I already finished the first two episodes. With two episodes being dropped at once, it will only take five weeks to finish the drama which isn't in my book but fine.

My advice: Don't take the plot seriously. Just consider it a fun, brainless show to watch when you need a good laugh. I literally laughed at the end of ep 2 from all of the absurdities.

Plot development? What is that? The writing feels like it belongs in a YouTube web series, only difference is that the production has higher quality. We aren't given a proper introduction to any of the characters. The one female antagonist shown in the trailer sways into the office, throws money into the air, forces Lee Chaeha to pick them up and spills water over his head. 👏 Amazing! Soap opera villain right out the gate. None but one of his co-workers come to help. It's obvious he is unpopular. As for Prosecutor Ju, he is a person most people despise. "A psycho" as Chaeha's co-worker says it.

I feel the need to mention about that opening. The editing reminds me of those in Indian dramas and that speaks a lot. Despite the AI warning, I still find their usage a bit too much. That shot of the two of them sitting while facing the camera? If I don't know better, I would've thought they are AI.

Ep 2 is no better, just funnier. The scene where an old woman barges into Tae Seon's office and cries about her son not intending to murder anyone. Where the heck is the context LMAO. The Russian man's murder case has yet to be solved and we are already introduced to another random murder case. Clearly this won't affect the plot in the slightest. It only exists just so Tae Seon can look more ruthless and "upright". Not to mention that people seem to be going in and out of any room in that building with ease. Is there no security officer? 🙄

The episode ends with Tae Seon forcefully kissing Chaeha not once but TWICE. He boldly declares that because Chaeha is a murderer's son, he shall accept whatever Tae Seon does to him. WOO HOO! Don't we all love a domineering CEO - style love declaration?

Anyway, I have a lot of fun. Can't wait for eps 3&4.

Mokudai Kazuto looks so good in blonde hair! I am very excited for this drama.

My problem with this drama is that the synopsis as you can see above, promises one thing yet the drama shows another thing. I watched this drama, expecting Yuma and Itsuki's story to be at the forefront of this show. I want to know why they break up, what was their relationship like before, how did they fall in love, how did they meet. The drama shows none of that.

While the subplot (or rather the MAIN plot) involving Kayano Shiho adds nuance and depth to the series, it detracts from Yuma and Itsuki's storyline. Like other comments have pointed out, 6 eps are way too short to discuss all these secondary stuff. If they want to go this route, they should have make it a 12-eps drama the way Thai and Chinese BLs do. This is why the drama fails whereas other Japanese BLs succeed. Other J-BLs which have 8 eps focus entirely on the main couple's story. While they still incorporate themes like generational trauma, family disputes, and homophobia, the creators never let them overshadow the primary love story.

The Guy and I Who Will Break Up in 100 Days seems more concerned with showing how people react to the revelation of their breakup rather than letting us viewers understand how they get there in the first place. For us to empathize and connect with these characters in the present, we need to know what happens in the past. The show doesn't do that. It is all tell, not show. We hear Itsuki and Yuma saying all these cryptic remarks yet there is not a single flashback showing us what they mean. This is not a psychological thriller aims at keeping you guessing until the end. We already know these two guys aren't together anymore. What we need to know is the reasons their relationship become the way they are.

The showrunners really say "Let's adapt a queer story by a queer author and push the main plot to the sideline. We should change this into the story of how a young spirited journalist faces sexism and deals with the challenges of being a woman in 21st century Japan."

This is the only reason lol. If someone who has been staying at my house and eats my food pulls off that kind of "I am above thou" stunt, I will throw their things out onto the street.

In contrast, Ep1 is the best episode for me. Sure, that is the fake version that the documentary makers want to show the audience. But at least the characters behave like decent human beings.

You're not wrong. This barely feels like Kasuga and Itsuki's story anymore. And when this kind of thing happens, it means the show fails at what it supposedly sets out to do.

"Finally, while the issues the side story involving the documentary director's struggle with sexism and male jerks is totally worthy of focus, this is the wrong place for it. In a short drama, there's barely enough time to cover the MC, let alone all this secondary stuff."

PREACHH. This is what I currently feel toward this drama. I have high hopes after the first two episodes but the writing have disappointed me so much. The show creators wanted to do so many things in such a short time. With only two episodes left, we still have no idea what the hell happens to their relationship. The scenes given to Shiho should have been used to showcase the events leading up to their breakup. Where are the flashbacks?? Where are the Oscar-winning arguments???

And yes, I agree that Itsuki is very unlikable. I have yet to see anything about him that makes him any bit sympathetic. He just sounds so entitled and looks down on everyone.

You describe it perfectly. This is not a drama that you can play in the background while doing chores. It actually makes you THINK and understand these characters.

Haha I guess grumpiness is just one of his personality traits. But in the context of this story, his hostility towards Yuma most likely stemmed from long-held resentments and insecurities that only resurface after their breakup.

For someone who has taken care of himself for years, relying on another person for food and lodging must have been humiliating. Especially if that person is your ex. Itsuki can never truly break things off with Yuma because he literally cannot survive without him.

Personally, I am fine with 6 eps. It's the duration that I have problem with. When the writing is complex and layered, 24 mins are way too short.

30-35 mins would have been better, I think.

True, but surely they have other things to talk about beside love. By specifically mentioning "love", he narrowed down the scope of women's interests to only be about love, family, etc.

As of now, I will give a 7.9 or 8. To be honest, 24 minutes feel a tad bit too short considering how complex and nuanced the writing is.

Especially since the drama is not just about Itsuki and Yuma. The documentary maker Shiho is also given her own storyline, as we can see from her conversation with Naomi in the kitchen. Her subplot is not badly written but...I kind of feel that it will end up being underdeveloped.

If I am not mistaken, in the novel, the two do date again but long after the documentary ends. We will see if they retain that ending.

On MDL, everything is just a joke. I learnt to stop taking MDL ratings seriously long ago.

Shiho's boss feels so infuriating because people like him exist in real-life. Traditional, sexist, and narrow-minded. When he said "You deserve more times to talk about love" or something like that to Shiho and Naomi, I cringed.

I thought it was genius that the production team showed us the "finished product" aka the documentary in ep 1 before switching to the actual interactions between the characters off-camera in ep 2. By putting us in the same position as the in-universe viewers, we get to see the documentary from two perspectives.

First, as the in-universe audience who has no idea about their breakup. Itsuki's straightforward responses and reserved body language seems like a personality quirk to the unknowing eyes. People in that world see an opposites attract couple: the sunny and bright Kasuga with his introverted, quiet partner Itsuki.

Second, as the real-world audience who are already aware of the main plot. We recognise Itsuki's hostility and coldness towards Kasuga. Every micro-expression he does carries a lot of meaning, showing things aren't as perfect as they seem.

Anyway, excited for ep 3!

Your assumption is correct. This entire drama is packed with metaphors, symbolisms and subtexts. I rewatched the first episode and noticed so many things that I didn't during my first watch. This drama is never intended to be a comfort watch; it is a brilliant character study.

People expecting to see romance and comedy are just wasting this time really.

Ignore that person. Users like them make platforms like MDL too toxic to use at times.
