I was really hesitating to watch this after reading all the comments. I tried and do not regret it. I have watched shows with more apparant homophobia, and while I do not condone this in any way, this was relativly mild here..I found this drama to be a fast watch, without being too cringy and thankfully without too much angst. There were in comparision really many worse BL dramas last year. It is a nice One-Time-watch for me.
That is where I see life differently. In dramas they seperate often for years only to suddenly get back together as if the years in between do´nt and even the people they were together with don´t count. I see this as a drama plot, as this only happens rarely in real life. It also makes a difference why you seperate. Is it because of family, distrust, cheating etc...I highly doubt that any sane person would want to be together with someone again that hurt or cheated on them. As the whole domestic dispute is really unclear and maybe he was accusted unfairly, why should he bother with her feelings. This could have ruined him- as it happened with other actors, where it was proven that they were innocent, but still they had this stigmata. This might be a cultural difference, but everyone should be responsible for their own feelings and not to have to ignore their own thoughts/feelings just for the sake of others, as this could destroy you. There has to be a balance. Should he have been guilty-then her attempted suicide letter is even more strange as it wasn´t mentionded there at all...well, what was reported. Just this year another actor was proven of domestic violence, so if he was guilty, why was this not proven?
I was once accused of something I didn´t do and it took me a while to prove that this was wrong, and though it has been decades, I still can´t figure out why the persons involved accused me. It is easy to decounce someone, or accuse someone, especially today where rumours can be spread widely. That is why I suggest to treat lightly with comments, or what is mentioned in the news, as we only get a small view into someone else´s life without having all the facts.
I just want to clarify, she did not die. She attempted suicide. If you tried to follow the articles it shows that things were not simple, because why suddenly attempt suicide 2 years later after accusing him of domestic abuse. I suggest to stay away from the personal life of the actors and judge their acting, as we never know what is the truth and things get hiped in the media, just for clicks or fame. And normally the presumption of innocence is an internional human right: Innocent until proven guilty.
I have just started reading the novel -right now about 144 from the 489 chapters- and I anticipate that this adaptation will probably almost have nothing to do with the novel...One main thing I really like about the novel so far is, that we finally have a female character that is in her 30s and most of all, one that doesn´t have the "typcial" pretty or beautiful looks, but rather a tall, really strong and most of all "manly"woman...that also didn´t get her period at all...which makes it a lot easier..because fighting, marching somewhere, while also having to remember to switch out whatever they used back then for the blood..is really difficult.. Just looking at the female lead..I wonder how they want to portray this...because her "non-womanly" looks and her age play a big role in the story....On the other hand Di Yefei is decribed as a man that is constantly harrassed by his fellow soldiers, because he looks so much like a woman...ehm..I have seen Liu Yi Chang in various dramas..and he doesn´t really look feminine to me...
After rereading the synopis above and comparing it with what I have read...this will probably be like "The Great Ruler"...while only some of the names and vague plotlines are the same, novel and drama adaptation will probably have nothing to do with each other.
This is a really down to earth drama. I dropped this drama after 16 episodes. While I found it refreshing to have real characters and to have finally a male lead that doesn´t have the "idol" looks, there were many characters, that I found uncomfortable, annoying and to put put it in a simple way: They made my blood boil. Most of all Huang Cai Yun. Her character is acted brillantly by Liu Min Tao, but I wanted to throttle her most of the time. What is missing in this drama, at least for me, is a balance between all these really enraging characters and something else, that makes you smile, laugh or gush. While everyone performed great, I didn´t feel the romance/love between our OTP. I felt really angry most of the time while watching and this is not healthy in the long run. So, while this this drama has many great actors and acting, I find it stressful.
If someone is wondering to watch this based on the assumption that it has something to do with / or is a modern version of The Condor Heroes...it doesn´t...only the 2 OTPS names are the same...that´s it...and also only because the ML chose to change his name to "fit" the FL´s name..
Well, this drama is not for me. I am droppping it after 3 episodes. While I liked Ireine Song in Ever Night, all her modern drama roles seem to be the same the same mold, which is boring and also makes it hard to differentiate, which drama I am watching at the moment....I can´t get into this drama or connect to the characters at all. I kept fastforwarding. This type of story has been made over and over again and this production doesn´t manage to make this kind of story special or stand out. So, it is a drop for me.
I was really looking forward to this remake. For me, it is a disappointment. The beginning feels rushed, I can´t connect to the characters. While the original has its weird and crazy moments, there was a charme to the story and how the OTP felt in love. This is missing in this lakorn. I have seen the OTP in another drama and I loved their chemistry there, but in this lakorn, I don´t buy it. I dropped this drama after 12 episodes.
So far the first 3 episodes are medicore...nothing new and I even had the urge to fast forward...it feels like watching a drama from 10 years ago...this typical trope of thinking the wrong guy helps her all the time. and this heavy emphasis on the "luck" scheme...urgh...maybe I am too old ...I will watch the next episodes in the hope, that this is one of those dramas where you have to suffer through the first episodes and the later ones are actually quite good.
So, I didn´t have a lot of expactations for this drama after seeing its length and the poster..I thought it would be something where I could turn my brain off and relax..well...to say it mildly, I was more than underwelmed watching it. It felt bland, I couldn´t really connect to any of the characters. There was no spark between the OTP. This type of story has been shown many times and the execution of it felt more than flat. After watching the first 14 episodes I almost gave up watching it and fastforwarded the other 14 episodes in 1 1/2 hours...I kept hoping it might get better..well at least for me, it didn´t..I find this drama a waste of the actors.
I could never imagine Johnny and Dilaraba as a couple, but they have great chemistry. This is finally a mature romance and couple. I loved how their storyline developed and how both grew and learned together. But as for the rest, most of all Qin Qing, which I absolutely despise, were typcial drama characters. I watched their scenes in the first episodes, but kept skipping them later on. Watch this for the OTP and ignore the rest.
So far I am enjoying this drama a lot after watching 4 subbed and 8 unsubbed episodes. It is pretty straightforward and something nice to watch to relax.
I started watching this with really low expectations, but now I am loving this lakorn. This is another example, where I love the Thai remake, while I couldn´t stomach the original. Pong and Esther have amazing chemistry, their love was believable and brought me to tears. I used to think that Pong´s acting isn´t the greatest, but he nailed his role here. I really hop that he will stop being typecasted as the cheating husband and has more roles like this, where he can show his acting skills. Esther has matured a lot and I loved watching her. I never got bored watching this drama and will definitely rewatch it.
I have watched 6 episodes and so far I am liking it. It is lighthearted, a little bit silly, but fun to watch. It is a wonderful break from stress and what is going on right now. Personally, I have no idea why people seem to dislike the female lead so much. I don´t find her annoying. There have been other dramas where I couldn´t stand the characters, where the characters were simply too bratty or irrespsonsible.
Ok, the trailer gives me a feeling of a drama best watched during fall or winter, where you can huddle in a blanket in front of the screen with a cup of tea or hot chococlate...O_O is it really the right time to air something like this, when the sun is out and shining...lol Well, I´ll wait until it has finished airing to binge-watch.
