Glad you're liking it... I watched a couple episodes and felt like my brain was melting with how generic and uninterested I was so sadly I'm going to have to agree with the other commenter. Within less than 10 minutes even the filter they were using had be cringing with how 'generic' it was. I'm literally watching Holy Pearl from 2011 right now and the FL THERE is giving me the exact same vibes with similar vocal tone and dialog as the FL HERE and that one I'd have dropped also if SHE were the only draw (I'm instead invested in every one ELSE since it's an Inuyasha adaptation.)

We are WATCHING the "other planet". The virus has an A variable and a B Variable. A is Yin who are 'normal' B is Ren who are 'violent' The Pact is made because the more the fluids are exchanged the more they ONLY work for the Ren. They have yet to 'say' what is needed to form a pact but the actual soothing of his need requires more than just kissing, it needs 'more and deeper fluids' 🤣 leading the assumption that they need to have sex... possibly also exchange blood? there was that whole scene with the Octopus after all....
I also commented under the other person but as an answer to you, yes they go through censorship. Easiest way to think of it is (and I'm making up these numbers COMPLETELY)... If they know Speed and Love will get 40 million views per episode and this drama will get 1 million views per episode they will be looking closer as Speed and Love to censor that... Now there's nothing technically STOPPING this from getting 40 million views per episode and throwing it into a "Wait! why can they show THIS but the other sho CAN'T" question to a larger audience.... it's just less likely to happen. This is 'generally' why short dramas are spicier than full dramas who's actors have more eyes on them and have to deal with additional issues that come with that fame like 'morality' contracts for sponsors etc.
The short series same as normal ones do need to pass the censorship. As for vertical not sure if things changed…
Vertical Dramas are dramas that go through censorship but I can see why you might question it 🤣 - that is if they are ACTUAL dramas released through a platform and not some teenager holding a camera doing a skit (this is especially true after issues raised with some of the content that had been being made in 2023-24 as they started taking off more) - they even have ones sponsored by the cultural committees and tourism boards.
What the 'general' view is now is that the more 'popular' something is supposed to be (the more eyes it will immediately reach), or the more it is tied to a specific message (such as a cultural heritage or such) THESE are things that get looked at more closely than others... The more popular the higher the standards for actors etc. But also, things that used to be an issue a few years ago just aren't an issue any longer as time passes - for instance shows that that now show a lead staying in the book/dream etc are becoming allowed to be shown If you end up watching enough vertical dramas you'll end up seeing ones that have used their licensing board stamp number logo thing (idk what to call that red screen that normally plays at the beginning of the drama that says when it was licensed 😅) as a watermark that will show up periodically on the screen corner 🤣
I about had an aneurysm hearing it as I've had this song on my Playlist since it came out but never in a million years would have figured it'd be a drama opening 🤣
What the story between the male lead and the female lead I’m confused
To expand a small bit on the previous answer: She is the legitimate main wife of the ML. What the scope of her actual role within the drama will be is semi-unclear as there isn't much actual historical texts surrounding her beyond things about her brother/family and mentions of her intelligence so much of whatever will written about her and her contributions to the storyline will actually be made-up from what I've been reading.
Watched this for Wang Pei Yan as I like him enough to rewatch this story even though it's not my favorite. This version has 'slightly' more intimacy than other versions which are practically clean and has ML being a pouty love-brain more than the usual 'henpecked husband'. The FL is also shown to be less conniving in this one, there are other versions where she is almost flat out viscious in her schemes.
Truly loved this one. The Tyrant Emperor was truly a tryant... killing or having people's tongues cut out at whim. What's even better though is the FL matches his crazy and together they have fun watching mansions burn and people kill each other in front of them to avoid being killed instead 🤣. Biggest 'negative' is that the plot is indeed very loose and so you just have to nod your head as a lot of it happens; but it was so cute it got a pass in my book.
