In xianxia, sometimes the soul splits into parts. I assume half of JY went into FY after he fell off the cliff and the other half was roaming the world looking for XY. Hence why JY awakens when FY dies.

Taking a moment to praise Bai Luo for her crying scenes in this drama. From that powerful monologue at her father's tomb to today's scenes upon reuniting with her sister and crying at episode's end. It was very well done, the emotion bleeds through👍🏻
