He’s gone from Zero to I’ve never had these feelings before!
Yeah he has and the transition was too quick for me given the kind of drama we have here. Like it's not the typical idol drama where you are anticipating the clichéd scenes.

If it was the Lin family facing difficulties the Shen family would have also broken the engagement. Everyone is…
Yes we don't know but the fact that they didn't rush to have it annulled on their side shows that they value the promises they make and aren't willing to compromise given a change in circumstances as they were willing to die for their beliefs.

Xiuru looks very young to be getting married! I have to keep reminding myself that this is set in a different…
I kept thinking about that the whole time especially after they revealed his daughter's age, 11. If the second sister just recently had her coming of age that means she was around 15-18 and Xiuru is younger than her as she is 3rd in the family then, I was like that means his bride to be is only like 4-5 years older than his own daughter. And I was traumatized.

Title The Scandal
I am absolutely appreciating the comment section. I have noticed that with Korean dramas, the people here on this platform can fully express whether they were happy about the drama or not and whether the actors delivered or not. Try commenting on a cdrama my goodness, you are a hater, you are given all kinds of insults, it's like they can't separate the character from the actor/actress. Like for goodness sake this platform was made for praise and criticism. I say this because the actors here are literally veteran actors but people here are still sharing how disappointed they were about their deliverance of certain scenes and no one is going haywire on them for that and I truly appreciate that.

OKAY I KNOW THEY ARE ACTORS, but seeing Ji Chang Wook like this was honestly so shocking for me... I've honestly…
Lol 😂 same same. We are used to seeing him in those sweet romantic roles or running from his life from bad people but I guess this role shows he has range as an actor.

Hey FrankieD, I know we don't agree on this but I don't think the Shen family would do this. Unless the Lin family did something that was 100% deemed to be a crime like for example treason. And the reason I don't is because the Matriarch of the Shen family knew that something bad was going to happen to her family, although she thought only the older generation would be put to death, she still knew as evidenced by the poison she prepared while on the very same day our FL was expecting guests from the Lin family. Remember how our FL’s grandfather and father acted when they were called by the imperial guards? They sat as if they were expecting it and the grandpa even had a note on his desk and I don't know what it said word for word but I can infer that it was his last act of defiance like showing that he was not wrong and that he was prepared to die for his beliefs. Rather than the Lin family that made plans to avoid the Emperor's wrath and completely ignored the Shen family, not even warning them and chose to instead seek a marriage with the powerful Zhao family. Now you can argue that self preservation is not wrong but I think with both families' reaction to this matter, it shows a stark contrast in their family teachings and how they showed up in the officialdom world. And to me that makes the Lin family hypocrites for saying that about the Xie family.

Can’t wait when the slutty xiuwan is exposed for being the whore she is ……unless this matter get cover up…
She reminds me of Zhao Xingtang, the first madam. Seeing how that Qian guy abandoned her real quick and she didn't. She held him and took dabs from her dad and insisted that they punish her. The Qian guy, like Du Zheng, take advantage of them emotionally because they know these are ladies from prestigious families and they don't have the family backing to marry them so the first thing they try to do is take their innocence. For instance what almost happened in the cave. I think that's why Zhao Xingtang fell pregnant before marrying into Lin family, showing that she was very young when it happened just like Xiuwan. Poor ladies, for them these men are their first love but unfortunately they are using them.

Great veteran actor but he does play ruthless every single time lol
He was a sweet dad in Sword and Brocade but maybe not the best dad as he couldn't stand up to his bully wife. And a sweet official in New Life Begins.

First Madam handing the household tokens to a maid because apparently zero people in the Lin family can handle…
I can agree with the ML's feelings feeling a bit forced because it felt quite instant, him having feelings for her, it went from her being a smart maid to hmm I might like her. And I know other people are gonna defend that but Yuchan is also a smart maid and has been with him for more years but he didn't have feelings for her so some of us were expecting maybe a more definitive reason but that being said the show does a great job of making it a bit more natural. Like for instance the natural glances and especially when she got drunk, after watching so many cdrama's I was expecting that clichéd falling into his arms or something but it didn't happen. I was like yesssss, this is it, give us a more natural, realistic encounter. And she is oblivious to his feelings because it's like she said to Xiaolan, he probably won't like us, so in her head maybe because of what life has dealt her, like living as a slave, she thinks he won't ever look at her that way. But as we continue watching if he makes slightly obvious moves and she's still not getting it, then I'll agree with you. I also get annoyed with dramas that make certain characters extremely smart in dire situations but in simple ones they tend to not get it, it's like ughh stoppppppp.

