dramas of grey characters not wanting to give into love cause of their upbringing but we tend to feel how intensely they are about that person, this was not the case in this drama.

• Romance between FL and SML (8.5/10) : Anyone can k*ll FL and she will hate and deal with them except SML. Both forgive each other of anything easily. The only reason they are not together is because SRQ didn't try as hard as PWX, and LR doesn't trust he will put her first when it comes to his beliefs. Eg: he literally poisoned her. But the feelings were still there on both sides and the drama fleshed out their  story more; if they were the leads it would make more meaning.

• Plot (4.2/10) : It became more about one-upping the noble families than it was more about doing what's best for the masses/people. It was framed that fighting nobles was helping the ppl but honestly we barely saw how much the main characters cared about the masses, except if it was a fight to win the noble families. It also turned fully to SRQ plot. Barely even scratched interesting stories such as ShangguanYa and Crown Prince. Also, most people had to explain the novel before some elements of the drama could be understood, which isn't good. The drama should be standalone and doesn't need novel readers to do the work for them.

• Acting prowess of Zhao JinMai and Zhang Linghe (10/10) : They are the saving grace of this drama, very natural and can emote. TPR had the potential of being number 1 this year across all platforms, if they had either followed the novel or at least changed to a more interesting romantic (falling back in love) dynamics with each other, without one begging for love and the other elusive.

• Past life vs current life redemption (3.5/10) : One might say PWX and SY were the main ppl that redeemed themselves; however,  with the way a top prime minister who looked badass in the 1st episode with lots of guards, almost controlling the court and with passion for protecting the people (from PWX discussion with CP in the first scene), was brought down to a mere sidekick with zero purpose except seeking attention from FL, many would say PWX past life may have been better than the second life. The only place he failed badly was not being a good husband that made his wife secure.

• Chemistry between ML and FL (8.7/10) : Had so much potential but the producers refused to tap into it. Literally the reason some people held on

• Other (9/10) note worthy mentions are Tong ye, the cinematography,  the bickering in the beginning, smartness of LR, Green flag PWX - one of the most Greenflag MLs and finally, the comedic timings

I still left my rating of the drama at 10/10 just to support the hardwork of ZJM and ZLH.

It's been so long since I last watched, I decided to check out the latest with this drama and I see its still same. We still have :
1. A weak plot

2. SML - The most annoying SRQ as the main lead (the drama should honestly have been named after him).

3. FL still has no character development and tbh unlikeable.

4. ML still a no identity love interest who is continually begging for love (in a sad way) from someone who could give a rat's a**. Right on brand.

At least when some of us were critiquing the drama, we were still watching and it kept on trending in number 1. But ppl kept commenting we were being delusional and nothing is wrong with the writing of the drama. Now most people dropped it cause no one wants to be called delusional or dramatic. Just super happy about ZLH and ZJM saving the drama to this level

Can someone who haven't watched the 1st season watch the 2nd one? Or did the 1st one end with a cliff hanger and I will be confused throughout?

Yep, that's the problem I have with production, they gave a quick redemption arc to ML and for FL nothing. It will cause unnecessary frustration from viewers about the FL and that's really unfair for the character.

I can't believe they are the one who actually romanticised her feelings for SRQ in 2nd life, I thought they were following the novel but I guess when it comes to him production are willing to make changes smh

It really is soo weird how production glossed over the kil*ing stuff. They never made LR feel guilty for even misunderstanding ML and offing him. They also never showed her anger for SRQ and instead showed her pining for someone that kil*Ed her. Very poor writing on their part. And also if the roles were reversed and it was PWX doing all that to LR I will be soo mad as well

I sometimes feel the writing seems hypocritical cause I remember in the beginning when PWX told LiRong the main reason he messed up and didn’t admit his love in the past was because he didn’t want to bow down to royal power. And LiRong said he knew he loved her and treated her well but he was just stubborn about QZZ.

PWX asked “Why didn’t you wait for me?”
LiRong - “Why should I wait, I’m not a junk collector”

I recall we all cheered for her as a woman that knows her worth because of that speech 👏

Now what we are hearing in the drama from LR is wait for her. And in waiting for her, we are almost given a ML willing to use his head to walk just to get FL attention for half of the drama.

I’m not saying LR needs to say yes to PWX, but all I was hoping for was a decision and stance as she has being portrayed. Even though it’s getting better now but more than half of the drama. I honestly wish production made this into a couple who tried not to but fell back in love again at same time with each other; with a bit back story of why they fell in love in the first place with each other

Shangguan Ya is so shippable cause why did I immediately start shipping her and Lin Feibai 🤗

I also ship her with SRH. If they had their own story, Lin Feibai could have given a good SML syndrome unlike our current SRQ who I don’t think anyone had SML syndrome for.

Indeed she loves herself more and that’s totally fine, but people keep blowing their love story out of proportion as if it’s something grand and tbh I don’t see it.

Hmmm I’m thinking you are also right about her not loving wholeheartedly in the past as well - because she told PWX in ep 8 or so that she knew he loved her and treated her well but he was just stubborn about QZZ and he mentioned he was afraid and didn’t want to bow down to the power and asked why didn’t she wait for him. She answered - why should she wait for him as she is not a junk collector. Now in present times, what we are hearing from her to PWX is wait for me, which is weird cause that’s the problem both had before.
The producers really didn’t think it through.

Oh you are right when it comes to the acting cause the reason I’m following all through and even rated the drama high is just because of ZJM and ZLH. They are soo good 😊

PWX mentioned it in episode 8 he was afraid of bowing to the royal power which means practically the same thing as LR is preventing now

With regards the flower scene I was solely in favour of LiRong, because catching those culprits were honestly more important than whatever confession PWX was planning. However, I was 💯 with PWX on the words he told her as that’s true. Indeed production is carrying everything too far. I guess I expected this famous love that transcended two generations in the drama, however their romance is meh tbh. It def shouldn’t have looked one sided

But that’s exactly what I’m saying - Isn’t it weird she is doing the same thing she accused PWX of in the past? He himself didn’t like QZZ and was restraining himself as he was afraid of giving himself fully as I mentioned further below in the thread. Indeed both their indecision is not about SRQ nor QZZ but that doesn’t mean they don’t let the misunderstanding take root in their partner’s mind.

The way he knew he didn’t like QZZ but never explained to her whenever she asked. Same way with how she leaves the nostalgic feeling and care with SRQ and never explains when he asks her.
