no this drama is the kind of entertaining for us to watch, it still have substantial plot but not that deep, both ML and FL are smart, sweet cute couples to watch also the supporting actors are fun to watch too, this is what makes this drama is special. it knows its direction. maybe slow for some ppl who likes heavy deep plot, as I dont expect it from the start, this drama is so enjoyable for me to watch, no boring episodes for me also, I binged watched it in 3 days and wish for more when it ends. both leads are my first time watching them as main leads except for wang chu ran, watched her in fireworks in my heart but had to drop it bcause of her character and acting in that drama, I dislike her so much then BUT now I’m so impressed with her performance in this drama. I’m now both of zhang wan yi and wang chu ran biggest fan now lol

this is not angsty drama, maybe abit in the middle, its not light romance also, its a sweet romance between husband and wife… ML character is supposed to be cold, smart and ruthless prior to meet the FL, in front of FL he’s slowly becoming the opposite when he starts fall in love with her… this is why maybe it says twisted.
He’s helpless in front of his wife lol, this is the reason why this drama is fun to watch… lol
I personally have enjoyed watching it so much, the more I repeat watching the drama the more I like it better and better each time. fantastic superb chemistry between ML and FL, even side couples are great to watch too. story plot is light so don’t expect heavy plot like the double or joy of life 2.
best 2024 drama for me personally.

ohh seriously? no wonder lol, I’m doing the math here when watching this, she’s the younger sister of jiang li’s step mother and yet she’s the beloved concubine’s emperor who’s the same age as duke su. ok that makes sense, though its feel weird to marry his father’s wife? lol

oh personally I dont mind it, wu jin yan also can perform as 20ish characters also with the right make up like in the double, but in some scenes she looks tired and starting to look not that youthful anymore.
I watched royal rumours also, jeremy also a mature actors, maybe it suits more if jeremy is pairs with wu jin yan. all I’m saying wu jin yan looks much older than wang xing yue.
I like wang xing yue pairing with zhou ye in scent of time, they are perfect combination, eventhough zhou ye is also still older than wang xing yue.
zhao liying, wu jin yan, even yang mi are still good actress to play younger characters because they have cute small face features, but for me it depends on who are their male co leads, actors like jeremy tsui, allen ren jia lun, mark chao, william chan, johnny huang, zhang han, are all have similar younger older age.
again I rate double as 10/10 in terms of story plot, chemistry, story characters, production. its well made that these 2 actors still can have great chemistry despite their age gap. it just something that I prefer personally but doesnt stop me from watching it if its really really good like the double. otherwise I prefer not to watch it.

omg, its all come down to each personal preference, dont try to force what u think is right in your normal mind to other people. for me yes it bothers me, though I admit the their perfomance is good and I have no complaint about the drama, otherwise I would not complete it to the end, pls respect other people opinion as this place is a place for ppl to voice out their opinion. if u only want to read what you think is right in your brain then move away dont come and attack other ppl for voice out their opinion. this is my opinion the look between the emperor and his concubine is more like a mother and son rather than husband and wife. as for the main leads I never says that I dont like their performance, they have good chemistry yes, both are excellent actors and can pull it off somehow, I have seen watch many of their dramas and how good their dramas are. nice to know that you if you are a guy, I wish you well to be with someone as old as your auntie age and if you are a woman, I wish you will be with a guy who is as young as your nephew.

I may add another one for xu kai, arsenal military academy with bai lu who’s 1 year older than him, they still look good together bcause they around the same age and also ancient love poetry the FL is about 3 years older than him, but he acts as her senior but still quite fitting bcause only 3 yrs old gap.
agree except she and her perfect husband where in the drama it has tagged older woman/ younger man so its still appropriate eventhough their age gap is about 8/9 yrs old.
here the emperor and the concubine, duke su and jiang li both FL are 12 years older than the ML lol come on, its hard not to notice, personally it gives me icky feeling, I’m sorry its hard for me to ignore the facts but I have to agree its still a very good drama. but if they create another drama with these 2 unless its really2 good I would have to skip it.

I dont say she looks old, I say she starting to look old, you can see it in the drama with all her heavy make up, it doesnt look natural, but I should compliment the make up artist, in some parts it looks good,in some it still cant conceal her age anyway. its natural she’s already almost mid 30 not early 30. all her other co star are younger than her.

Its no problem for much older guy to star with much younger female actress, many of cdrama nowadays have young king, young emperors and its so refreshing to see like the emperor here in the double, but do u see her concubine? honestly when the 1st time I saw them together in the same frame, I swear I thought she was his mother lol, turns out the emperor is 28 yo and his concubine is 41 yo 😂😂. does it look realistic? not to me.

