Is it exasperating and makes you want to shake him and tell him to just yell "off with their heads?"? YES! But how would doing that make him any different than the other two (CX and XL)? TSH is his brother, and although that means nothing to Hou, it does to him, especially since they were so close as children. And then, there is the FF wench. She has made sure the grandmother thinks of her as indispensable and owes her a false debt for helping manage the household, for over 10 years, while his grandmother was possibly depressed because he was missing and she has succeeded. He needs to be careful or he will end up like the pariah instead of those two. He wants to be with XY and he cannot do that if his reputation is tarnished, although he seems to think he can as he said he would bear the responsibility, as she is back in her position as a princess. If they had never found him and she had never gone back to Haoling, and still back in the town, they could have lived happily without worries.

I think he thinks he's weak and won't be able to hold the throne. And honestly, in some ways he's right as he couldn't even stand there on his own, even being a prince of the kingdom. But to not even throw him a scrap so he can start, it's seriously messed up, as it would only have taken to summon him. The grandfather seemed salty, CX hadn't go see him. Exactly how could he have done that without XY if he never summons him?
