I'm MangoTree. (米慧笑 (Mǐ huì xiào)) I watch Chinese dramas to improve my Mandarin comprehension. I've been studying Chinese for nearly 3 years. My first 2 years of studying (which I started in Sept 2022) were for my Chinese language elective at school. At that time, I was just an developing HSK 1 student with horrible listening comprehension, ok speaking, and decent reading skills. On the third year (aka this year), I had to move countries (born in Boston and spent the vast majority of my life in Seattle to UAE), so Mandarin was no longer an in-school option. At this time, I had already watched my first cdrama, Who Rules the World (on Netflix), and loved it. [Dramas I watched before I really "got into" MDL]. I thought what better way to continue studying than watching Cdramas? So, I began watching dramas more. Few months later (aka September 2024), I discovered MDL. In December (2024) -January (2025)-ish, I learned how to use MDL, so here I am! I highly recommend learning Chinese using dramas, especially after spending a bunch of time on the basics and "textbook Mandarin". Since starting watching cdramas, my Chinese learning has skyrocketed. Now, my listening comprehension is my best skill, my accent has improved, and my reading is really good (cause I made flashcards for all the words I learned). 	Type of Watcher: Relaxed Binge-Watcher (basically someone who takes their time to watch, but if they skip more than a week of watching, it is really difficult to get back in the flow)
	MBTI Personality Type: INTJ - A ~Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging, and Assertive~ (yes, I am an INTJ woman. 1-2% of women have this type. But, I can assure you, I do have feelings--though suppressed-- and I am not evil. Mostly😉) I am extremely confident and highly opiniated. My favorite kind of people are those who disagree with me, using reasoning to support their ideas.
Type of Dropper: I will drop if the drama gets boring or insufferable. I might even give it a few episodes to redeem itself, but if it fails, I will leave with no looking back. I tend to give about 5-10 episodes before leaving. (but not if the drama was so unbearable that I had to leave before then) In 2024, I would drop dramas randomly. Since it is 2025, I now always write a review (unless I couldn't even get through the first 10 episodes)
What I do when not watching dramas: - Reading (any genre really), but I love Asian (especially Chinese) Literature. Also, I divide each point into four (5.00, 5.25, 5.50, 5.75) See real ratings here. - 8.50 and above are definitely recommended. 7.75-8.25 are casually recommended. 7.00-7.50 depends on your taste. 6.50 and below are not recommended no matter what your taste is (basically objectively bad). - If a drama has a great ending and the first several episodes were meh, I'll end up reviewing it higher. Like, if the first half was ok ish, but the second half was the bomb, it will definitely be rated real high. - If one important aspect is done "ok" (eg romance, character development, plot), than I'll still rate it high-ish, if I felt that the drama was still good. 3/2/2025 update: From today onwards, whenever I will change a rating on my reviews, I'll rate the past one as well to document my past feelings as well.

Romance Yes, but too much is a problem. There should be good chemistry and kisses, but at the same time, it's no fun if its only romance. Both leads need to have a life outside of their romantic relationship.	Youth Please, no horrible, conniving 2nd leads or second lead syndrome. Also, do time skips well; don't jump around the timeline like an idiot
Life But don't make it so slow. Don't waste my time. Make a point, send it home, and then end the drama.	Business Yes, but no obvious plot holes. Also, don't let romance steal the show and ruin a perfectly good drama. But then again, don't bore as either.
Sports We must see the characters' progress in the sport. It shouldn't be awfully overshadowed by romance and scheming.	Comedy (occasionally) I like it in small doses. Also, the comedic effect must be done in an intelligent and genuinely houmous way. If not, it feels like watching an middle school movie making project
