What do you mean by "manipulative shows"? And can you say more about what you mean by "That's a clever and legit…
I actually don't see the ML as a flawed ML at least any more that the FL is. I think the show is hinting that we are not seeing the full picture about he ML. Okay, that's it. I can't believe I wrote this much about a show especially one that doesn't have a lot of depth at the moment.
PS. I skipped over your other question about manipulative shows. I don't spend that much time writing on this platform so I responded to the questions about this show only.

First off, I'm not emotionally attached to the characters and don't feel anyway about the relationships being unjust because I clued in that this has Makjang/soapy elements signalled by few things. The controversial finger at the beginning, the chief of staff guy role, the subtle suggestive relationship with the head of his protection staff, the over the top acting at times between the leads all signalled to me that it's a show that I have to turn by brain off and give some emotional distance to. That is how I began to enjoy what it was doing. The dominant/sub relationship between the leads is hinted at and I like it for what it is. The reason I think it's legit (for the role) is that I can explain it. He literally orders people around and controls situations for a living. This contrasts to the FL who is extremely submissive -- I would not put this as being due to different ability or not. At least that is what I see and first glance and it works for me as legit for the trope under the circumstance and I enjoy it. I don't put all the onus on the ML for the dynamics. I have a sense that the FL also contributed to this in her very submissive ways - she is acting out a role by her family situation equally as the ML is. They are both molded by their situation. Not like other shows where this trope is put into play and and then there is (as you say) some background story that excuses the behavior. I actually find this too be frustrating that this is often used as if all people who experienced this situations end up with a lack of empathy. If fact, I think it can move a person toward being empathetic and thoughtful even if the belief system of the family is to treat people like trash -- this is what is going on with this ML and I like it. In past shows the miscommunication always seems contrived and I would be like, at this point, would you actually explain yourself to the other person? I think there is more back story to come which will make sense and I have a sense that it will be satisfying. Despite all that I have written, I don't think a person abuse another person. I also don't think this is the story the show is trying to tell.
Wow. When I first saw the poster three weeks ago, I was like, no, not another mature couple thriller like The World of the Married. I don't really like these manipulative shows anymore. They are young too young to pull this off. Then, I was like, ah damn. I need somethnig to watch. People genuinely seem to like it. Let me check it out. Then, I was like, WHAT!! Now that's a clever and legit use of the cold domineering ceo trope and miscommunication as plot device. I'm here for this. It's been a while since I have been truly entertained by a Kdrama romance.
This was filmed with good cameras. Cinematography looks better than any typical jdrama, which looks like it was…
I don't think that's necessarilty true, not to say that they can't have a good script. However, this show to me is not better than other japanese dramas which you say looks like they are made on phones, which is silly, since the general style goes back to before filming on phones was possible. Anyway, to each his own. Thanks for the convo.

what about great production values but a bloated script and mediocre actors? would you call that low quality and 99% bad? when i compare both, i would take a good story and committed actors over pretty anyday.
how did i recognize the name of a character from a drama from 13 years ago in a drama from aanother country made almost a decade later just by the name of the character which wasn't even clear? i'm so impressed by the legacy of the drama, but more so, the character/actor.
8.6 is criminally overrated for this drama. so misleading. i think this is the second drama -- i've seen a lot -- that i feel suffocated by the endless talking about what happened and what is going to happen.
Wish I hadn't followed subreddit comments and come back to this drama. I initially dropped it a episode 1 and started at 2 this time. I think episode 1 would have reminded me that the show was iffy if I had gone back to the start (sigh).
This is just a gut feeling, but the production is sus another set up to milk previous productions and provide opportunities for rookies/idols. Had this same thought with a few other dramas when veteran actors don't seem to give enough prep for roles often repeating aspects of previous characters which has been a huge turn off. For anyone ready to chew me out, I'm not saying this is true, just saying that the production seems like this and this is a turn off.

Overall, frustrated by the overwhelming amount of talent on the show that didn't do it for me and the oveuse of misdirecting the viewer's gaze, epecially by infantalizing the fl, that kept the plot spinning on its wheels.
Anyone here who is not a Park Shin Hye fan and can give an relative unbiased feedback if her acting is good in…
I feel she's a good physical actor, so she is pretty alright in this kind of comedy. I do appreciate her effort and I think she loves doing this. I think the behind the camera work and pacing helps with the vibrancy of what you see on screen too. As for more nuanced acting, I still cannot. Every time (every show) I see her do her face thing and drop into her weight to show complex emotion,I just want to ff. I would have loved to have seen Jung So-min here, tbh. I keep thinking she would have totally killed this role after her go at AoS.
I'm really struggling to make it through this seeason. The constant messaging about serving the state and the people is too much. It could have been handled with more refinement. It takes away so much from the story for me.
