He definitely will, I’m just not sure if he will change enough for my liking or if he will stay a fuck up to an extent but just framed as a “lovable goofball”, and I’m 100% there will be no accountability for his past actions so I’m not sure if it will be satisfying for me, will still check back at the end though

Idk maybe we can only agree to disagree, I think that is the intent, the text, the way that we're supposed to think that Chai An is a good guy that just wants to help, but the subtext that I saw is that his behavior says otherwise. I don't mind the little teasing between Chai An and Kang ning like their competition on the business, but some of his actions that are brushed off just makes him look awful to me, especially annoying because they are just brushed off by the story

I disagree, I think he seems to generally look down on woman to an extent, Kang ning is just an exception (eg he treats 2nd sister kind of badly & condescendingly). Maybe it's not the intention of the writer as he's supposed to be a righteous upright character but he certainly comes off badly to a lot of viewers, which is why I said it might be the writer's own biases subconsciously coming through to the script. It does happen in a lot of dramas, but this one the disconnect between the action and the framing is particularly egregious to me for some reason

I think it seems kind of malicious in a condescending way to me, but I blame the writers really, probably his own misogynistic tendencies coming through. I don't even know why it bugs me so much here when it happens quite a lot in cdramas where MLs do fucked up things, but i think it's just the way the story frames is as we're supposed to find it funny and likable? also because the series could have been so good without these stupid choices

I think that kidnapping part just disturbs me way too much especially because of the flippant way the story takes it (not addressing how fucked up it is, making a "joke" out of it) and I can't just ignore it personally so we're already coming from two different places here when it comes to ML. I respect and understand, even jealous that you can just not take it to heart because I also want to enjoy this drama (I love the girls and their relationship) So we're probably not going to ever agree on whether he's justified at being upset at FL. Hopefully the way they redeemed him in the next episodes is so well done that I can just forget about this stupid detail they put in but for now I'm still dropping the series and thinking all MLs are just different levels of horrible

nah I don't think she owes ML much they barely know each other, especially with his behavior so far, showing he mostly always puts his family's interest over hers

I might already be uncharitable towards him since I really don't like some of his previous actions(especially prolonging her and 2nd sister kidnapping, even if FL figured it out the intent is still awful) but I think she doesn't really owe him anything, they've barely started to know each other, and I don't think he's given her much reason to trust him so far with his behavior always putting his own and his cousin's interest above her family's, which is understandable, but also doesn't help with her having trust in him (I admit I might be overanalyzing here lol I'm just really annoyed the writing of ML character)

Idk I don’t feel bad for him, I think it should be obvious that his mom who is so against kangning had bullied and insulted her resulting in the refusal, and he has the nerve to be mad AT her?! Like he’s supposed to be a smart charcter so maybe think about it a bit 🤷‍♀️

(I guess it could be the case that he’s biased as a child and thought his mom is so virtuous that even if she dislikes kangning she’ll act nice and fair? Still stupid and still mad at him for being mad at her even thinking about it for one second)

I don’t like reading my native language translation, it’s usually cringey and I’m sure a lot will be lost in translation, I’d rather keep trying the english until I get through it, and well at least pride &prejudice is still somewhat understandable compared to shakespeare

Huh, you might be right about the acting thing, actually, but if so the scene really is executed terribly. About the educating thing I agree but still don’t like the way it’s executed, and also it seems this only applies to the husband not chai an even though I’d argue he’s also trashy just in a different less apparent way

I never actually read the novel to the end but from what I’ve seen/ heard around I thought he does kinda look down on the Benner sisters and mothers not for being women but for being generally rude? Although you are right that he has never been anywhere near this level of terrible 😭 the ML just seems like a similar type at the very beginning but obviously not anymore

Don’t get me started on that, the way he immediately sincerely confessed right after doing whatever that was and after being generally kinda terrible so far gave me whiplash, it feels so out of character, the moment doesn’t feel earned at all
