Oh for sure, you see those parallels and juxtaposition throughout the show tbh. It’s really well written that…
Absolutely. Someone just mentioned that it was the Lin family that kicked out the original Lanxiang and her parents because they were afraid she would infect them. If this is true then I need to understand how such a household is raising amazing children, because the kids thus far are amazing but the adults, jeez.
I think Lanxiang parents totally overreacted. It's not as if the marriage decree is to a 50 years old man with…
I also don't think they overrated. Remember the scene where XLX'S mother held her crying, it seemed to be the whole night. Like that situation broke XLX'S heart and as a mother, knowing your baby girl was rejected by this family, now they want her back, plus they are very superficial and the home is layered with hidden dangers. Her parents just want her to be safe and happy.
After watching today's episodes, you would think the emperor is some righteous man and his son, Prince Han is a fiend but if you actually compare what they did for the throne, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Actually, the emperor is worse, killing off honest officials. The juxtaposition in today's episodes in showing the family that truly deserved to be imprisoned is chilling. They literally tried to kill the heir to the throne while other clans like the Shen clan and Lu clan received the same treatment for offering advice. I know that the emperor did this to justify his reign as he would see the other officials as traitors or potential threats to sway the court but it truly is sad. He reminds me of the Lin family grandpa. Will do anything to keep up with appearances including betraying close friends or killing family members, e.g Xiuwan. I might add the stark contrast with the Shen women when they cried together and supported each other in that cell whereas the Duke's wife asks her daughter to stand out in the imperial music bureau. I called it, just because it was ancient times, and it thus called for ancient measures doesn't mean certain people were not morally incorrupt.
For the man who loves her, he gives her protection. For the man who respects her, he gives her the best option,…
Jinqi is a great guy no doubt about it but XLX is not less than him. She's beautiful, intelligent, kind and the list goes on. But the most important thing that Jinqi knows is that she has a mind of her own. She goes after what she desires and she doesn't like restrictions, he didn't either, look at the women his family chose for him? But he could only endure until he fixed it. So what we are saying is, give that ability to the girl you love, the freedom to choose for herself. Like someone said, thank God this leads to a happy ending but if this was real life, it could easily lead to lifelong resentment. And tbh, in this point in time in the story, I feel like XLX's priorities are elsewhere. She is not feeling anyone romantically including the sml.
I missed some parts of the 25th and 26th episodes. Can somebody tell me about the conversation between Master…
He inferred it even though she didn't say it explicitly. The moment he said, "Oh so that's what happened" he realized that she, like him, is the only survivor in her family.
The only person he wronged was Lan Xiang. Others were merely selfish. Hope she gives him the cold shoulder and…
Absolutely, you know tbh when Jinqi's mother fainted I laughed but when XLX's mother fainted I instantly remembered when XLX first entered their home and couldn't stomach their food and she brought the cakes from Jinqi's first marriage and all XLX did was cry in her arms.
I'm not a fan of Zhang Linge, but I'm a fan of the ml lead in this drama, and I'll tell you that it doesnt even…
I'm a fan of both actors and I think it's better than Pursuit of Jade, maybe I have watched too many idol historical dramas and I really appreciate something like this. It's not giving cliche if you get what I mean. It reminds me of the Story of Minglan.
I kept thinking about that the whole time especially after they revealed his daughter's age, 11. If the second…
Oh my goodness, thank God they didn't because jeez, so so wrong. My grandma was betrothed to an elderly man by her family and she ran away from home and met my grandpa who was around her age.
I absolutely agree, grey characters make a drama more interesting and more realistic. I'm a sucker for historical…
Sorry for the late response. For me, personally, it was good overall because I'm was very interested in the upbringing of Minglan and the ML showing up in the drama was when Minglan had reached the appropriate age of marriage so their interactions from there on lead to that, and then we get to see her in her role as a matriarch. But I enjoyed it overall for how it highlighted the lives of nobles and officials in their homes and thus went beyond the court and that while Minglan was the central character, I got to see the lives of multiple people in their homes.

I know it would be right to add Story of Yanxi Palace here but I didn't finish it including Song of Youth cause it was removed from YouTube. I also haven't watched Ruyi's Love in the palace. I gotta prepare myself emotionally for that. Also The Glory with Chen Duling, I have yet to watch it.
I never quite got into Nirvana in Fire. I keep trying to re watch it.
Next on my list to finish is: The Rise of the Phonexies, Princess Rebel, Royal Nirvana, and The Long River. I get lazy to watch them cause they are serious dramas and I need to focus and I would prefer to watch something light on some days. But definitely my kind of thing to watch.
Some light hearted dramas I liked: Romance on the farm, My heroic husband, Princess Royal, New Life Begins, Destined, Yummy Yummy Yummy, Youthful Glory, Pursuit of Jade, My Journey to You, Glory(2025) with Gulnezer and Neo, Journey to Love, Kill my sins, Perfect match and Follow your heart. And I'll add the Double and here. It's definitely not lighthearted but I'll add it here.
how do you all feel about Grandpa's decisions as the patriarch so far? KEEP IN MIND THE ERA AND SOCIETY THIS IS…
Terrible. I believe the Lin family under the patriarchy of our ML will thrive better morally because even though he understands what's at stake during those times he is always looking for a better way to remedy the situation, for example, with Xiuwan. He took the step to first apologize to the Marquis and remedy the situation whereas his grandfather was like oh well, you have to die then. Even in the beginning, he denied Fengtai the ability to inform the FL's family of what was coming. Grandfather seems like the kind of person in officialdom to stab you in the back as long as it protects him and his reputation or ensures his rise. The Shen family patriarch on the other hand, was a morally upstanding man and I believe that's why our FL turned out so well as she kept her family's teachings close to her. Thus showing that even though those ancient times were unforgiving, you still had agency to determine how you showed up and acted. The best example of this is the stark contrast between the 3 prominent women we have met thus far, Zhao Xingtang, Du Cuique and our FL. Fate has dealt these women very difficult cards, but the trajectory of their lives so different because of the choices they made in despite of what they faced and in despite of the ancient rules that restricted them. Thus showing that living in the ancient times is not always an excuse for not being a morally upstanding individual.
