I'm on episode 4 and it has been so meh for me. Will it pick up or it remains slow and flat?

I only have one question before starting this drama. Does it have a sad ending? I really need a pick-me-up dramas/movies right now. Thanks

What happened to the rulers of the States? Did Huang Chao eliminate the State rulers? If not, did it say in the novel who ended up ruling the States of Lanxi, Xiyun and Huang Chao? Ending was kinda rushed.

I agree with what had been already said. There is no forgiven and no atone, IMO, in this drama. ZZS put a time bomb in him - 3 years to be carefree, to wander around and to wait for death - along the way he thought by doing good deeds, he at least could help lessen his crimes in hell. KWX set up the whole scheme for revenge and to destroy the Ghost Valley. He knew his plan would result in his death and he was fine with it. Here is a link to an article about the show. Some of the best novels have the saddest endings or have a beloved characters killed and that is ok. J.K. Rowling killed one of the Weasley's twin and I remembered the exact emotion I felt reading that part. She stood by her reason for killing him and as much as I hate it, I understood reasons behind it. What I am trying to say it that this drama is an original therefore the screenwriter had control over the story. If she wanted a tragic ending and filmed it as such then so it be. It was filmed 3 years ago and now in a recent interview, she backtracked and said there would be a "happier ending." That I don't agree with. Nevertheless, I'm current watching it and liking it so far.

As long as the drama shows a loving and a healthy relationship, I'm on board with it. My still most favorite couple is Xiaolongnü & Yang Guo (The Return of the Condo Hereos) - she was his shifu and I believe a lot older than him. WoH made the Scorpion King character more "lovable" than that in the novel, IMO, hence, I want him to be with someone better than Zhao Jing. I know I'm twisted in some sense.
