A 2013 anonymous post has additionally resurfaced because its writer described having a controversial physician great-grandfather, leading some to speculate that the author could have been Ha Young or a relative, though this has never been confirmed. Finally, a 2025 television appearance drew renewed attention after Ha Young showed her family's home and mentioned having four refrigerators, saying that food was sometimes left uneaten until it went bad. Taken together, these details have intensified public interest in her family's history and wealth. If Ha Young and her family genuinely didn't know about any of those things, then I think this also highlights how easily people from privileged backgrounds can become disconnected from what their families did in the past. They can continue living comfortably and benefiting from inherited wealth while some of the people their families harmed, and their descendants, are still struggling. Of course, life has to move forward, and people shouldn't be punished for the actions of their ancestors. The blame shouldn't be placed on the wrong people. But it's still sad to think that while some families are able to live comfortably because of what their ancestors left behind, others are still living with the consequences and trauma. Even I, coming from n ordinary family background, have always been interested in learning more about my family's history and understanding where my family came from and what their lives were like. I think knowing our history, including the uncomfortable parts, is important.

I don't know if people are genuinely being insensitive or simply don't want to hold their faves accountable. Ha Young's great-grandfather was pro-Japanese and committed cruel acts by exploiting and hurting people. He was deeply attached to Japanese culture, had little connection to Korean culture, and benefited from people's suffering while collaborating with the Japanese colonial authorities.
Of course, being descended from someone like that doesn't determine who Ha Young is as a person. She's several generations removed from him, and in a society that continues to evolve, it's important to allow people to move forward rather than permanently punish them for the actions of their ancestors. However, we also have to remain sensitive to the history and understand why people can still be hurt by these things. World War II and Japanese colonial rule aren't some distant events from ancient history. Victims are still alive, and their families continue to carry that pain. That's why openly boasting about having such a family background, especially given what her great-grandfather did, can understandably come across as extremely insensitive. Since she was asked about her family, she could have given a more vague answer rather than presenting it in a way that sounded like she was proud of or supportive of what he represented. I've also seen people defend her by saying that perhaps she didn't know and that her family concealed the truth from her. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced by that explanation. Even if she genuinely wasn't aware before, her great-grandfather was a historical figure, and nowadays it's relatively easy to find information with a simple search. Her company attempting to conceal the truth afterward also wasn't a good way of handling the situation. At this point, I think the best thing she can do is give an honest and genuine apology to the people who were hurt by this, and then let her actions moving forward speak for themselves.
And please, I don't want to hear the usual "netizens are just toxic" or "this is only happening because she's a woman" arguments. Sometimes criticism is legitimate, and automatically dismissing it just because it's directed at someone's fave doesn't help anyone.

Since dramas are meant for entertainment, it's great that you enjoyed it from start to finish, but everyone has a different viewing experience, and that's completely fine.