I also like her in story of yanxi palace (2018) with Nie yuan as the ML, she also plays strong smart female lead character there, I dont say that she’s not pretty but, her ML was older than her so I think they both suits each other well.
the 2 dramas you mentioned has ML older or around the same age as her, so I believe she would be great paired with lin geng xin and johnny huang.
Wang xing yue is 12 years old younger than her, I just think she’s much older than him…I maybe bias but I can see the age gap between them.
she’s a great actress who can perform well no doubt.

she looks tired and is not energetic as wang chu ran who looks bright, shining and beautiful.
for someone who’s being chased by so many guys, duke su, shen yu rong, ye shi jie and her ex fiance is unbelievable to me, especially when compared to jiang ruo yang lol she’s much prettier than jiang li, her fiance who’s a playboy with no brain likes jiang li more than her current fiance based on looks? 😅 they should find someone prettier than jiang ru yao to play jiang li.. lol

FL is much older than the rest of the casts, quite bothering me also while I thought the drama is really good, the age gap between the main leads are too far 12 years old differences. yu zheng the producer likes to give wu jin yan strong, smart female character as if like there’s no other female character to fill in this type of character. he’s even now promising to give another role for her and wang xing yue. 😂 given the success of this drama.
she already starts to look old now no matter how good the make up artists try to conceal it.

I heard when this drama was shoot, wang chu ran was at the same time facing scandal problems with yang yang bcause of fireworks in my heart disappointing so many people because of her and yang yang acting. I feel that she has improved her acting skill greatly despite of the pressure against her at that time.
I agree with you about zhang wan yi performance in this drama is phenomenal with his micro expressions and he suits this drama perfectly. this drama gained 8.0 rating on douban which is considered excellent already bcause chinese viewers have high standards for their dramas.
this drama has successfully satisfy the chinese drama viewers domestically and internationally. Its quite a rare achievement for an underrated chinese drama like this.
both lead actors and all supporting actors are doing excellent job in this drama.

she faked her marriage and pretended to be kidnapped by the bandit because she wants to be free and independent (revealed in ep 30), she doesnt believe marriage is the only way for woman to be happy…
she fell in love with ziyu before when she was still in yang mountain but broke up with him bcause of yun niang ( the evil girl who likes ziyu also ) and also because she realise they have different path the moment he decides to ally with lord sui.
she was the leader of the “bandit” with the actual purpose of helping the poor people.
she crossed path with ziyu when she was roaming in mountain as the “bandit leader”

there’s nothing wrong with simple even cliche dramas, as long as we enjoy watching it.
I suggest you try to watch the drama first rather than judging it before you even watch it. if you dont like it drop it anytime u like, surely there’s no drama that can fit everyone taste.
yes this is not a heavy plot drama, its light sweet romantic and comedy drama. its well executed in all aspects except for the cliche plot like u say but then I havent find a similar plot drama like this before, infact I’m trying to find similar drama like this, can u recommend me another drama like this? coz I have difficulty moving on from this drama :(

yes, I myself have completed this drama and enjoyed it immensely, the main couple chemistry even the sides couple are fun to watch too, chemistry with all the couples are all excellent, especially the main couple, this is the first chinese drama I watch that has a very satisfying ending and doesnt feel like its end abruptly, very rare in chinese drama. the comedy part is well executed too, I dont expect anything when starting this drama, this drama is entertaining for me, from beginning to end even without heavy plot like the double. between this and the double I like this drama more, even though I admit the double has more substantial plot than are you the one. I dont like the main couple cast in the double, FL is too much older than the ML, even though they have good chemistry too.

did u watch the anime cartoon version of the ending? its HQ voice concluding her journey with the 3 men and what her future is now. she said zhong xi wu is the only one who accepts her shortcomings and thats true love is.


to think that this crucial important message of the drama would be told in cartoon anime version is pure stupid part of the director/producer.

I have to agree, it’s understandable many ppl now has many pro n con views about the story plot.

the main story itself (different from the novel) is not told properly through the drama. hence some get the message some dont, insisting that ep 29 is should be the ending of the story which for me who has seen bts interview, its only ep 30 that makes sense.

thats why the lacking of WZX screen time is crucial because he lacks of character development here since he is the ML of the drama, not properly developing the story plot of the drama.

I got it watching 28 episodes feel like been cheated since its only a dream. well thats what the drama is about. cheating us of our feeling ? 🤷‍♀️yes for those who dont like the ending in ep 30

“he blackmailed her” is never actually happened in her reality. its her dream and her one sided story. u make a worse judge if u just believe in one side story without knowing what the other side version is.

the producers change the theme of the story, it completely 2 different scenarios, ending with hrz can not be applied because it doesnt make sense and doesnt support the true message meaning of the story, not a chance to redeem herself but a person has to take responsibility for what they did wrong in the past, regret it and change into a better person.

beginning is different from the novel, ending automatically should be different from the novel. the producers are not obligated to exactly follow the novel 100%, otherwise no thrilling at all to find out the end of the game when its already known from the novel, where the excitement to find out how it will end if it has to follow the novel.
