Okay the 3rd and 4th episode has def improved my opinion of this show, I'm loving the love-hate chemistry between these two, I just hope they don't mess it up by suddenly making them go insta-love on each other. Also, I hope they don't do the trope twist of guess what, he was human once, like they did in Angel's Last Mission. I hate that trope, it's such a cop-out
Do you mind providing me a spoiler - is Duanmu the woman who rejected him and why is she gone?
Duanmu is the woman he loved and became an immortal for. It was completely one sided on his part, she only saw him as a friend and yeah basically said she didn't see him like that, and she falls in love with a mortal instead. In essence she 'died' but she's not 'dead', after the immortal guy went to kill Weng Gu and she stepped in front of him and got stabbed instead.
I'm frustrated with the way they're playing out Weng Gu's character. I hate that he's supposed to be this kind, gentle immortal, but they make him an obsessive, domineering prick, and now this woman who's rejected him is gone, he's gonna become evil. It feels like such a cop out. I think I would've preferred a strong, platonically loyal friendship with FL, and focused on his slow descension into demoness by focusing on his kindness and juxtaposing it against the heavenly realm and how the overly pretencious high opinion these immortals have of themselves, creates evil instead of doing good in the world.
No eng sub yet, but it's on iqiyi, which means their English site might have it up in the next year. For now, here's raw version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubkepX_63Y4
