Just wondering, why are they calling the women "prostitues" and not "geishas"?
Yep, nokaze's wardrobe is more flamboyant isn't it? leaving their occupation aside, I'm very attracted to Oiran's appearance because they're stunning!
Haha well, Geisha world is complex and there are many misconceptions as it is, but Arthur Golden has surely taken the whole situation to another level with his book becoming a bestseller and thus now it is pretty normal for people to take it as a quick reference xD
Btw, you might want to give a try to "Hana Ikusa", it is a 2 hr special drama based on the life of Mineko Iwasaki, the real life geisha who actually inspired "Memoirs of a Geisha", so you might say it is the real story behind Sayuri's character and the oher characters from the book/movie.
Though the drama is not entirely 100% accurate compared to Mineko's autobiography book, but it is still pretty much reliable to get a hold of what was supposedly really going on in there :P
Just wondering, why are they calling the women "prostitues" and not "geishas"?
Because they are not the same. The type of prostitutes ("yujo") that appear on this drama are called "Oiran" or "Tayu" and they are very different from "Geisha". Contrary to what many people tend to beleive Geisha's job was/is not involved in prostitution nor sexual activities on any way (yes, Memoirs of a Geisha is a big lie on many ways).
You can actually easily distinguish an Oiran from a Geisha just by their appearance: Their hair ornaments, the number and type of layers of their kimono, their footwear and maybe the most characteristic thing is the way they tie their kimono's obi (Oiran have a knot on the front while Geisha have it on the back).
I have not watched any of it but I guess I'll start with Tonbi, it has been on my list for a while! Then maybe Hanzawa Naoki and Kazoku Game. I'm not really sure about Legal High and Doctor X, don't seem very attractive to me.
whats the difference between the japanese and korean remake? why the korean ratings are so low while japanese…
Japanese version is perfect, the last episodes from second season are just wow... That being said, I have not watched Korean version but I guess I'll pass.
One of the things that made it so wonderful is the way they portray the 'traditional Japan' on such a relevant period that changed the country's history, I'm actually kind of curious to know how does the Korean version work on that aspect.
First: This was a pretty good drama despite its format (25min or so per ep. is just too short to get deep enough into each episode's story) PLUS, I get the feeling this is one of those dramas which are not exactly intended to become the "season's hit" nor a masterpiece from the very beginning but they are just using it as a tool to display the boys, satisfy the fans and fill in a TV slot, even then they managed to pull out quite a decent drama.
I like the whole Japanese music scene but above all I root for the rock scene, thus the thing I liked the most is that they actually went for a rock band with all that indies atmosphere instead of choosing a more 'idol-ish' band with flashy settings and 'prettier' looks if you know what I mean (which is the case of the 2nd season... I still like it though) And they did a decent job on that aspect, Takahiro was the most succesful on pulling out a rock musician mood and I find that somewhat refreshing for a Johnny's drama.
And lastly, why is everyone saying it is (or may be) a copy of 'Shut up flower boy'? honestly I have not seen it yet (only read the plot and watched some videos) but judging by it and my experience with Korean dramas I doubt they can pull the credible 'indies rock feeling' I was talking about. It may seem like an insignificant thing but beleive me, it can totally change the story's feeling.

Well I'm not on interiors but general architecture, I would love to study interiors though! they're so important and we usually don't think too much about them...
I'm from Mexico :) what do you mean with 'within the industry?' are you going to work for real on the field?

hello! thanks for the request :)
I see you watch plenty of drama genres and from different countries!
I'm also on its search. The 1st season made my cry so hard, for what I've read the sequel is not exactly 'sad' but I'm curious. If someone ever come across this let us know please xD

Hello! thanks for accepting the request ^^
I saw you at the "what major are you studying" thread and got a bit curious for sharing a bit of the same major :) Are you still in interiors?

I know what you mean, I've been stuck with 2nd season since it was first aired. Dropped it on episode 3 and I just got back to it these days, while I do like all those things you mention, something on the storyline is not working for me, suddenly I was surprised to notice I had even forgotten about Miki because they were not including her that much on this season. Now I'm on episode 8 but I still find it hard to end, I can't see where is it going at all D:

I don't remember that episode, but yes it was very awkward watching HER as a sister xD I do like her on the screen though.
Oh yes, all those titles have their American version right? have not seen any xD I used to be scared of them, well, actually I still am kind of, I'm too suggestive, but I do want to watch them :)
The drama is weird, but I've seen many Weird Japanese Dramas I've already got used to these... eccentricities¿?
I'm a woman and to be honest I have never been a fan of this type of approaching Japanese make to younger girls with a sweet image, but... I would say: If you are a man who like the type of "innocent, kawaii, etc" japanese girl (like idols) and like the review above says, sexual innuendo, then you must watch it. Otherwise... just have an open mind for weird things xD

Well to be honest, I love flowers and gardens... studied floral design and currently studying architecture highly interested on landscapes and gardens, thus I totally fell in love with Amami Yuki's character on Kekkon Shinai and the drama itself, but that's a pretty much subjective point of view, hence I don't know how much I would recommend it =P
On the other hand, I have no subjectivity towards the queen's classroom (except for Amami Yuki perhaps? haha) and I would totally recommend it to anyone! a pretty nice drama.
I have also seen "GOLD" and "Around 40", I liked them but I think they are on a lower level than those mentioned above.
I guess I'll give Onna Nobunaga a try, just 2 episodes? thought it was longer.
Will you watch her coming drama? I don't know... detective/police plot all over again, wouldn't mind if it turns as good as BOSS though.

Oh I've seen One Pound Gospel as well :) didn't like too much though... something between Kame and Meisa's chemistry just didn't fit for me, but it was funny watching him boxing.
I have not seen many horror movies... what about dramas? is there any horror drama you have seen and would recommend?