I'm living for a drama with a grey character and fans and haters fighting in the comments lol. The drama is too…
I absolutely agree, grey characters make a drama more interesting and more realistic. I'm a sucker for historical dramas with Minglan being in my top 5. They don't make historical dramas like the one ones pre-2020. I am really getting tired of how idol dramas are always making the main leads be in the right while everyone else who even for one moment halted their ascension be deemed absolutely bad or have a bad ending or one that is not as good as the leads. And sometimes the producers/directors to achieve their motive will make those characters do things that are out of character like making a smart villan suddenly become dumb so that the leads can win. It's like ughh stoppppppp. I also have Joy of Life in my top 5 and one of the main reasons for that is because it's full of grey and intelligent characters. I wish writers/drama makers could understand that it doesn't always have to be the main leads who are smarter than everyone else. They can still get ahead in their character development, but that doesn't mean every other character should be black or white to accomplish that.

Our ML dealt with the situation in a satisfactory manner. He got the divorce letter he wanted but didn't escalate the matter in a manner that would ruin her reputation as we know how scary that can be. If you have watched the double you know what I mean. And that Qian guy. Oh I saw this coming the moment I saw the scene of them in bed and he questioned why she gave her maid Qingxiang 600 taels. I was oh no he is trouble. Our ex-young madame is definitely cruel to others but you have to admit she treats those she cares about well as evidenced by her maid and her so called "man". I'm afraid her family will throw her out from what I have seen from the trailer where she asks the FL when will women be able to do the things that men can do.

Through her acting, she was able to make the audience sympathize with her character in The Double as well.
Yes you are right. She absolutely nailed that role.

Ah man I think I felt it from the moment I saw him question why 600 tales went to her maid and the fact that she is allowing him to be in charge of their money. I was like this is gonna end badly. I also questioned, is he with her cause he loves her or is he taking advantage of her? She seems to have a tendency to protect those whom she loves, I'm referring to her maid. The way she begged and stood up for for her took me for a surprise cause I was used to seeing her treat maids badly so it seems she is sincere to those she cares about and so I'm also gonna feel sorry for her if she gets betrayed.

He is getting no sex or children and if he wants a divorce he needs a very convincing reason that would make even…
Have you ever watched Blossoms in Adversity? Cause the same thing befalls the FL's family, however, in their case, the men are exiled. The FL is also betrothed and one day the matriarch of betrothed family came to cancel the marriage but when she saw what kind of circumstances they were in, she realized maybe if I do this now, that would be like putting salt on someone's wound. Even if she cancelled the marriage there would be nothing wrong but it's a question of character. She felt for them and the FL's grandmother also told her later on that, I will always remember your kindness and how you treated us when you came that day. And when their family also fell upon the wrath of the Emperor, the FL helped them. In this case, I remember the ML asked his grandfather that should we "TIP" them, he never said, make plans for them, just to tip and the grandfather looked at him with an expression that said from now on we don't know those people. I mean, for them to set a betrothal for their grandkids they must have been good friends but he wouldn't even tip the FL's grandpa.

You're right it doesn't make you a bad person but how you go about doing it does. I'm still judging grandpa Lin. I know it wasn't his fault that both families fell into this situation. It could have been plotted by Zhao family as someone said that, it's a possibility. But I'm still judging grandpa for how he dealt with the situation, he was so cold to Shen family knowing what would befall them. He never put them in that situation but how he dealt with it says a lot about his character. So if the ML also deals with this situation in a cold manner, I'm judging him because for him, this wasn't betrayal, he knew from the beginning she never loved him. If it was betrayal then I would be saying something else.

I see your point but I think this is a question of character. Our young madame has bad character as she is cruel to others but that doesn't mean our ML should be the same. I feel like, if he is gonna be portrayed as this intelligent and accomplished ML then he should have plenty of ways. I personally would question is character if this is his move. Maybe bring her family to their knees and let the ultimatum be a divorce? She is doing all this fraudulent activity so that she can save money and elope cause she knows both families will not agree to a divorce. Think about when he showed his mom proof that she was a loan shark, the mother was angry yes, but her solution was let's keep this under wraps. So I think it's hard for both of them. Maybe he should have waited for her to elope? Like idk. I feel like it's a low move from someone who is gonna be portrayed as smart.

She cannot ask for a divorce. Think about how sudden this marriage came. Our ML was betrothed to our FL for many years then all of a sudden she is told by her family she has to marry him with immediate effect as it was a way to secure the Lin family's survival. Who knows what deals both grandfather's had, and they just pushed their grandchildren into it. She says to her maid Qingxiang, when she loses the Diamond Sutra that, if kneeling and begging could fix things I wouldn't be here. Meaning she wouldn't be married to the ML. So, her plan is to gather as much money as possible, even through theft and illicit loaning so that she can elope with her beloved.

I get you. When you see a woman with that amount of prowess and ambition, you think it's for bigger things. And it seems so unlike her as she comes across as extremely intelligent. We were told in the previous episode that her family doesn't allow women to read and her mother is illiterate so you would think she is the dark horse of the family and that this marriage squandered her ambitions that's why she's so angry and always planning a way out for herself. But I can understand it, sometimes love makes people have courage to do things that they wouldn't have. Maybe it's the fact that she wasn't given a chance to choose for herself that makes her so mad and bold.
