I think he thinks he's weak and won't be able to hold the throne. And honestly, in some ways he's right as he couldn't even stand there on his own, even being a prince of the kingdom. But to not even throw him a scrap so he can start, it's seriously messed up, as it would only have taken to summon him. The grandfather seemed salty, CX hadn't go see him. Exactly how could he have done that without XY if he never summons him?

I agree. AoS used a lot of the elements we tend to see in C-dramas and, for me, that's where the similarities end.
